Hey all, I have been quietly enjoying my little hatch. I finally found an official Metra 2007 Yaris dash kit. Crutchfield still does not have them. Where the guy on eBay got it I have no idea, but he had 2. I bought 1 of them. I photographed the install and posted them all on my Flickr. Feedback and comments welcome.
Head unit is the Sony CDX-GT500: http://www.xplodsony.com/xplod/headunits/CDX-GT500

I think it looks pretty good
imo it would be even better though if the under hu compartment came with a flip door..

Woot.. Glad you like. Yeah this is not my first install. I woild almost there was just nothing there instead of a little pocket. But meh, I will keep CD's packed full of MP3's in there.

nice couple things i would like to mention, you should have twisted the wires together, and soldered them, then used heat shrink tubing ( but your way works also)
I would have also, put the complete wiring harness into a wire loom , or large heat shrink tubing to tidy it up a bit...
nice bracket, i want one, i am using the echo kit...
nice job

Hey thanks for the advice. I need to practice my soldering. I am really bad at it, but I am a whiz with butt connectors (no puns please) LOL. I did buy some zip ties but I only ended up using 1. I found that using a bunch of them to keep it a nice bundle can also resrict it's movement and also put stress on the connectors. Also every single crimp got thuroughly tougged on to assure a good connection.
Check this link, it is a "Tiny URL" that links to the auction that I got the dash kit from. Maybe they can get some more.

I didn't like the pocket look either and ended up getting one of these:

I installed it on top of the radio because it wouldn't open fully beneath it.

Hey that looks like my old Jetta cupholders that came with the car, it was right under the radio.

if you put the cupholder above the radio... won't you risk spillage on your HU? i know you will make sure to have cupcovers.. but what the heck.

Nobody said I plan to actually use them. I just didn't like the look of the empty hole.

Heh. Nice use of the double DIN dash kit. If I did not plan ion using them I would have put them on the bottom anyway.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Actually having the head unit on the bottom makes it a tiny bit easier to reach while driving and the little ledge below makes a nice place to steady your hand while scanning for stations or whatever.
