heya! I just got my 07 Yaris Liftback last Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Lovin it!

Grats Trilixia! Hope you enjoy your car as much as the rest of the enthusiasts!

Frikk'n awesome place Perth... Aussie-Aussie-Aussie..... OYE_OYE_OYE !
Been over that way a few times on business in the last year and I gotta say, I love the place. {Go Red Bull Air Race !!!} Remote... but great. That 4.5 hr flight is a real bitch.

Hey Ferret! Never been to Bris Vegas before.. but I can guess its rather tropical.. I hear you've been getting some sorta rain for a short while recently.. maybe the banana prices can come down soon :P

....Sigh...

Wot? Nothing wrong with the colour.. it's the best I reckon. White's for fleet mobiles, sky blue and green are not a go, and navy blue doesn't suit the car. Black is the 2nd best option, but Shadow makes the lines of the car more pronounced :)

Why not... I did. I had the dealer principle, wife, + kids in the back and I gotta say the ride was.... interesting. Seeing the look on the dealers face was priceless. Shit...did I get a mouthfull from the wife afterwoods though !

I went through my evaluation route near the dealership and was going about 60% when the dealer told me off. I thought I tried to talk to him at the same time, but I guess he noticed.

You get used to it very quickly. Even though my Yaris is still some pre-fab metal in a plant in Tokyo, I find it very easy to get in and drive my friends Yaris after coming from my XR6

The Yaris is very easy to get into. I'm still not used to the S15 although the Celica is much easier. It's just the height in relation to the ground when driving makes me feel like I'm driving an MPV of sorts. I think the guy on here with the Recaros has the right idea :)

Non that I've noticed.. Though I'll probably get the short shift kit pretty much first up.

Short shift kit also mostly means shorter actual stick. My gf is used to a higher placed gear knob and if i'm looking at a short shifter, it has to have the stick longer than OEM! A bit weird, but think of it as pre-paddle shift gear levers for rally cars :)

Had not noticed... I'll ring my friend and get her to check... (um on second thoughts...)

yea. Actually it's quite apparent when looking at the Yaris. But that's cost cutting for ya. If you're not sure what I mean, look at another car's inside rear fender, and you'll see a black plastic cover sitting above the tyres.

I agree. For what the car is and what segment/price it is aimed at, it is an absolute gem. Possibly only toppled by the new Mazda2, but the M2 will be at a premium for now.

Haven't seen specs/test driven the M2 yet but it does look nice!

EDIT: Typing and beer.. DO NOT MIX !
Darryl Summers and Dancing with the Stars will do that to you....

Heh. Haven't got time to watch that. Although, I'd rather watch So You Think You Can Dance more, as they can actually dance :P

My only gripe is that I could use a little more leg room, being 6'3

Since I just got my black '09 Yaris LB this past Friday and became a member of YW the same night, I suppose I still qualify for this thread post-hack.

SO...once again...here's a pic of my ride as it waited in the pickup bay at the dealership:

Hurray for Black Liftbacks, welcome to the dark side! Glad you didn't go for Yellow Jolt (a.k.a. Omelet Vomit!) The only thing that stinks about black is the fact that it shows dirt so quickly... a small price to pay IMHO.

So you have any plans for adding stuff, customizing, accesorizing, etc?

LOL! Omelet Vomit!
Yeah, I ordered a red one, but this was the 1st manual trans to hit the area w/ the options I wanted so I took it, and I'm glad I did!! As for the dirt showing, well...this is coming from having a white Cavalier for 6 years, and parking outside, so this'll be a welcome switch from what dirtied up that.

As far as accessories, I'm probably going to upgrade the headlights and tail lights eventually, but I'll have to adjust the budget to having car payments again before I start upgrading anything.

My guess would be cost?

The real question is why don't we have a ball bearing dipstick?

Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.

My Papa says to me polymer engineer they say hih heat poly-esther as good as steel with nickel for dimensional stability!

