Let us know how you like it, my wife is due for a phone upgrade in August and that is the one she wants...
I have the HTC Hero and love it. I just wish the screen was a bit bigger as my eyes are starting to go bad due to age.
Cheers! M2
Oh good! I saw your post about getting the Hd2 and i was like "i hope she knows its windows". Glad you returned it; probably not for just windows issues?
I didn't like the fact that I have to go to "Task Manager" to close a program. Maybe there's another way to do but I gave up trying to figure out already.
I also like physical keyboards better.
I didn't like how the browser works on this thing. It can't even load Facebook properly. (I know there's an app for that, but yeah, load the website correctly!)
It also bugged me that you can't move the shortcut icons around. And that you have to delete an icon first then go to another menu to replace it with another icon.
You hated it? Oh, OK. No biggy, plenty more where they came from. Tons of super-phones coming out in the near future. (Ok, not a ton just a few but how many do we need )
I still like Nokia better because of the functional Bluetooth. I hate how every other smartphone just lets you use it to connect with a headset and nothing else. I might just get an N900 (http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/) (runs on Maemo)

GOOD CHOICE TOMATO......at least for your area; Sprint coverage is horrible in my house and families neighborhoods...least you have android still :-D
@Rain...yeah my wife (if you've read the rest of this thread) is the same way [at least about the keyboard and facebook] she LOVES the mTslide and it runs smooth on facebook. but yeah most everything now is in APP form. there are apps SOLELY FOR turning on or off the bluetooth or the speaker on the phone.
plus yeah a task killer is the most effective way of shutting down unwanted runnin apps; however if you can figure out how to turn the sync options on to sync only when you want it would keep most of them from running.

Will do. Your wife has good taste.
Actually, the size of the screen was a deciding factor for me too. You can zoom some of the apps but not all of them (that depends on the apps), and there isn't an option to increase the font size all across the board like you can do on a blackberry, so as a result, some things are really hard to see on a smaller screen.
If you already have Sprint then you know that where you get signal, it's very good. Also, I believe 4G is already lit up in TX, but you'll have to check which areas are getting it or not and when. Even if you don't get 4G, 3G on the EVO seems plenty fast to me. The device really flies, there is no lag whatsoever, even with multiple applications open. You already know how to use Sense, so you're ahead of me right there.
Give me a little bit of time, and I'll give you more feedback. I'll be back later and see if I can dig out the most useful reviews and videos on the EVO.
Right now, if you asked me if I would recommend the EVO to a friend, the answer is ** absolutely **

I just played with the droid evo, my cousin just got her's not too long ago, and wow am i impressed. The front camera is pretty damn good quality and the main camera is freaking sweet. The screen is huge and yet it fits perfectly in your hand like a phone should and in your pocket, and truthfully with sprints 4g network, it downloaded music pretty fast from MP3 Music Wizard app I got her.
But overall they did a test and the Motorola Droid is best when it comes to graphics and such, heres the report and video.....

I feel your pain.
Look at it this way, by the time you're eligible for upgrade, your (new) phone will be way ahead of your wife's EVO.
one thing about the EVO: the battery isn't great (depending how you use it).
I get 10-12 hours right now, which is perfectly acceptable to me, but I am light user, mostly use the internet (couple of hours a day on and off?) a couple of apps here and then, a few photos, and of course, email, twitter, coming through all day.
I haven't loaded any music on it yet, still use my iPod for now.
I don't much talk on the phone at all, maybe an hour or two a month. For people who talk on the phone a lot, this isn't the right phone, unless you have a way to olug it in sometime during the day. If you use hotspot or 4g, forget it, better bring a spare battery along, too.

I **truly ** loved the N1 (I think the N1 is one of the most underrated phones out there right now) but I'm warming up to the EVO a little more every day

Cell phone creators are just going to keep creating new and more new phones almost every 2-3 months with the android system, and eventually its going to over flood the market and it will be head on head android os vs iphone os.

I was thinking my next purchase of a cell phone would be an Android. But after reading this (http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/google_activates_android_kill_switch_zaps_useless_ apps.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+readwriteweb+(ReadWriteWeb)) I don't think I will.
I refuse to allow *any* manufacturer to dictate what can and cannot be installed on a device I purchase. Why do they feel so many consumers need to be protected from themselves (or in Apple's case protecting Apple's reputation)?
Say what you will about WinMo, but at least I have complete control over the device. It's a shame that WinMo 7 is going to be such a dumbed down OS (following the lead of Apple and Google) because I may just never buy another smart phone again if this trend continues.

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed by that, considering the application was not malicious and was just misrepresented in the App Market to increase the number of downloads.
Which I would agree is a no-no and removing it off of the App Market makes some sense, but reaching into people's handsets to take it away? That's a bit too far.
Seems sort of crazy for Google to do something like that when Apple has yet to do such a thing to any application. (This includes that tethering application that made it up briefly in 2008, users who bought/downloaded it still had the application, Apple just removed it from the app store permanently.)

A company "reaching" into my device without my consent and removing an application I've installed really pisses me off. Amazon did that with a book they sold to Kindle users, then decided they didn't have the copyright to. Messed some people up who were in the middle of book reports and such.
I also don't like companies installing software without permission. Sony put out a whole lot of CDs that installed a rootkit on computers that played them. I haven't bought a CD from Sony in years.

It may seem Google is snooping into private matters but clearly they are preventing third party developers from collecting sensitive data that may be used illegally.
I'd certainly prefer Google doing some appropriate policing rather than the Android market getting filled with suspicious activity that endangers the private material of its users.
Apple regulates their market far more. At least Android remains a free and open market. But freedom can't mean illegal activity. Otherwise we all lose freedom.

the original site that Altitude posted the link to , seems more pro Apple. There will always be a battle between Apple and Google and whoever comes up with a good product. Apple has it good sides but I cant stand their mentality of "we will decide for you". I'd buy an Apple PC yes because they are good for a lot of multimedia stuff, other Apple products nope because they are not the best. Google on the other hand is at least trying to be transparent and is showing they are trying. Sure there will be bumps and not everyone will be happy but at least most of their stuff is free both money-wise and ideologically
Yup. Interestingly, all the best apps by Google and on the Android market are FREE. Some of which are highly advanced expensive to develop apps like...
Google Maps and Navigation (I'd pay at least $200 for this app, seriously)
Google Earth
Google Sky Maps
Google Translate
Google Goggles
ect.....

