Hello all.

I just bought a 2009 Yaris sedan with all power options, 5spd manual with 43K miles. I got the dealership to come down to $9K on the car. A pretty fair deal today concidering gas prices these days. I can't wait to see what the White Polar Cub (the Yaris) is going to get for MPG.

Previous to this car I have been driving $1k junkers for my work car. The last one was a '95 Geo Metro, 1.3L. It was a great little car that was getting ~40mpg until the engine lost compression. I'm pretty sure it is burnt out exhaust valves, pretty common on the metros. I'm going to rebuild the head on it and sell it now that I have a Yaris.

This is a great forum. Very nice to see. Ton of great info. I was kind of bummed out that I was going to loose a great resource on the metro forum by switching vehicles, but this website is just as good as the metro forum.

Quick question, my car did not come with an owners manual and haven't taken the time to download all 36 pdf's yet. Is the 1.5L an interference engine in the Yaris, if so, how often do you change the timing belt or chain.

Thanks guys, looking forward to learning/researching more on the Yaris. I love the car so far. Pretty peppy car from what I was use to and nice to be driving a car that was manufactured in this decade.:burnrubber:

It will lkikely be yars before you even have to think about the timing chain. Re the belt (the serpentine belt)..just keep an eye on it an d if it really starts cracking -- replace it. How long the serpentine belt lasts = a wide range. some peoople have to replace them at 50-60k. Contraband replaced his at 180k, I replaced mine at 207 or 208k, and others have gone longer than I did before replacing the serpentine belt.