I've got about 185 miles on it so far, and I've added a chrome exhaust tip and some door guard strips. The aspect I love most is the auxillary jack for my Zune, it is cool to listen to my playlists or podcasts on the way to work!

You more than likely have the "audio prep package"--I think all of the cars going to the US have this. In other words, you have all the wiring & speakers you need for a radio--you just have to throw a radio in.

I am happily married, I have two wonderful young kids, I am in the National Guard, I work for DirecTV, and I like cars and video games. I have done a lot to my car: CAI, Megan Header, 3A Racing muffler, SunPro Super Tach II, NST SSK, NST Shifter Cable Bushings, Silver Star headlights, AG 2" Lowering Springs (DF240's), and some other stuff I can't remember at the moment. I am waiting for a nice day to take new pics, so it may be awhile. I am here to help others, and need help myself from time to time. Any Q's, just ask. Drive On!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum but not new to Yaris...been driving one for a few years now (I have the sedan). I saw that recently a Yaris (albeit a diesel, manual transmission one I think) achieved 80MPG in a mileage tournament of some kind. They probably had a great driver to thank for that, but it also confirms my suspicions that the Yaris is just about the best B-class car around.

Unfortunately, though, I don't know much about cars, which is why I'm here.

Hi there! I just registered the forum. Im 24 years old, from the netherlands and own since oktober 2008 a yaris tsport 2001 model. I bought it as a replacement for my Toyota Corolla AE86 Levin coupe '85. Im planning to restore the corolla this coming year. So for now i drive the yaris and i like it. Fun-factor is less than the corolla (no RWD), but well there are also a lot of good points. Its quite comfy, its also pretty fast and its economy! I think ill keep this car for a long time ;)

If you replace a few key parts on the Yaris, the fun factor can go WAY up. Start with the NST pulley kit, then do the CAI, followed b the header and muffler (get a straight pipe style one, maybe a madallion?) and then lower it, put some sticky tires and deacent rims o it, and see what you think. $2,000 tops if you do all the work yourself, and you will have a BLAST in this car. I love taunting real racer type cars into burning tires with a car that has less than 125 HP at the tires. Then when I do race thm, and they hear my engine over theirs (it's a loud car after that stock muffler and header come off) it really pisses them off. The highlight of my day usually. One guy even commented on my car once, saying it's LOUD, and he really likes it. He even asked me for advice, and I felt bad because I didn't quite know what to tell him. I didn't bore out or delete the resonators or cat's... and I didn't do anything too serious to the exhaust or intake. Just a CAI, header, and muffler. Just try some stuf and see what you think.

I love the 2009 alloys (I have the 2008 alloys). I'd keep them and just go with the drop. I did the Tanabe NF's and I am very pleased with the look and the ride.

Congrats on the new car. Excellent choice.:w00t:

Just about any other kind of wire adaptor, usb connectors, monitor extension wires, ps2 extention wires, and all kinds of female and male swap connectors and things that I think would help your shop. Welcome! It seems that there are really two main types of peeps here: the ones that like to mod the car, and the ones that are all about gas mileage (MPG/ Fuel Effeciency (FE)). You'll soon find out which one you are- if you haven't already done so.

Personally, I am about looks but am really trying for the best MPG...

Thanks for the welcomes, LtNoogie and natethegreat38.

Regarding mods, I had kind of observed that trend (hard to stop at just one), as you said like potato chips... I've heard people say the same about tattoos. I knew that I would be going that way with mods if I didn't get a car with the options that I have installed already (especially the alloys... I detest plastic wheel covers ). As it is, I will probably be happy with it... any mods that I do, if any, will most likely be small and few in number.

Regarding mileage/fuel economy, that is one of the factors that entered into getting this car (along with reliability, price, cost of ownership, etc.). I just didn't expect it to feel so solid, look so cool, or be so fun to drive! So I see already what you mean about the two types of posters here, but I will probably fall somewhere in between... I won't be modding it like crazy, but I also won't be turning the engine off at red lights to save gas.