:eek: don't do it!! :eyebulge::eyebulge:
VZW is getting the Droid X, and after that there will be more Droids!!
There is *nothing* wrong with the Moto Droid. The EVO is faster, bigger, yes, but also has some issues. Yesterday we got an OTA update that bricked some phones. http://www.androidcentral.com/hows-your-evo-4g-running-post-update
Mine wasn't as messed up as others, but some native widgets stopped working and had to be reinstalled. Annoying. (I guess there is a price to pay for wanting to be cutting edge  ) but OK, overall I still think it's a great phone but not one worth paying close to $700 ETF :eyebulge::eyebulge: (plus don't forget, Sprint will charge you a $35 activation fee, too)
Imagine the kind of computer you can get for that kind of money these days. (or even an Apple iPad which is quite the cool toy, despite its shortcomings)
Hang on!!

Sooooooo ... this is probably a good time for a little EVO feedback
EVO is working out OK. Still warming up to Sense's widgets and stuff (read, I still don't know how to use Sense ;). Sometimes, I just prefer to launch the applications myself, the old Vanilla Android way, rather than use Sense's widgets, to be honest.
My unit had a couple of little issues. I have the light leakage peeps mentioned in the geek forums (when you are in a dark environment, you can clearly see a bit of light come out from under the "home" and "back" keys) but I don't have the problem with the screen coming out.
I intend to put the EVO in a tough-case as soon as one becomes available on otterbox.com or case-mate.com anyway, so I think that'll keep the unit sealed and extra-protected and the light leakage will become a non-issue.
I've installed a bunch of conservative apps, a lot of Google stuff mostly, nothing to write home about, and a couple of games, paper toss,a version of pacman, labyrinth lite. I still have 100 MB worth of space. So far, I found what I needed in the free app market.
I put a ZAGG screen protector on the phone. http://www.zagg.com/ It looked a little funky for the first day or so, but now that it's cured, it looks great and there are fewer fingerprints on the screen now.
Small things I noticed and could do without:
Phone has a hard time deciding if it wants to turn on, at times. Once, I had to remove the battery from the unit and put it back, and then the phone was fine after that. Will have to watch that.
We got an OTA update yesterday, and the phone was buggy afterwards. Some native widgets refused to load properly, displayed error messages despite repeated reboots. I fixed it by deleting the widget and reinstalling it. This morning, another widget was acting up, again, deleted the widget and reinstalled it. Seems to have fixed it for now.
Other than that, no issue with the phone. Haven't yet experienced 4G speeds, but at times 3G seems to be plenty fast if you can believe that.
For the locals: I get good coverage with Sprint, in the East Bay, in San Francisco, OK on BART but no signal on MUNI underground. I believe the Sprint network is much more solid than T-Mo's and AT&T's right now (I know TMo is trying to catch up with HSPA+ so don't discount them entirely), otherwise, Sprint in SF is comparable to VZW in terms of network coverage.
Battery lasts me an entire day, generally, but I'm a light user (couple of hours of internet, emails pushed through all day, tweets / FB updates every couple of hours). I don't talk much on the phone.
I find that use the camera much more than I did the N1's (probably because it's easier to see the screen outside in day light). The only thing I don't like about the camera is that it gives a blue hue in the shade but you can probably change that in the settings if you have time to do it when you take the shot.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the phone. Well done, HTC!
PS. I have shown my phone to a few of the guys who work at the Apple store the other day, and they *really* like it. I think it's the screen size that makes everybody go "wow" or maybe they know a good thing when they see one ?

@ Vioz. I'm happy overall with the phone, but I STILL WOULDN'T PAY UPWARDS OF $650 ETF and various other fees to get it!!!
I was not on contract with anyone when I jumped ship, and I would *most definitely* have kept my N1 if I could have had signal during my commute :/ (which is when I use the phone the most). The N1 is pretty much the equivalent to the Moto Droid so I meant what I said earlier.

Yeah, as Tomato said, don't leave Verizon just to get the EVO. On July 15th, the Droid X will be released and it is almost the same phone as far as size/specs go. Plus, you may be able to upgrade from your Droid early thus saving you many hundreds of dollars. And Motorola build quality is arguably better.

That was one of the main reasons i liked it because of the front facing camera, and was kind of pissed when i found out the droid x didn't have one.
So im going to wait actually around december, they said the new Android 3.0 is coming out around mid-october and they are only available to phones with a minimum system requirement of 1ghz proccessor, and 512 mb ram or suttim like that, so basically evo's, droid 2.0, droid x is going to get the update, but that also means and a small rumor going around that the first 2.0 processor is going to come out around then and hopefully motorola or htc come out with a nice phone with a front facing camera and 2.0 processor and so much i can't wait til christmas

Yeah, i don't think I can root my phone. They had it rooted for a while in the beginning shortly after release, then Sprint and HTC issued an update that killed the process. I'm sure it's a matter of time before someone finds another hack/
what's BT?
Do you use the Pro version of Task Killer?

Verizon locks down BT and other sharing to 'safe guard' their customers.

Question.. is there a simpler way to close an application?
Aside from going to the applications manager which takes forever to load? Do I have to get an APP for that?
tomato

Backing out is enough only for some applications, but most of the time, you have to use the task killer as well. Some apps auto-launch which is annoying as hell.
Which ones auto launch? I didn't even notice that...
tomato
07-02-2010, 01:17 PM
I can't answer that, I don't know what apps you're running or what phone you have.
The best way to see what's running IMO is to download Task Killer (I have the free version) or wait until PK logs in and he'll tell you what he uses. PK really knows his way around an Android phone or ask the guys with Moto Droid's and similar phones. I'm just getting started w this technology

turn off your phone then turn it back on....open task manager/ or a task killer. those will be initial start up apps. most likely they will also be auto start apps.
I know for a fact, that voice dial, messaging, and alarm clock auto start, why? I don't know.
but if Pk could also explain the Gps better than I did. I just like not having to tell apps to restart everytime I want to use them because they need GPS.(either agree with me or explain the benefit of not having it turned on)
other than that everything Pk said about battery life extension is 100% on point. plus there are apps that will even do almost all of his reccomendations for you AT specified times of your choosing (like when you're asleep to turn off all wireless connectivity and screen brigtness to 25% until xx:xx am then turn it back on)

The one thing keeping me from the Evo besides the fact I'm on verizon, is I heard the battery life isnt all that great. But I been hearing the Droid X has had excellent reviews on its battery life (10+ hours with moderate use), has anyone else seen reviews like this? Battery life isnt the only factor in a phone for me, but a pretty big one. I looked at the original Droid in the store and fell in love with it, if I could afford the monthly data plan I would have gotten it, but now the Droid X has made this even more tempting.
There is an extended battery a company made on droidforums.net but thats for the moto droid only, and it kind of sticks out, they are in the process of making a slimmed version to fit like a regular battery
What is pretty cool is that i read up that if you have an issue with your android os on your phone you can give a call up or somehow contact support at android and they take over your phone for you and do all the work, kinda scary but easier since they don't have to walk u through it

