yap. put some coins, then when you try to get them, they slide underneath... can't find where they fell.... i hate coins under the dashboard assembly.... now, how can i remove them, to avoid possible damage to shifter/electrical area?....

You just need to remove the center console to get them. Unscrew the shift knob, remove the screw from the cup holder and pop the center console up. It's like a piggy bank - You collect the coins in there until you really need them, then you take it apart.

Thanks alot! BTW, any pictures what screws to remove(step by step)? it's a auto trans... i just want to be really careful, it a new car, don't want to crack those brittle plastics....or plugs/trims. Are there DIY topic re: disassembly of these , so I would just like to refer to them? :iono:

Take a look at the "interior" section of the service manual

thank you for the references.
are these coins will fall just on top of the carpet under the center console or will slip right under the carpet( w/c will be more difficult to retreived)?

if you're unlucky they might slip under the carpet... but it's not too hard to peel away from the center console, if I recall there's a velcro strip holding both sides together up front, open that and just peel the carpet back...

There's coin slots in the driver's glove box in the HB's.

that should be it, just lift from the back and pull the whole thing over the shifter :)
YOu might also want to remove the piece in front of the handbrake with the AUX port (you should be able to unclip the cables from the back to remove it completely)

wow, i tried to remove the whole console, but it's harder than I think! i was not able to remove the clip of the cables for AUX & power lock.
tried to see the coins from the front side of the carpet..it's to complicated.
i'll will try it again next time....:frown:

You really don't have to remove the wiring clips. Just take the whole piece off and leave it there. Take it off by hooking a finger under the hand brake handle where it goes over the plastic flat area that the switches are mounted, and lift it straight up. Pop! it comes off, and you can turn and angle the whole plate assy to lift the console part out without disconnecting any of the associated switch wiring. Much faster/easier than mucking around with the wiring. Less chance for mis-wiring when reassembling. It will be easier to remove the plate when the hand brake is in a lifted/applied position. You can see the outline of the switch plate, and the part that sticks in the little "slot" just below the hand brake handle (when the e-brake is not applied) is where you will lift up. It will take you less time to remove it than reading this!

i really need to do this. I lost coins in there the 2nd day I had the car. now its 5 years later and they're still there! I have the arm rest, so i can't get to that oh-so-handy screw location. Guessing i'll have to remove that first... any pointers?

You need one of these. I use it to hold my garage door opener and change. It fits perfect in the center console all the way to the rear. Will post pic when I get the chance. I happen to notice this on the new TC's at the dealer. Got the part number from parts after some effort and then did a Google to find the cheapest source which I indicated in ( ).

I'd like the measurements on one of these for my sedan.

Or this

$23
If it will fit nice in the center console/armrest. Idk where I'd put the scion one, I'd bump it in the armrest, hate leaving dash cup-holders open, door sounds like a bad idea.