It doesn't have to be either or. One of your first purchases should be a ScanGauge II trip computer so that you can monitor your instantaneous and average trip mileage. Watching your MPGs can temper how heavy you lay down that lead foot. Look at my mods. I still got 32 MPGs the last tank. It all depends on how hard you push it. Enjoy the forum, you'll get a whole lot out of it.

Yes, I was kind of kidding on that point... I know it doesn't have to be either or. I just meant that I won't be taking fuel economy to that extreme (that example I gave seems a little extreme to me, but to each their own). Maybe I will get that trip computer... our other car (and the car I had before this) has/had a built-in trip computer, which do give interesting information. Thanks again.

Hello All! I walked out to my brand new, not even a month old car and a little card was stuck under my windshield wiper. The car said, YarisWorld.com. Now I am here.

Seems like a pretty knowledgeable group of people lurking around this site.

I have a 2009 5door Carmine Red beauty.

Hello All,
My goodness, I have not been here for a while and have been unable to log in for also a while ...I cannot imagine what happened with Yaris World and there being a hacker? I can't find my Garage and would make a new one if I could remember how to make my Garage....I also had several posts from the past but they too are gone...Whatever happened I am so sorry because I love Yaris World and all the wonderful people and looking at their wonderful Yaris Cars as well as other cars they have posted...I bought a tail pipe cover that looks bigger than the car! LOL Instaled a hidden GPS, put some Yaris door stickers and the liftgates little rubber cover...and the car is so cute...

Hi, everyone!! Just got my Yaris on the 23rd, and I love it more and more every time I drive it! I got a 2009 2 door LB with power package and some other extras. I was going to go for the Blazing Blue but when I saw the Carmine Red and the way it shines so many different colors, I had to have it!

I have always loved hatchbacks in general, my first car was a bright red Chevy Aveo hatchback. I loved that car, had it for four years but it was totaled a few weeks back. :( It had a great little spoiler on it, haha. However, I have wanted a Yaris for a long time and decided to replace my Aveo with a Yaris. I love the sportier look of the Yaris, my Aveo was certainly cute (coined Jelly Bean by my friends and family), but the Yaris is definitely more attractive.

First on my list of things to do to the car is definitely window tint. I've always had it and I hate not having it for now. I at least have to get it done by May when it will be over 100 degrees here... I'd like to get some different rims because the stock ones are pretty sad.

And here are some pics of my baby! I want to name it but I honestly have no idea!!

Another newbie here. I bought my 2009 sedan w/ power package on December 3 and I love it! My first car was a 91 Honda Accord and the Yaris has been a real flashback - I didn't realize how much I missed having a little car. Most recently, I had a 2006 Chevy HHR that I totaled in November. I was fond of it, but I wanted a car that wasn't prone to rollovers!

I've been lurking here since before I purchased the car, so I'm excited to join in on the discussions!

Hello folks.. you may have seen some of my noob posts the past week. Well I've finally test driven a Yaris, and taken off work March 31st to go dealer hopping =) I feel safe to say I AM getting one, not just a "maybe."

This is my first car thats not a hand-me-down, and I am EXCITED. I hope to do mods, and actually care for it unlike my current car that I've never even washed in the 5 years I've driven it lol. I love forums, I'm *usually* not very talkative, more of a lurker, but I've been having many questions and am sure I will have more.. so I am looking forward to joining the community and maybe giving my own insight once I get my car :D

I'm 21 and live near Chicago, Illinois.