The battery on the EVO usually lasts me 10 to 12 hours on average, sometimes longer, with light use throughout the day. Stuff that sucks the battery dry: camera, streaming audio or video, YouTube etc... continuously, anything that moves large chunks of data for extended periods of time, apps like Google maps, Google earth....
Some heavy users have 2 devices, one BB and something else. (The BB's battery is f'n awesome.)
Anyway the EVO's battery is not great but not a deal breaker IMO. I intend to buy an extra one, just like I used to when I has my old NIKON camera. A bit of a pain but no big deal.

not always Shroom, there is a bug with google maps it sometimes "forgets" to quit properly and GPS pings away like crazy. You will notice this when your phone starts to heat up. And don't forget if you select Allow Google to know your position the phone will periodically ping its location to update the google service. AutoKiller is a great app btw , you can set your memory thresholds as well as kill any process that slows your phone down or drains the batt. I would suggest to download system monitor this will show you which app and device is eating your battery
 thanks for the info!

+1 on the blackberry, Mine lasts at least 3 days before needing a recharge and I'm constantly using it. Well I'm glad to hear you can get a good amount out of the battery, that gives me hope if I decide to go with that.
tomato
07-04-2010, 10:48 PM
Yeah, that's about what I was getting with the BB, 3 1/2 days approx.
EVO battery lasts me all day and then some with light / moderate data use (emails pushed through all day, Twitter, FB updates, light internet use on and off all day, a few short phone calls, maybe a few pictures with the camera cause it's fun to use it's hard to keep away from it, and the GPS and live wall papers on) but the minute you start moving large chunks of data, streaming video or audio, watch TV, download a bunch of music, use WIFI, Google Navigation, or play games continuously for an extended period of time then the battery drains about twice as fast, phone will last about 1/2 day instead, so plan for that, have a charger handy at work, another in your car, and/or a spare battery.

Just got my Amzer silicon case in the mail yesterday.
Perfect fit, easy to put on and take off (maybe a little too easy to take off?) but great value for the money. Now I can put my phone down on its back without worrying about scratching the camera lense. Pfeww.
And the silicon is a bit rugged, makes for a better grip. Looks like it's been treated to repel lint. I like it.

tomato, any info you've found about japanese input on the Droid phones?
I did some research today and found a few, but most are unstable.
On some websites it says 2.1 version has IME for Chinese, Japanese characters...
Not sure if you've accessed it by any chance on your phone...?
I can get a new phone in less than one month, so it says on my Verizon billing page....so I am debating between Android and iPhone 4 now...
I've got accustomed to inputting japanese letters on the phone im using here, so i would love to keep going with it~

Kioshi, let me try on mine, there is an application called "MoreLocale" that lets you force the phone into different languages (if supported).
Some applications support Japanese (great, now i don't know how to put it back to English), but the stock keyboard remains in ABC.
mind you, if it is like Thai, for the phones that are officially sold here, they have a thai keyboard app bundled.
Trying to find a japanese keyboard app, but all I can find is Japanese girls... There's some programs that seem promising, but as the descriptions are in in japanese, I can't help much

PK: Congrats!! and enjoy the little Froyo perks ;) You should find your device functioning faster and more efficiently, among other little goodies.
However, please tell us if you notice anything different in the way Google is pushing email. For some reason I don't get my notifications the way I used to before (checked the settings already, they're the same), but now only my primary account receives notifications in a timely manner, not the second one which I have to manually refresh otherwise nothing comes through. That's a bit annoying.
Also, the Facebook app for Froyo appears to be on steroids, and has taken liberties I don't really approve of. Like it's imported my FB profile and photo into my main messaging system, which caused me to accidentally text a business associate with my facebook profile and picture attached to my contact info... Ooooops. Luckily it's a perfectly decent picture, but still... again, I checked the settings and I wasn't set to "sync" so I don't know why it's doing that.
Google has a tendency to aggregate everything (like when they first released Buzz) so watch out for these things.
Truthfully, I haven't had time to play with my phone as extensively as I want to, but I will report further bugs and stuff i you guys are interested.

you did if you are the type of person that just clicks away indiscriminately without reading (not that YOU Tomato are like that). People need to stop being lazy (not that you are again) and expect technology to do their work for them and be over reliant on the said technology. Just remember everyone garbage IN garbage OUT
I hear ya. Just remember, though, when they launched BUZZ, they connected everybody in your GMAIL address book by default one day you woke up, and realized you were following other people or they followed you by default, without your knowledge.
The problem is that your email account isn't your buddy list. People promptly started to complain (ex-spouse "seeing" new spouse's info, etc.) and Google changed the default settings after that, but I find it shocking that they wouldn't foresee something like that... oh well.
Yeah, you have to be careful - as much as possible.
PS. don't get me wrong, I still love Google, and most of the stuff they do  but they fcked up with BUZZ IMO.

Sense has some cool stuff but I might just revert back to straight android. I don't use most widgets anyway.

I don't know if I should post this in the bitch /rant section or in here, but here goes.
Ever since my FroYo update, my gmail accounts no longer sync to the EVO. Only the primary account syncs but that's it. The other one(s) has (have) to be refreshed manually which is kind of a pain.
I thought something was screwy with my unit so I called HTC to see if they have any suggestions. They initially asked me what I did to cause the problem (uh? gee thanks, guys!) checked the settings with me and found everything in order, then blamed 3rd party apps on the problems, and then eventually told me to reset the phone to factory default and call them back if the problem persists.
hmmm...
Reset to factory default is kind of a last resort thing I think, so I decided to poke around and see if anyone else is having the issues... sure enough, bam
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/08/evo-froyo-gmail-sync/
Grrrrr
At least now I know, it isn't sopmething I did (or didn't do) [sure blame the user, always blame the user ]
I blame Sense myself, rather than 3rd party apps, but OK . Grrrr...
Factory reset probably won't hurt but what a fn pain *sigh*

@kioshi I believe I have the answer you were looking for. Yes there is a place in the setting where you can have more than 1 KB available for texting and you can switch forth and back at will. As to what Asian language you can use exactly, I just don't know because I can make out the characters, but you could if you looked at them. So, head out to a store near you and go play with the demo unit. You'll find your answer. This is on HTC Sense with Froyo 2.2

for those who are still following ...
Received the Froyo update OTA from Sprint 2 weeks ago. For a while, there were problems, such as my gmail accounts weren't pushing mail properly / were not syncing (BTW sorry if I seemed to be logged in but did not respond to PM's, I really wasn't getting any msgs); also, unable to change screen passwords, other little things. Looked like we got a defective version of Froyo or something.
Peeps in Android forums and on Google board reported the exact same problem so although HTC told me to wipe my handset clean, I decided to sit tight and wait based on a Google's employee's post in response to our reporting the problem (saying they were gonna push a "fix" but it was up to the carriers to send it through). Sure enough, a few days later, things are back to normal, only with Froyo, your device is indeed a little faster. Can't tell if it saves much battery, however.
Now if only Sprint hadn't disabled the free tethering option
At the moment, there is no way to root the EVO on Froyo (that I know of) so I'm still stock, running pretty generic apps and pretty happy with both the device and the network coverage with Sprint. Still no 4G lit up in my area yet, but that's OK, 3G is plenty fast for basic tasks.

