I am picking up a 2007 Yaris Sedan that I bought in a couple days. I read somewhere that the oil doesn't need to be changed as often as a regular car. Is this true?

Thanks,

Janel :burnrubber:

Welcome to YW.

The manual says every 5,000 miles. People tend to stick to this schedule until the end of their warranty period which is usually 36,000.

If you mean that it's up from every 3,000 miles, then yes, the oil changes have been extended.

I hope you enjoy your Yaris as much as everyone here.

Fumes.

Ok Thank you! Mine has 35,000 on it already so I will get one every 3000. :rolleyes:

Driving conditions have EVERYTHING to do with the oil drain interval. If you are doing most of your driving on the open highway and very little short trip type driving, then you might as well go with the 5000 mile interval, but if you are in town a lot and doing a lot of stop and go driving, a lot of idling, or if you hardly ever make trips long enough for your engine to really warm up good, then you should go with the 3000 mile interval.

What's a "regular" car? :iono::tongue:

That made me laugh.

the normal is every 3k or every 3 months. I normally do it every 3-4k or every 3-4 months, and you figure you spend $30-$50 x 4 = $120-$200 a year. IMO the older engine oil is the worse it is.

Please cosider Amsoil. I use Amsoil Dominator Racing oil and go 7-8k between changes. Amsoil for non racing aps can be used up to 15k even under severe conditions. For a lot of us that's just one change a year.
Check out Trulube.com for more info. I'm a dealer of Amsoil and use it in all my vehicles; F250, Honda Civic,and my Yaris. Plus 6 racing karts.
What ever you do, have fun with the Yaris!
