I have been looking at a 2007 yaris Hatch Back Im really interested in this car but i have a few questions...

how is the reliability of these things?

cost to own?

are the automatic trannys any good?

what is the actual fuel economy, city and hiway?

Lug pattern is 4x100 correct?

will a 13" wheel bolt up? i ask because i have a brand new set of winter snows but theyre 13's not 14's

here are the upgrades i was thinking of...
Cold air intake or k+N oem replacement,
Header back exhaust,
When it comes time to do the brakes drilled slotted rotors with a good set of pads,
Stainless braided brake lines,
Strut tower bars and under body bracing kit, lowering springs
LSD, posi, or locker

Opinions? Facts? Pros? Cons?

reliability is above average

cost to own is low....generally just oil and gas

auto is fine, but its slow

i have intake, header and a resonator-back exhaust and get about 7L/100km all-city (about 34mpg) with my 5spd and 205 wide tires

13" wheels will bolt up, but if you have 13" steelies from a civic, they likely won't work and they'll rub the caliper. you can run 13's but often need a wide wheel

intake and res-back exhaust (no header) netted me 106whp and 107wtq. i recommend those mods, but get the exhaust replaced from the back of the resonator as that is where it shrinks from 2" to 1.75". i felt MINIMAL top-end gains with an axle-back only.

i have drilled/slotted rotors and like the, but have agressive pads so they squeal. the car is very light so even oem brakes are pretty good, really.

i recommed at least lowering springs too, as itll cut the body roll and make the car look better.....i like the trd's, personally

2007 prone to ABS wheel speed sensor failures. Otherwise, no model years have any real issues.

Cost of ownership is low. Routine maintenance only.

Auto tranny is a beautiful piece of work.

Lug pattern is 4X100

13s will not bolt up without installing 5mm wheel spacers on the front to clear the calipers.

Actual fuel economy varies greatly depending on how you drive, cold weather conditions. If you baby it, the economy is great. As soon as you start to get aggressive in your habits, the little 1.5 starts to get quite thirsty.

Reliability is good.

Cost to own is relatively low I'd say. Since it's so cheap to begin with. No more maintenance than any other car really.

Don't know what you mean by is the auto tranny any good.. It goes from gear to gear automatically if that's what you mean.

Fuel economy depends largely on how you drive it which you probably already know. But for reference I drive it like I stole it and get 34 to 35mpg in the city. But people are known to get over 40mpg when driven like an adult.

Yeah that's the lug pattern and I would think as long as the 13" wheels are the same bolt pattern then they should fit right?

And I'm not sure why you'd need to upgrade the brakes in any way. Even with header back exhaust and CAI it's not going to feel much different. The very modest hp increase wouldn't warrant more stopping power. As far as bracing and springs though, word on the street is they make a very noticeable difference in terms of cornering. I just have lowering springs which really just seem to make for a much rougher ride although it looks SO much better.

But I'm far from an expert on any of this so don't go by my word alone. Overall it's a good reliable car that's got a bit of a cheap feel (interior) and a little lower in power than I'd like but at the end of the day it's a 15k car brand new. Can't beat that really.

hey how are these things in the snow with a decent set of snow tires on them?

Managed to get through an entire lake-effect snow covered winter in Fort Drum, NY last winter on (very new) stock all season tires! And believe me, while driving my Yaris throughout the winter I passed many a stranded, flipped, wrecked SUV, truck and car. I'd imagine that snow tires would have been even better, but I did ok on stock rubber!

They're little tanks in the snow.

its amazing what tires can do, i never ran "snow tires" before and when i discovered that they were $36 each for the geo i gotmyself a set of firestone winterforce tires, i drove straight up my friends driveway last snow storm we had blazing a trail for my other friend driving behind me in his 4wd truck he got stuck but just for a sec

even with an open diff its a monster in the snow, i was hoping these wer the same way

had a 99 metro with same tires, took the car some pretty terrible places. skinny tires + lots of ground clearance =win. parked my fiance's awd CRV during the big valentines day storm and got around in the metro.

now have the same tires on the yaris, does well but doesn't have that ground clearance!

OP, you have a PM.

i think it's a question of whether it's slower than the manual... not if it's incapable of ever going any faster. i don't doubt that you've beaten other cars but would you beat a manual tranny yaris with the same mods? that's the more important thing to consider i think. if performance is your top priority anyway.