hmmm so far mixed feelings... It's rather light, and I quite like the heft of the Milestone/Droid in comparison. and I do miss the physical keyboard.
But on the other hand, it's real fast and responsive (I'm using LauncherPro instead of the pretty-but-clunky stock Samsung home screen).
But the screen is the biggest love/hate. It's bigger, yes, the colors are amazingly vibrant, but it's just nowhere as sharp as the plain old LCD on the motorola...
oh well, I will play around with it for a few days, turns out 3G's a no-go as well :iono:

@ Thomas
1. KB : you will get used to it. I'm a bad example because I'm so slow when I txt but I can guarantee you that after a while, you don't miss the physical KB at all
2. Not having 3G is a little more annoying and would give me pause
3. Amoled is better indoors but not outside in the sun. I can see the EVO out in the sun much better than the N1 (in fact that was a consideration when I went to the EVO)
One more thing you might consider. Reviewers out here say that historically the Samsungs's skins are not as easy to upgrade so slower to get newer OS's (I can't find the link now and that may not apply to your carriers over there)
Myself, I find the Samsung Epic extremely attractive
http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/samsung-epic-4g-review/
but now that I'm locked into a contract, whatever phone coming out is going to have to be a HUGE improvement over mine to make me want to trade.
Believe it or not, on occasion I still miss the N1 for some things (the KB size was ***IDEAL*** for one, I find it hard to type on the EVO b/c of screen size.. Plus, you could operate the N1 w/ one hand, not so with the EVO due to its size) of course, the N1 had straight FroYo, no carrier bloatware and/or blocks on it, plus a sim card so easy to swap, free tether ...
I guess what I'm trying to say is that your new phone may offer some new features that your Moto Droid doesn't have but if it's not a huge leap forward, I'd save my money and wait for something better if I were you. You know it's only a matter of months until something even better than the Samsung, EVO, etc. comes out and your milestone is still an excellent phone in many ways :iono:

Yes, it does that. You have to dig deep in the settings to turn that feature off. Try to go to settings applications and unsync everything there. There are 2 or 3 layers you have to go through before you can unsync it completely.

I was almost done w/ my contract w/ verizon. And the plan was to switch to Sprint because of the HTC EVO. I played around w/ all three phones (EVO, Moto Droid X, and Incredible).
In my opinion, Moto droid X is a very thin phone but extremely big in Length and Width...it does not look like a phone to me.
EVO, a wee bit too big of a screen for me and a little heavy in my jeans
Incredible has a reasonable screen size and lightweight. Although no video chat due to missing front camera (1.3mp) :frown:

@kioshi:
1) cases: HTC Depot is good, has a lot of stuff. I never ordered from them but the site was recommended by one of the tech guys at HTC and in one of the Android forums.
http://www.htcdepot.com/
2) I like case mate myself. I ordered a rubber case that looked exactly like a piece of tire for my N1 and really, really loved it.
http://artoftheiphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Case-Mate-Vroom-iPhone-Case-for-3G-and-3GS.jpg
It was great quality and it looked really cool! They don't have much for the Incredible or Evo just yet but keep your eyes on them anyway, because they do make great stuff, stand behind their products, highly recommend them.
http://www.case-mate.com/HTC-Cases/HTC-Cases.asp
3) the best, sturdiest case out there : otterbox.
http://www.otterbox.com/htc-cases/
however they are still designing the case. I put my name down on the wait list so when something becomes available they will let me know by email. Probably well worth waiting for.
In the meantime, you could get an Amzer case. http://www.amzer.com/
I got a inexpensive one made of some kind of rubber, a little stronger than the silicone one and doesn't pick up any lint. It's not perfect but it does the job for now. without a case, the EVO rests on the camera lense so I had to get something right away.
one thing I did do right away, however, is to protect the screen with a ZAGG shield. I got mine at Radio Shack, same day I got the phone. It was pretty easy to install and well worth it if you're gonna put the phone in your pocket.
http://www.zagg.com/
It's all a matter of preference. Do you want sturdy, is it OK if its bulky? do you want something transparent / clear, do you want just a skin?
good luck with your decision. Hope the links above help some.

Well, here is the thing. I don't use the HTC Facebook app that came preloaded with the phone. I use another FB app that I got on the market. The day after FroYo, everything got exported over, just the same and my settings got overwritten :iono:
There some noise over that on the Google board as well, but I was so miserable without my push email that I completely neglected the FB issue. I'm not entirely sure what's doing it, whether it's HTC Sense, whether it's FB for Froyo, or whether it's Froyo itself. One more thing to figure out ;)
I got the EVO because you could turn Sense off without rooting (not so on the Incredible) but that was b/f Froyo.

I felt this post needs more than a "quote"
GET AN INVISIBLE SHIELD .... IF you're not hot blooded.
According to my wife I'm hot blooded/hot skinned
I had a Zagg/invisible shield on my Sony W810i. over the few years I had it, the protector deformed and yellowed. I finally took it off (the Shields are one time use) granted they have a lifetime warranty, but pulling the shield off was the scariest thing I did; the adhesive used on it felt to me like the screen was going to separate.
just my .02
short of the short: I vouch for Tomato's choice of the invisible shield, just be prepared if you keep it in your pocket alot and you sweat/have hot skin. this can probably be said for any screen protector but hey the one that came with my MT3G feels sturdy and has not deteriorated in 9 mos. use...

Sorry, Kioshi, I don't know. Can't you download them and rename them? (always copy files first before messing with them) Worth a try...
Yeah, I"m annoyed with my phone too lately. They've blocked some of the settings I used to be able to access before.
Since you have HTC sense as well, let me ask you. When you type a sentence, do you get a period automatically inserted when you double space and is there a way to turn that off? It was an easy thing to do on the Nexus One but for the life of me, I can't find the damn setting on the EVO (and neither could the HTC guy). :iono:

when i insert the mini SD in my laptop...they are all (.dir) files. I can click them then i have to choose a image viewer program to see them. I can not relabel them or save as jpeg or anything. The files are pretty renderless....:cry:I had a few images from my trip on them as nice wallpapers....really hope someone can chime in on this and help me out~:frown:
No i actually don't on my phone. I downloaded Simeji and when i go under language and keyboard settings....there are options to mess around with ie: capitalize after period, auto correct suggestions, etc.
My keyboard layout is in Simeji style with a toggle switch, so my settings are altered a little now.
You should be able to fiddle around w/ the English keyboard under language and keyboard menu.

