We totaled my beloved 2004 Corolla CE a few weeks ago (hit an elk) so I'm on the hunt for a new Toyota. We're getting $9500 from our insurance, so I think I'm set on the 2009 Yaris 5 door hatchback. I want it loaded this time, as my Corolla didn't have power anything. Would it be cheaper/worth it to get aftermarket power windows/locks and cruise control? Or should I just get whatever package offers everything? I'm not handy so I'd have to pay someone else to install it anyway. I'm obviously trying to come out with the best deal possible, while still getting everything I want. Thanks for your help!

Personally, I'd avoid the headaches and get the dealer installed options. That way they're covered under the warranty. I wouldn't even know where to get that work done outside of the dealer anyway.

DO NOT pay the insane amounts for dealer OR aftermarket cruise control, the 09's have the cruise function built in, and only require the stalk switch to be installed, which is only like a 35 dollar part and can be done at home.
If you dont feel comfortable pulling your steering wheel, pay a shop the 30 minutes it would take them (if that) to take the wheel off, plug in the stalk switch for cruise, and put the wheel back on, thats it!
there are details scattered through this thread here.

Buy the dealer power options. I have not heard of any one offering a after market power mirrors for the Yaris. It may take a day for the dealer to get the Yaris you want with power options. The dealer told me that Toyota make only a few Yarises with power options. Toyota feels that people who buy an economy car want the lowest price possible. So Toyota dealers tend not to stock the Yaris with the power options. I guess only the largest Toyota dealer stock the Yaris with power options.

If you can find a car with the power equipment that you want in it, I would go factory all the way. Less hassle.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the tips! Looks like I might end up with a used hatchback at this point. I'm still excited!

be careful tho. you get in and load up a yaris with power this and that youll be in the corrolla price range again. not sayin you cant get it cheaper but its just something to keep in mind.

Ya, which is why I've decided to go used now. At this point, I just can't afford to finance anything.

If you have a car that gets less than 18 mpg that is less than 25 yrs old, you can get up to $4,500 towards a new car through the CARS program. If not, best of luck with the used car search!

I am currently carless! I drove a Corolla before, which I loved. I've found the perfect Yaris, from a cool lady, and it's almost mine!
