So after 6 months of research (Yeah... I'm a research whore) and test driving at LEAST 10 different cars (my favorite being the Jetta diesel) I had narrowed my search down to three:

1) Kia Rio/Forte
2) Hyundai Elantra
3) Toyota Yaris (wanted the 5 door, but didn't have enough interior room)

The thing I had to have: Manual Transmission

So after Kia couldn't FIND one (wankers) I went with the Elantra and Yaris and honestly it came down the color. I know. Lame.

I like the USB port in the Elantra, but I like the LOOK of the Yaris, and while teh cup holders in the Yaris ARE annoying unappealing, so is the ones in the Elantra (they're behind the elbow... so.. yeah)

BUT!

The Elantra has a 100K powertrain. I want that for my Yaris.

Can I purchase an extended? Does anyone know? I've looked for it on the Toyota website and have found nothing.

I want to have my game face on when I go into deal. So far they have me at $14,404 out the door, but I think since the 11's aren't coming out til spring I have some wiggle room. Maybe I can get them to toss in the extended. Or if not, Bluetooth for that $14,404... or the Ipod cable, which would be nice so I can CHARGE my Ipod while listening...

Most dealers have an extended warranty available to them. Not sure on pricing. The dealer I got mine from has a LIFETIME drive train warranty. And it in the price. Not added. Granted they dont want to dicker with the price much, but its an inexpensive car to begin with.

Don't waste your money on an extended warranty, it's a Toyota for God's sake!

All cars have issues. I have a Honda afterall. They're just as good as Toyota.

I rather pay for a warranty than have something go wrong down the road that wasn't foreseen. Just because they're known for not having issues doesn't mean they can't have them.

You have to choose, I have one (thanks to my wife). So far it has paid out around $2000 for repairs to the tranny (only 70k miles).

After working for several insurance companies, I can tell you that extended warranties of all kinds are cash cows. I wouldn't purchase one again, instead take the $900-$1600 that they are trying to get you to spend and put in a money market account and take it out if you need a repair. If not, then you get to keep the money and the earnings.

I've worked for insurance companies too, but I still say I rather be safe than sorry. I have a mac and well.. they're known for not having issues. Sure glad I have apple care.

My Honda (also not known for issues) blew an engine after the timing belt was replaced. Honda basically said "oops we can't tell if that's the reason" needed a new engine.

To me Paying $900-$1600 more to have it pay out $2000 is worth it. At least you recouped your money.

^ +1 ... I bought the extended warranty on mine, the dealer offered it to me for really cheap so I took it. It's nice to have when you don't have the ability to have a couple extra grand on hand for car repairs while making payments and all that.