Last but not least..question~
What email app is everyone using? I may have overlooked this if it happened to tomato or anyone else on here...forgive me >_<
HTC Mail default app can't hold my 1000 emails that i have stored on hotmail.
It says not enough memory on phone even though i have memory...
I read through this forum - http://forum.androidcentral.com/droid-incredible/12215-htc-mail-memory-leak-bug-phone-storage-getting-low.html
And here - http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/71544-internal-phone-storage-unavailable.html
I started using K9 mail app....but it has serious problems receiving new emails...and skipped emails from 2009 and downloaded from 2008 to 2006 for me...LOL.
I am just going into web browser and checking hotmail that way for right now~

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... I believe this is what you call a necro bump hehehe :biggrin:
It's been about a year and I wonder how many more have switched to Android since we started the thread?
I still have my EVO 4G, and it's working out OK. Got the Gingerbread update a while back and didn't notice very much difference, except for some small cosmetic stuff.
Battery still sucks more than ever (probably lasts about 1/2 day, these days - but I use it more extensively than I did before) but overall the phone still performs pretty well. San Francisco has 4G but I rarely see it, except in some areas of the financial district. No biggy, since 3G has been pretty solid overall.
Looking back on it, I'm pretty happy with my decision.
How are you all doing with your phones?
Kioshi, do you still enjoy your Incredible?
Etimago? I know you dumped your Milestone a while back and replaced it?
PK? Still rocking that G1? hehe

@ tomato - My power button stopped working (i think it was that stupid CHineses piece of shit MIUI roms fault), but other than that...it rocks.
I had a replacement sent (unrooted my phone and made it under warranty ;)) and i still love it. Nothing out there that is worth upgrading till NFC phones come out.
Tomato - root your phone, i swear....my phone charges from 40% to 90% in 30 mins, wall charged. Battery held its charge for a good 12-18 hours of usage.
My battery is exhausted now i think, it drains 5-8% right when i open up the browser haha.
I use it to tether, sometimes overclock it, phone calls, gps, photos, Japanese kanji flashcard learning...

word of wisdom , stay away from any apps like Juice Defender
I disagree. I was skeptical at first, but it makes a HUGE difference. Sure, it just turns off things when they're not in use and I could manually do the same. But this way I don't have to think twice about it.
In my case it wasn't bloatware because I rooted and removed all that crap. It is just a power hungry phone (Samsung Captivate).
It doesn't help people who use the phone constantly, but my phone gets a lot of downtime so it means I only need to charge every few days as opposed to every 12 hours or less. Well worth it IMHO.

Congratulations on your purchase. I looked around and that EVO 4G is still a strong contender IMO. I played with the EVO 3G a bit and it is blazing fast, but I'm not a huge fan of the 3D picture thingy. Hurt my eyes!
There are faster phones out there, to be sure, but that EVO 4G is still a damn good phone.
However, I think at this point, I agree with the posters, I think we would get more out of the device if we root.
EVO just got Gingerbread over the air and it's nice enough (cosmetic differences mostly) but it's starting to get laggy, at times. Plus there are all these apps I don't need and can't get rid of, that are taking valuable space in the phone's internal memory.

Any battery saving app will diminish after you spend a week using that kernal on your phone.
He makes the BEST kernal. Best battery conserving, fastest charge times (bump charge especially).
And to those thinking about getting an HTC Evo 3D....BEWARE! HTC has something on it that logs everything you do (what app you use, when, location, etc) like big brother watching you.
BUT thanks to the xda developers, they have found out a way to remove this....so as long as you remove it, your free from the clutches of HTC monitoring your phone's activity.

Dont flash beta roms....they will be unstable. You wont be able to make calls and a whole other boat load of stuff.
Just flash CM7 and call it a day. Its stable enough to use everyday.
Or look at HTC custom roms that have been in development for a long time, those are the ones to go for.

Kioshi...mind telling us what it is that HTC supposedly put on the phones to monitor? In all honesty it is most likely no different than every single other manufacturer putting snooping software/apps/monitors on phones. it's just that apple, htc and samsung have come to light for it for reasons I don't know
You kind of read in the last few posts of this thread as jilted somewhat by something....
I'm far too tired to go through and quote everything I want to right now....So I'll say it all right here
XDA forums = best thing I stumbled upon.
PAVEL if you get the sensation---LEEDrOiD rom is what I'm using and loving....rooted,S-off, 2.3.4 with newest features...I would wait though for the XE model or w/e they call it...it will have the dual core processor clocked to its correct (1.5) speed instead of underclocked to 1.2 (I think its that or they're putting a different processor in it not sure) BUT IT WILL HAVE 4 gb of INTERNAL.....OMGWTFILETMYMCGRIDDLE....
@Tomato well we just signed into a contract today actually and she upgraded to the 4g mytouch slide...I have the Sensation and we both are soooo happy with the phones.
I did root the slide but had to put it back as CM7 rom wasn't available (stable) yet for it and the rom I d/l didn't have bluetooth finished (dev's walked away to pursue rom cooking in the mytouch 4g non-slide area)
and before anyone gets confused:
Tomato you have the original EVO4g, the new evo's are:
-Evo shift w/keyboard (4g as well)
-Evo 3d (4g as well)
saw you kept typing evo 3g and yes the original evo is 4g somewhat(lot of reading to find out what 4g, lte, hsdpa, hsupa and wimaxx are all doing but hey)....but it is 4g....
Oh, I also rooted my mytouch 3g to gingerbread 2.3.4 but the things processor is still so slow and it's going to be a back up but sheesh....qHD resolution on a screen that is the same size as the entire mt3g's body...lol

Sprint announced they were discontinuing most of the benefits I had under the Premier account, so I have no incentive to upgrade early. I saw the EVO 3G (when it came out, Sprint offered an early upgrade for $50 but I declined because the difference between the 3G and the 4G doesn't seem significant enough to warrant signing for another 2 years.
I'll just wait. I bet by the time I'm out of contract, there will be all kinds of offering on all other carriers (or whoever is left). That Droid Bionic (on VZW) is pretty awesome already. Can you even imagine what they're going to offer a year from now?!

