16 x 6.5 rubbing with 205/50/R16?

Can you tell me sure if these will rub? I have 16" x 6.5" ET45 rims with Tein lowering springs and I want to fit 205 50 R16 tyres, does anyone else have a lowered Yaris and wheels of a similar ET?

The tires a little tall, but it should work with no rubbing. I run 205/45/16 with 16x8.5 and 16x8 wheels. Im lowered on tein stechs and get no rub what so ever.

According to the online tyre calculator, the 205 50's are the closest match in diameter to my stock wheels, only 5mm smaller overall. I just want to make sure that they definitely don't rub, I think the offset is the thing to watch here, but I'm not sure if ET45 is good or it need to be higher/ lower?

here's mine on 16x6.5 miata wheels, offset is 38iirc and i was on 205-45-16's. lowered about 2" on megan coilovers

I am not rubbing at all with 16" Enkei RPF1's offset +43 and 205/50/16 Generals. Lowered via TRD springs and shocks. If I could have gotten the rims at +45 I would have gone that route.

i would only rub on severe dips in the road where the fender plastic would dip and rub the tire

I just realised that I have been pretty stupid thinking about these tyres:

the stock tyres are 205 45 R17 which have an overall diameter of 617mm

the 205 50 16 have an overall diameter of 611mm and an equal section width...so how could they NOT fit? they are smaller, if the stock wheels fit then there is no reason why the others wont. The offset difference is only -6mm, surely they will be okay?

If you have a 45 offset you should be in enough that they only rub on big bumps.

I was running 205/45/17s with a 42 offset and only rubbed on big bumps,when I changed tires I went to a 40 offset and only rub still on the same big bumps on my daily drive....our roads here were built by blind monkeys...pretty bad.

The lower the offset the further out the wheels sit out in the wheelwells and larger the offset the further in they sit.

You should be fine....and it should look great on how it sits....hope that helps.

^since the offset is only 6mm different between my stock wheels and my aftermarket wheels, I guess an extreme measure would be to take them to an engineering company and have 6mm milled out of the centre of the wheel, then they would fit perfectly and match the stock rims.

I'm only asking all of this because 205 tyres cost considerably less here than 195, about 20% cheaper I think...

nahhhh....you should be fine...Im on 42 offset and rarely rub in the front,backs never rub and I havea spacer back there too pushing out 10mm so they are 32 offset.

the rub on the front is where the bumper meets the fender on the liner it wears through in a day or two and you have hardly no rub at all ever then.

You should be fine.

:rolleyes: I just realised that because the new rims are 1/2 an inch narrower (6mm on each side) then the +6mm offset is completely negated by that, hence they are in exactly the same position as the stock wheels. So they will definitely not rub...that was hard work :biggrin:

We should compile a proper list of all offset and tyre combinations that people have and whether or not they rub, then others could check for reference when choosing rims and tyres.
