Ok, I have a 99 4runner limited I have owned since 1998.
This thing is the shiznat and will always be the shiznat. But I travel a lot and get 19-21 mpg according to scangauge, and I only really need the 4runner when I am woods stomping, which is once a month....not daily...
So....econobox time. Was gonna get a FIT but the Honda dealers around me suck, and my local Toyota dealer is the bomb. Everyone loves him, and with the reliability of my 4runner, I decided to stick with Toyota.
Anyhow, Oct 5th my Yaris should arrive and it is:
5 door HB, auto, cold weather and power package. 15 inch steel wheels
I plan on adding myself: cruise control (hopefully the control-stick-only method)
and a center armrest, slapping Scangauge II on it, and my Garmin Nuvi.
I also plan on keeping this thing forever just like my 4runner.
---
I drove a Yaris last year as a dealer 19 buck-a-day rental when the 4runner was in the shop getting new brakes. It seemed perfectly fine to me, and I sorta like a mini-car that has a huge aftermarket following...not that I plan
on fancying it up, but it is nice to know there are a zillion mods already out there.
I will also be ripping the rear seats completely out and seeing if I can stuff my Surly Pugsley
in there w/o taking the wheels off. That will be a tetris puzzle I am sure.
anyhow, I will be posting real world scangauge numbers for my mpg results.

Sweet! I too got mine to replace a gas guzzler (but I didn't keep mine, 87 chevy astro), just wanted something economical that I wasn't going to mod as I had a turbo lebaron for that. But even before the lebaron met it's fiery demise I was modding my Yaris. Glad to have you aboard and the Scangauge II works great with this car.

dealer just called. the truck arrived and my Yaris has just been unloaded.
this is from the port, not a dealer-dealer swap. It is nice to have a local dealer who is the top 2 dealer in all the USA...so they get lots of new cars and never delear swaps...presidents award...all that stuff. in fact they have laptops for public use, a cafeteria, gym, free snacks, huge waiting area, 2 floors....it is like a toyota mini-mall...
Acton Toyota in Mass.
anyhow, it has arrived and I will go snag it Monday or Tuesday
2010 5door HB
cold weather package (big tank with low indicator, more heat...)
power package
15 inch steels (someday maybe I will bling it out)
and I am gonna do the 10 dollar cruise control

I now own this. It is freaking ferrari red and looks great. Took me a while to figure out
why it revs so high on the highway till I pushed the stick over to D.
now I have a 4runner for snow and woods, and a 2010 Yaris for everything else.
pics will come, I have to install scangauge and cruisecontrol and center armrest...
wow it is amazing....driving the car it seems huge, then you step out and say DAMN I
was driving this little thing ?

It's kinda like the old Sony Walkman. The cassette tape is bigger than the player, and yet it fits inside. :)

just wired, soldered, and tapped the $10 DIY cruise control mod and I can confirm that YES, it is simple to just tap into 2 existing wires and BAM ! you have your 'dealer installed' 500 dollar cruise control for 10 bucks in parts and 15 minutes labor in the vehicle.
damn it is nice to have drive by wire, and pre-wired cruise control... that anyone I mean anyone can
vampire tap into.

no I prob won't go to meets. The Yaris is a tool to me.
I race bicycles and those are the 'meets' I go to, in my 4runner, so I
have room for bikes inside and can sleep in it on a big airbed
and have a sunshower and everything.