First impressions are pretty good , except the CM keyboard is even worse than the HTC Sense Keyboard!, and the camera controls take a little getting used to (they're a bit smallish for my fingers, and harder to see the HTC Sense ones).
Other than that, the device feels faster, lighter, cleaner interface. And I can tether which is a huge plus for me. So far, no regrets ;)
Can anyone recommend a better KB?
And BTW, Kioshi is right about reading up a couple of times ahead of time!! yes, the process is relatively fast, but what takes a fair amount of time is trying to figure out what you're doing before hand, but it's a necessary step, even if you have a friend helping you, only so you understand what's going on.

@Astroman: check out Phonedog.com They have the most neutral advice and pretty much specialize on phone reviews. They also do "dog fights" (video comparisons between phones) and will tell you all you need to know, with a consumer-oriented slant. I used to follow Noah Kravitz's reviews on phonedog but now he's at Tech Buffalo. He's very neutral (does not write columns solely to advertise for phone companies!), and his advice is very sound.

Sorry Shroomster for not getting back to you about the past post.
Its log files from HTC knowing what apps you use, when you use them, how often you use them, etc...and it applies not only to apps, but when you turn on your phone and of that sort.
Right now, they have the CIQ dilemma going on, which is similar to the above. ALthough HTC has been keen on giving the source code for the kernals of their latest phones..
Astroman - the phone is locked at the moment. the display looks vibrant on there compared to the Rezound.
I personally am waiting for the Galaxy Nexus, or at least see how BIG that thing is compared to an HTC Rezound....

lol troll!
j/k...
in all fairness, iPhones are great for what they do, but suck for what they don't.
open source?
ease of sharing info/data with other non-apple products/i specific devices?
removable/user replaceable battery?
factory warranty/insurance?
long-term life of use/retrofitting 'outdated' products with new software?
(some of these things are debatable [I KNOW]) but seriously, the iHype is way too out of control, people shouldn't be selling their children (really) to get computers....

I could never go back to a tiny phone like the iPhone®. The small screen coupled with the awkward real estate space above the screen looks old fashioned.
And still no 4G? Seriously? Apple® is only 2 years behind.

all I hear from all my friends that are droid users is how bad the battery life is, and how they have lots of freezing problems. I laugh at how many of them call there phones "shitty". the whole 3g and 4g is very negligible, we saw very little difference from a Thunderbolt and my iphone4 in speed... and we were both using verizon

It will definitely be made available as a system update on many of todays top tier phones. The phone requirement may be that it's dual core, but I'm uncertain.
I have a Bionic which Motorola says will get 4.0 no sooner than 6 weeks after the Nexus arrives. The Razr will of course get it too. Can't wait!

I'm not gonna lie about this:
If you have ZERO knowledge about using a smart phone or a computer, then an iPhone is the best choice.
people who buy android phones usually know what they are getting into, and have some sort of idea about how they are going to set up the phone to work best for them.
an iPhone is just click this and click that and yay it works.....
an android gets customized to the individual. EVERYTHING has settings and those settings have settings. odds are if you're friends are complaining about battery, then they didn't spend the time getting to know the phone and just expected it to mold to their hand the instant it came out of the box.
iPhones are pretty much idiot proof in that if you can slide your finger, you can use this phone.
No offense to your friends whatsoever, as I've been on here long enough to get jists of the senior members like yourself and I figure you and your friends aren't 'dumb' phone users.

There is another reason why you might want an iPhone. If the camera part of the phone is important to you, then you might want to have a look at the iPhones, especially the newest one that just came out. These little iPhones take impressive photos in my modest opinion.
But as soon as the new Samsung Galaxy running on ICS (Google's latest) comes out, iPhones will have serious competition in that regard. They've done some huge improvements on shutter speed, etc.

@shroomster : settings about settings is right!!! especially true for people running Cyanogen. Cyanogen unleashes a whole other layer of settings you didn't know existed!! I'm still digging through them and trying to get familiar with them all!
For the main user just getting a new phone from a carrier, depending on which phone they get, the manufacturer's skin may or may not be user friendly. As I remember, there was a bit of a learning curve with Sense UI, but that is not always the case for all Android phones. So the only way to know is to go play with them and see if you like the interface. Only a few phones run vanilla android. Most others have a user interface, plus customizations from the carrier, on top of it.

I hate to disagree w/ you Black Yaris. But Android phones, once people learn how to utilize their full potential...they can be a serious threat to iphone users.
Mine runs circles around the iPhone 4, seriously. Compared just by simple tasks, not quadrant scores and its more fluid and quicker and responsive. Thanks to Cyanogen and an onslaught of memory/davlik freeing up mod/s.
Yes, I love the camera lens on the iPhone and the sleek design.
All in all, Android phones are like....modding a car. And iPhone, well, they are for people who just want a phone, kind of like how majority of the people that buy nice cars...really dont know how to drive them or keep them in running condition. Of course, there are the people that jailbreak their iphone, i commend those people

It's interesting reading about ICS and Cyanogen, where can I learn more on the how's and why's of applying these ROMs and the pros/cons of such? Thanks!
I just finally switched from being a faithful Android user of 2 years to an iPhone 4. I just couldn't take the battery life anymore. I'd tried countless ROM's, apps, techniques, etc. to no avail. I had a Droid Eris at first and switched to the Droid Incredible when they came out and couldn't get more than 4-5 hours of battery life out of either phone, even with an extended battery.
Do I miss the Android? Heck yes. But I do get a good 24 hours of battery life out of my new toy. :)

The GPS isn't working on your CM7 version? Try downloading and flashing an older version tomato. I am still running CM7 2.3.5 version because 2.3.7 version does not sync my past events on the calendar from 2010 to new 2.3.7 version. SO i gave up, and went back to older version.
You are lucky to see it in person. What pisses me off is that Verizon is an asshole company. Google Wallet will not be usable on the Galaxy Nexus for Verizon because Verizon wants to implement Issu? Their own version of it. <-- Stupid....oh well, hope CM9 makes it usable..I will not let Verizon keep track of my transactions  My main reason for getting a Galaxy Nexus was because of the NFC via Google Wallet mobile payments.
Google needs to punch Verizon in the face for this~
I use Simeji keyboard. Its a little better when typing english on it compared to stock Gingerbread keyboard on CM7. Although, ICS has international languages built into its single keyboard and converts when needed... :)
Kioshi what's your phone again? Im waiting on the fully stable release of Cyanogen Mod 9 which should be early January by what they are hinting. Worst case scenario I started to learn how to make ROMs myself so Ill just cook one up. As for the iOS vs Android, one is made for people who just want stuff to work and dont care about what's on their phone as long as it works....and who like to overspend...and Android is for people who actually like to know what's going on inside their phone and who are eager to learn new stuff. It is already bad that people rely so much on smartphones these days and companies like Apple are not helping the situation by dumbing down their products so. I remember back in like 2000 if something broke or wasn't working properly on your computer you would actually try and fix it yourself, format this, repartition that, set permissions, etc.. Now is:" Waaaaa my computer/phone/toilet doesn't work lets send it back to Apple and they'll just tell me to buy a new one". It is my opinion that instead of making us smarter, these things are actually making us dumber and lazier. I understand why companies do it though, to maximize their profits but in the end they are just contributing to the end of human civilization. As an example, I have a friend and she is a teacher at one of the local high schools and each time I see her she tells me how bad kids' writing has become, they write like they text and get angry when told it's incorrect. Anyways ICS is awesome and I really like that they finally bridged the gap between phone and tablet, no more Apple talk about fragmentation. Again I don't hate Apple just what they represent...an "elitist", I'm better than everyone else because I own an overpriced and shiny piece of same tech as everyone else.
Use indentation PK,
I have an HTC Incredible.
PK, try out the latest versions of ICS, its really good aside from the random reboot every 60 mins or so. They are daily drivers. No GPS, camera, and a few other things, but def can browse web, download from market, use gallery (on and off), and one more thing..which i forget.
I agree with your iOS vs Android comment.