I hope to have a Black Sand Pearl 2door liftback automatic. The mods I'm looking into are tinted windows, tinted lights (still having trouble figuring out how legal this is), black hubcaps, the Clazzio seatcovers, maybe some painting on the interior, and maybe some light changing on the radio/console areas. Of course, I'm poor so I'll probably just drool over everyone's fancy cars ;)

Although I am obviously not a new member here, nor new to my '07 liftback, but I wanted to let everyone know we've added another yaris to the stable! It's a '09 Carmine Red metallic liftback, 5spd (I'm so excited about this!!), pretty much all the same options as the '07 we have except for the color, TPM, ABS, tranny & reclining rear seat. It's my girlfriends and she is learning to drive a stick for the first time. Her username is Astrogirl so if you see her on here make sure she feels welcome. She's excited to attend meets now as she has her own yaris.

hmm. i guess this is a bit overdue! a little about the owner, then i'll introduce the star of the show...

first off, my name's rob and i live in daytona beach, fl. it's a great place to visit, but it sucks living here. as much as it saddens me to say, i'm still in the process of making the transition from "just a student here" to "yup, i'm a local."

i'm in my last year of school, graduating soon with a degree in air traffic management. i'm kind of excited, but not quite ready to start paying back those loans! :eyebulge:

i've never been the happiest driver out there, as i've had more cars than there are years i've been driving.. all of which have been either hand-me-downs or loaners.

my first car was Evette, an '89 corsica that i bought from my grandma for $50 when she surrendered her license (was too old), in 2002 (the car met her death when she literally fell apart in the shop and as a result, didn't pass inspection).

my second was Stella, my '96 neon. my mom was gracious enough to let me take it off her hands for $400. she ran great. until she decided to slip on some gravel and wrap herself around a tree.

after a short hiatus, i got Nemus. He was my '96 ranger. he was the first vehicle i bought for more than a few hundred. my cousin let me have him for $2,000. i didn't even know how to drive stick shift at that point. i only bought the truck because it was cheap, and the color blue he was, was my favorite color. he met his fate almost a year later when, in new york, i hit some ice on the highway, spun a few times, and crashed in the median. after Nemus, came Percy.

Percy was a 1990 mazda b2200i. tiny little thing. he was free, but only a loaner. my uncle let me borrow him until i had enough money to get my own. then i graduated high school and got Martha.

Martha.... was a tank. she was my '96 concorde. she handled ANYTHING that came her way! deer? HA! no match for her (she was cross eyed after that one, though). being rear ended? psh - bent license plate. shopping carts would bounce off her, and she would eat ice for breakfast all winter. she was great. unfortunately, she had to be put down when, after getting an estimate and not having enough money to fix everything that was wrong with her at the shop, i had to sign a waiver saying i wouldn't sue the shop if anything went wrong because she was quickly becoming a death trap. in july of 2007, i parted her out and put the money toward the down payment of a new car - Thumper.

for the last year and a half or so, Thumper has been the light and joy of my life... in a non-creepy sorta way... zipping around other cars on the highway, parking in the "green parking only" spaces, sharing a parking spot with a smart car.... oh, the looks we get together! Thumper.... is my Yaris.

when i got him, he was just a stock car. the only factory added option was the convenience package, which is indeed convenient. we've had so many first experiences together. to name a few: first ticket together (not using a turn signal to change lanes), first wash/wax/detail, first car that i've taken apart to mod all by myself (i don't even change my own oil and i had my headlights in the oven??), and lastly, the first car that i've cared enough about to join a forum and read up on other proud Yaris owners and what they do with their own cars. this place is truly a wealth of information that i wouldn't have even imagined existed in the public realm! ten points to this site!

so with all of that being said, I am Rob, and this is my car; Thumper. nice to meet you all!

d=(^_^)=b

what's sad, is after Martha died and was long gone, I got a love note in the mail from her... it read:

Robert,

Our love began with a glance across a parking lot,
You possessed me in just a few days.
I remember long drives through the countryside,
And long weekend getaways.

But the years passed, and like upholstery in the hot sun,
Your love began to fade.
And now in a time when I need your care the most,
You hit the blinker and turn away.

And while our gas tank of love may be running on fumes,
I still have plenty of love to share.
So if you have a quart of tenderness left for me in your heart,
Take me back to Firestone Complete Auto Care.

