Quote on spring installation seems a little high

So I called my local Toyota dealer asking for an installation cost on a set of TRD lowering springs, and they quoted me with $591, which seems rather exorbitant to me, since that's more than 4 times what the springs cost. They did, however say that if I got struts as well it would be covered in that $591, but that's still way high for me. I called my other local Toyota dealership, but they got mad at me and told me they don't modify cars (but still offered to change my struts, but not the springs?) so I'm not dealing with them anymore :middlefinger: Do you guys think this is a fair price? Also how much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

yea getting your springs done by anyone that you dont know will cost you at least one limb.

I got quotes from 350-500 all of which are insane for like an hours work if they know what theyre doing.

I might have to ask around. Don't really know anyone who knows what they're doing though. They told me it was 6 hours worth of work, and I thought that was ridiculous.

Thing is, if I find someplace to do it cheap, I could make the dealership pricematch them, but I need to find a place. There are some tune shops I might try to ask, but I don't even know if they do suspension work (especially on something that isn't a Honda).

Most shops charge usually a hour per side for struts but in reality its maybe 35 minutes a side. The rear take even less since they are shocks. Id say a reasonable price to pay to a shop would be about 300. You can probally find someone on craigslist for half that.

Someone help him out , i did my own in 5 hrs taking my time
and photos as i went . the hardest part is the top nut if you dont own an impact gun :thumbsup:

After changing the rear springs first, I looked at the fronts and decided it was more than I could handle. I called a few places, then drove to a few (with the rear lowered and front at normal height, no less) and was turned down by all but a few.

I was quoted somewhere in the neighborhood of $300-500 from several different local shops, and that was only those who would even give me a quote. 75% of the places I called/visited said they don't even install springs, and the ones who do wanted crazy $$$ and said it was a 6 hour job.

A few places said they 'didn't have the right tools' and one guy was honest enough to tell me how he got whacked by an uncompressed spring once and wouldn't go near one again.

After all the hassle, I finally drove home in my uneven car and took another look at the fronts and, thanks to the DIY, ended up doing it myself and saving a boat load of $$$ and aggravation.

just do it yourself and you'll save tons of $$$ . the yaris suspension is not hard to change at all ....took me less than 2 hours to do the whole setup with an air compressor and simple tools ...

That's a smokin' deal.

I did my own in the driveway. Bought a top quality strut spring compressor on sale for ~$30.00 but had sufficient hand tools at home for the balance of the tasks. It took me several hours at a casual pace. Would certainly take much less time the second time around.

Found a place that would do springs struts and a sway bar for $300. That's a little (a lot) better.