Unless you are in a classroom/place where there is low signal, then yeah...it seems possible to kill the battery that quick.
At the end of the day, my phone has about 8% left right when i get to my car from train station. Using original battery that came w/ the phone, stock.
To you set min/max in CPU settings? I have my brightness a level up from the lowest setting when using the notification bar to set brightness (from left to right).

something else I can add, although it's too late for some (we will miss you Ryan lol)
on some androids like htc phones, you can change the radio software (the software that allows for communication/signal for data and voice).
::read:: baseband version in settings/about phone/more info
I changed mine ( sometimes it is actually changed with over the air updates on your phone, hence why they say back up your stuff on the phone)
the radio can help increase/decrease battery life as it determines where and which signal you get....
also other things to do include:
-keeping caches cleared out of apps
-turning off background data (usually only google apps need this running when you open them i.e. the market)
unless you have to constantly have your phone syncing you can tell it to manually let you sync data which believe me, works in the batteries favor or set it to mimimal auto sync rate
-if you know for a fact the area you will be in only gets a certain data speed, you can tell the phone (rooted or stock) to use only a certain speed (edge, 2g 3g, 4g, lte)
just find the setting on your phone that deals with connectivity and data
///otherwise the phone will constantly search for a better signal (only tell tale sign to you will be freefalling battery levels and data icon constantly changing.
-turn off your wifi (it will constantly be searching as in above post)
-you can also turn off g.p.s as it isn't necessary unless an app specifies it when you open it
-contrary to popular belief keeping the phone plugged in or charging on and off throughout the day is actually fine and won't cause the battery to develop a memory
you don't have to run the battery down unless you want too...
-I set my phone to auto brightness or minimal brightness
-I do not use any haptic feedback or vibration except for calls and messages
-task killers and or battery apps (essentially the same thing anymore) are up to you, there is no right answer for this, some apps are battery vampires, others close when you tell them to close
one app I can reccommend that pretty much covers all these bases for you is called "llama" it uses a-gps (tower to phone locations) and maps where you are and you tell it when and what you want to the phone to be doing (i.e you're at home and only want wifi turned on and vibration mode on the phone [or you're at work from x-o'clock to y-o'clock and need medium ringtone, 4g data and wifi tethering for your other devices and your navigation app opened])
@Shinare: To be completely honest I don't think sprint's plan will be offered anymore here soon...>>>LINK<<< (http://www.idownloadblog.com/2011/10/23/sprint-kills-unlimited-data-not-iphone/) & >>>LINK<<< (http://uk.reuters.com/article/2011/11/27/us-sprint-4g-idUKTRE7AO1O920111127)

I would think it does if you have it set to sync automatically, as background data is turned on or off in the sync settings screen.
I sync my mail when I check it, but it's a personal preference.
I am currently using on my htc sensation a rom called Energy by NRGz28.

Actually HTC is doing it right, instead of making a ton of new phones that have a market liefspan of merely 3 months, they will focus on a single series that is divded into tiers, from low end models with basic features and performance to high end beasts (The X model i believe is their top One variant with quad core and magnesium alloy chasis).I love HTC just on the build quality alone, I like the Samsung Galaxy SII also but its way too light and feels very cheap to the touch even though it is a very good phone. The only thing i regret about HTC is their departure from the removable batteries.
As for ICS , Im waiting for LeeDroid to come up with one, i dropped CyanogenMOD until they show more love to the Evo 3d
Really?I didn't know that!!! That's a damn shame!!! One of the major advantages of having an android phone is the removable battery!! Oh well :frown:
I had the Samsung Galaxy S in my hands a while back and it does feel a little plasticky and lightweight compared to my EVO4G but the screen is amazing and it really is a good phone. I was hoping they would at least start putting 21/42mbps radios in the new line.....
I was on LeeDrOiD on my sensation, I moved to NRG roms as they are much more stable (less gimmicky - my own opinion). Lee and Nrg both have ics roms (thought they did for the evo as its the same practically as the sensation.....camera/screen resolution etc differences....

I guess the non removable battery from HTC is new news to me...
The HTC Incredible/HTC Evo 4G i think, are the LAST greatest smartphones ever created. These things just want to keep going....like our Yaris. Lately I've been having my phone w/o the cover and dropped it twice now, flat on the ground...Insedio screen protector is super strong, but more so, the phone has been rocking everyday.
I'm due for an upgrade now, i wanted the Sony Nozomi/Xeperia S but thats an AT&T thing i guess...want that nice camera on there because nothing on the Verizon sales floor surprises me.
Currently I've gone through 2 different ICS roms and have found a sort of stable one by Protekk?
He has a zip file for fixing the panorama mode, video recording, and picture quality. Using quickpic to watch recorded videos, picture reviewing, etc WORKS Flawlessly.
Dont know what to upgrade to, honestly...Galaxy Nexus isn't a justifiable uprade~lol
I have been out of the phone look since i changed gears to getting some jdm stuff for the car.

Hmmm.. I still didn't see where it says the batteries are non-removable. o_O
I now have an unlocked Nexus S to play with. Haven't activated it, yet, just playing with it on WiFi only mode. Playing with ICS a bit and I like it a lot. In some ways, it's not as good as CM7, but in some ways better.
The Nexus S disappoints in at least one way: there is no LED notification lights!!! So if your phone is asleep and sitting on your desk, and you missed the sound notification, you could have messages and emails and not know about it for hours. That was a big disappointment, and a big design flaw, I think. But otherwise, the phone is pretty damn fast, it's a pleasure.
Still, I miss the feel of the older HTC phones (Hero, Nexus 1, EVO 4G .. all had a nice heft to it, and not so plasticky).

good so far, been a few weeks. we dont really mod our phones, most i've done is rooted my old phone so i cant really give ya any input in that area. battery life seems to be decent and recharges from low bat quickly. grandfathered in unlimited data plan for two of the lines with verizon, otherwise i hate them. we dont get 4g service at home, but work and school we get solid 4g. it also gets a lot better signal then my inc if they're right next to each other - not sure what thats about.

 Iphones rock! :headbang: Really depends on how your desktop applications are set up to sync via mobile (ie: itunes, outlook, utilities, etc) . Itunes - Media and Apps, Image Capture - Pictures and Video. Drag and Drop.
Android is swiss cheese when it comes to security (Enterprise customers prefer Apple over Android) and their applications doesn't look as clean nor simple. Whats the point of having a gigantic clock on your home screen when its already on the right corner...... (ie: sense UI):barf:
I owned a Droid X, yeah yeah roms builds modded you know the gist. Constant foruming for the next hot new roms. It was nice, though the UI was lacking that "oomph". I own an Ipad, Macbook Pro, Ipod and Iphone and all I can say is:
Macs rule and if you are a Mac hater, you need to at least try Apple products and give em a chance.

Otherwise, as a computer science major, I'ma have to stop you right there. Apple products blow. Way overpriced. The only good argument for owning a Mac is that you prefer the lack of viruses. The reason there's a lack of viruses is because no hacker is going to be using a pos to do their hacking, and if you know what you're doing, viruses on normal computers are no big deal. I'm no Microsoft fan, the only microsoft product I actually own being a Zune, but I'm just saying.

J_Lynn
04-18-2012, 11:29 PM
you mean the Galaxy Note? I did and I think its overkill. There is a sweet spot for screen sizes and 5.3 across is too big for a phone and too small for a tablet in my opinion. Ideal size for me at least is the 4.3in across you have enough reach to use it one handed and its big enough to display everything properly. And it is an Android JLynn (if we're talking about the same Note). Its fast and responsive just too big for my taste.
I meant like an HTC phone - I know it's a droid, just not an HTC droid.
The Mr. has the Samsung Infuse and he loves it - and I do, too. The screen size is perfect - it's only about 1/4" larger than mine ... but I wish mine was that big. But yeah, I think the Note may be toooo big. BUT, all the features it has makes me want one. That's what I was going to get when I decided on the Vivid - I just wasn't going to pay $299 even after my upgrade credit, when I got the Vivid for $.01 (refurb) lol

Here is an updated version from Verizon to New York Times...
http://dvice.com/archives/2012/05/verizon-were-ki.php
Quote =
Update: Verizon issued an email clarification on the matter to The New York Times:
- Customers will not be automatically moved to new shared data plans. If a 3G or 4G smartphone customer is on an unlimited plan now and they do not want to change their plan, they will not have to do so.
- When we introduce our new shared data plans, Unlimited Data will no longer be available to customers when purchasing handsets at discounted pricing.
- Customers who purchase phones at full retail price and are on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan.
- The same pricing and policies will be applied to all 3G and 4GLTE smartphones.
So, any way you look at it, after mid-summer....if you want a new phone down the road even being on 4G already, you will be booted off unlimited data plan.

Meh.... I happen to think it's fair. People who consume huge amounts of data (watching Netflix on their phones, etc., etc.,) shouldn't be expected to pay the same as the occasional user. And we do want carriers to keep up with network upgrades so they don't have the problem AT&T has had for years in SF and NY with people practically bringing the network to a crawl with their iPhones on unlimited data plans.
Don't get me wrong, I like free stuff as much as the next guy but it's simply not realistic. Everybody is doing it and Sprint too will have to follow suit. If they don't do it, then they won't be able to keep up with the network expansion and user experience will suffer. Either way, you're paying for it. :iono:
In the end, the best network /carrier is the one that works. Out here VZW is rock solid. Sprint has "issues". AT&T is a disaster. T-Mo is spotty. But they're all kind of OK outside of SF. Figures .

You're forgetting one major thing. ALL CARRIERS can throttle you. Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T have all throttled users in the past. Why can't they do it now for those exceeding 2-4gb per month CONSTANTLY? Its not hard~
It's not fair....big shots sitting in the seats in the company need their salary cut.
For the amount that Verizon users pay out of the rest of the carriers all these years, I think we've "earned" to keep the unlimited data and great coverage.
Verizon sneakingly likes to add fees on top of people's bills. And now the shared data plan is another scheme by them to get more money out of us.
Have you seen the crappy phones Verizon has in its lineup, compared to T-Mobile and AT&T? We never got the true Samsung Galaxy S II, a variant to HTC ONE S (Incredible 4g has a different chip and different camera, so it doesn't count).
I've seen my bill go up $2 at the start of this year, but it wasn't in the form of the previous outrage of Verizon charging $2? for not having your credit card attached to their site....that $2 is tucked away in the B.S. charges when you read the fine print.
So.....paying $500-700 for crappy phones on Verizon just to keep my unlimited data isn't justifiable.
T-Mobile seems the better choice, especially since you can swap SIM cards whereas with Verizon and Sprint, you have to abide by their stupid rules and charges even when using another network in a foreign country.

I'm sorry but the USA has the highest cell phone rates on the planet. Data is not limited, it is totally and 100% unlimited. Bandwidth is basically 100% unlimited. Just because AT@T let their network rot does not mean they had to. They chose to.
You can pick up a real phone in Europe, or better yet, Japan or China, that you can watch local broadcast tv and listen to radio on, get unlimited talk, text, data, and quite a few other things people here in the USA wouldn't dream about their phones doing, and they pay less than half of what we do.
My sister in London has the latest Iphone, unlimited everything and she only pays £40 a month. That is around $60 a month by today's rates. Try getting any phone company in the US to give you that deal and see what happens.
The USA gets totally screwed on internet and phone charges. We pay massively more than anyone else on the entire planet.
Please, don't pretend we are doing anyone a favor by allowing phone companies to bend us over a table at every single turn.

One correction, Japan doesn't have unlimited minutes as far as I remember. It is expensive to make a call in japan on cell phones...which is why people use sky mail (carrier attached email address)to text others majority of the time. They don't use SMS unless its an app like LINE app. And yes, they do have better phones always......they've got waterproof smart phones for crying out loud.

I wish you the best of luck sir!! :headbang:
I'm getting me a SIM card phone now...i may pay for more data usage ie: 5gb plan or more. I know COMCAST is expensive, but I'l have to rape their bandwidth over the coming years
I've been looking at unlocked Android phones on eBay from trusted sellers...they seem to be worth the $450-600 price tag lol.
I will dearly miss the Incredible...that phone has done so much for me...