Love,
Your 1996 Concorde LX

I've been lurking here a while, and registered because sometimes I see something I want to answer. I'm not really new to Yaris. I bought my daughter a 2001 Echo, which was a great little car. My wife wanted one just like it, but we waited too long and they quit making them. Got her a sporty black 2007 Yaris Sedan S, which I thought looked like an old fashioned Batmobile. (My daughter named it Bruce.) My wife loved it and it's a terrific little car. I was driving a nice Volvo 850 Turbo, bright red with sunroof, spoiler and mags, but it was getting long in the tooth and about to require a lot of expensive fixing up. Traded it and the Echo in and got two identical loaded Yaris Sedans, one in Slate Mica Gray for my wife, one in Barcelona Red for me, and gave the sporty little S (which is like new with very low mileage) to my daughter. So we're a three Yaris family. I've gone through my stages of building hot rods, racing around and such, and now I know that you really can't drive that way. I need a car that'll get me where I need to go reliably and economically, and haul what I need to carry and a few other people now and then. (I went for the sedan because it seemed more practical and safer hauling things like guitars and amps in the trunk than in a hatchback.) The Yaris serves these utilitarian purposes while not feeling like a utensil. It's a fun little car to drive, looks great, and I'm proud of it. My Dad would have loved it! He was a "hypermiler" before they thought of the name, going back to the Depression years when it meant the difference between being able to buy the gas to go somewhere or staying home and doing without. But he continued doing it as a hobby and used to get Yaris-like mileage figures in the 30s-40s MPG routinely in a 1964 Chevrolet BelAir with a six cylinder, three speed manual transmission with overdrive, using all of the advanced hypermiling techniques and some adjustments like maximally inflated tires and grossly overadvanced ignition timing. I wouldn't go to the extremes he did, but learned some of his techniques and don't do too badly on gas. His last car was a 1983 Chevrolet Chevette Diesel, which I believe was the highest mileage car he could buy then. I always thought it needed a set of pedals for auxiliary power. I drove it for several years after his death (I got it going after it had sat untended for around 6 years), and finally gave it to a man who had a high school shop class fix it up for his grandson. I don't think the Yaris can do as well on mileage as the Chevette Diesel, but it sure is a much nicer car!

Welcome.

We all know what the new car high feels like. That ordeal must have been just an incredible buzz kill. I think you may have to watch your terminology as I notice you refer to the car as a 4-door. Since your dealers have only had to deal with the 4 door hatch for a couple of months, they may tune in to 4 door and think sedan. The hatch is typically referred to as either 3dr or 5dr, leaving only the sedan as a 4dr model.

Anyways, happy motoring. I know you'll absolutely love it.

Oh yeah, I've totally encountered that before (dealers—"you mean 5-door"). I think it's just a personal quirk of mine—it's a trunk, not a door, lol. But I was so sure I was always really clear about hatchback, because I know there are different models. But, like I said, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He was just not very nice. :(

Plus, another dealer told us it was a common practice to practically bait-and-switch, if the car was already on the lot and the one you want is not. I guess I'll never know if it was on purpose or not, but it doesn't really matter. What made me the most angry was he just thought I was dumb, because he tried to tell me 4-door/5-door hatches weren't even out yet. ...

Moral of the story: get everything written down. Because I couldn't prove at all that I had said hatchback, and I had no concrete paperwork from him that we had been dealing with a sedan, lol. It was all a big fiasco, haha.

Thanks for the nice welcome!! :)

Hey everyone!

I just bought a 2009 Yaris 4-door HB in Carmine Red Metallic. It's arriving tomorrow! (See blog entry for entire purchasing story... :\)

Pictures soon, just wanted to say hey now. :)

Welcome! And sorry to hear about the problems, but what's important now is that you have a Yaris!:clap:

I bought my '09 Blazing Blue 3dr HB in November and have just started posting in the forums the last couple of weeks (after lurking in the background for a while). Already have a few mods and I get my American Racing Aero Chrome wheels installed Saturday!

Hi guys, great forum you have going on.
Just a question, (excuse my ignorance), but does a 2001 model yaris vvti have a timing belt or chain? I know the newer models have chains but for older models 2000 - 2002 is this true? Thanks in advance. :iono:
