i dont believe all versions have that front plate space on the bumper. i think maybe select states and countrys that might be a law. if im correct i dont believe mine has that and im in the state of florida.

Ask and ye shall...um, get.

Here, per request, are some interior shots of the little Yaris. Behold, it's hatchness!

It's no Audi A6, but this is still a very inviting interior--and I love spending time here. The seat bolstering is very firm, but not hard. You don't slide around in u-turns, you are planted in the bucket seat firmly.

The seats are firm, but still comfortable. Only Mercedes does this better, based on my limited seat-time in them.

The steering wheel is very chunky, and feels "just right" in your hands. There are very small, subtle "finger grab grooves" (?) for your fingers, and turn-in is outstanding in this class. The stalk controls/turn signals/lights/wipers have slight index finger indentations that just fit perfectly, and allow effortless leverage when you twist them (lights on left, wiper spray on right).

The gearbox is only 4-5 inches from the steering wheel base, so rapid shifts are there for the taking--if you want to do so.

Again, the "new" has started to wear off, but I am still very pleased. The Yaris is still a great place to spend a few hours driving, listening to MP3s (thumb-drive in the glovebox), and just enjoying yourself.

This thing is a huge improvement over the gen 2 car. I'm so happy I bought one!

its a 15% tint, its considering an "illegal" tint. i have that same percentage tint on all 3 of my cars. its dark but definetly nowhere near a limo tint.

Alloys are standard (local XS and XR - like mine - spec), but the leather I had done after market for around $600. Stitching matches the steering wheel and hand brake's.

Damn. That looks factory! I know you can order leather seats in Europe. Quick question: what factory made your Yaris? I know the EU makes them, as does Japan (of course), but is there a factory in South Africa? I know BMW builds cars down there...? Just curious how long the boatride was for your baby.

So true! Those alloys and that color give the '12 Yaris some pop! The leather seats, shift boot and steering wheel complete the circle of awesomeness.

Actually... it's only a 1.0. We only get the Yaris in 1.0 and 1.3 locally.
Oil is SAE 0W-20 - I hope this is the infor you want. Nothing written on the oil cap on the engine though.

He was born in France and landed in Durban, South Africa locally. Around 5500 miles, I guess. No idea how long it would take. Hope he didn't throw up on the boat :barf: . I probably would've. I am yet to get my sea legs.

Another 400 miles from Durban via truck to the dealership where I bought it.
I had to wait a week and a half after placing the order to get it. It was already in Durban when I placed the order though, plus it took three days to fit the leather, window tinting and to do the PDI.

Yeah, performance can best be described as almost adequate .

In all seriousness, for me it's not that bad, considering it has less than a 6th of the engine capacity of my weekend toy! It's fine for a daily commute in the city, where a sports car won't get you to work any quicker, just with a bigger fuel bill.

It will eventually live at my holiday home at the coast, where performance will be slightly better. I am used to renting sub 1.0 cars when away on holidays anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend the 1.0 as a (fast) getaway car... Not if you are trying to get away from anyone other than on foot, horse or scooter.
The trunk is rather on the cramped side for mafia purposes anyway. No offense to any "Dexters" out there who do use their Yaris for recreational (:smoking:) purposes though.

Anyway, enough of the thread hijack.

I think the stripped Yaris with wind-up windows, MP3 and CD player, 9 airbags, etc. is a fantastic value at $15-16k. Much above that for the stripper hatch, and it starts getting less of a "value". $17k is Nissan Altima money (after a bit of haggling with the dealer). Unfortunately, the American mindset is "bigger is always better"...Sigh.

Mine was AU$21k, equivalent to US$22550. Worth it for all the extras, imho.

I have no-doubt it was worth the money. Problem is, at least in the USA (where I live), it is very difficult to make a business case to Joe Sixpack who can get a Chevy Silverado (pickup truck) for just a bit more scratch (with cash on the hood: that is, manufacturer rebates).

I love the European idea of small, well-built, yet still well-equipped small cars. You can get a glass roof on the Yaris in the EU! I would love a glass roof!

Yes, it does.

There is a false floor that gives about 10-15cm of extra room above the real floor above the spare tire. I keep an umbrella, a multimeter, hi-vis vests and some tools in there so it doesn't look cluttered.

Ahhh lagoon blue very nice !!!

It's bizarrely called Bubblegum Metallic locally.
I've seen somewhere else on a website (UK maybe), it's called Deep Aqua. Same code (788) though.

I've only seen 2 others in that colour so far and one is still on the showroom floor.
That said, the gen 3's are still very scarce locally.
The gen 2 was very popular locally. You literally see at least one in almost every parking lot in the city! I'm hoping the gen 3 will be too.
I plan to keep mine for about 1 1/2 - 2 years and I'm hoping for a good resale price. That was one of the main reasons for getting it over the competition's offerings, which are good. The Rio beats it hands down for value for money locally. Kia still doesn't have a great reputation, and as a result resale, locally though. And man, does their pre-sales service suck.

Feels hefty, and expensive. :p

I did not find any "secret area" in the hatchback. I know the spare is under the fiberboard/carpet "floor", but I saw no 'secret compartment".

Anyone care to clue me in? Am I missing something?

 i also looked for that secret compartment in the glove box in my 2012 3 door and i found it, maybe tomorrow i'll check for that other secret storage area near the spare tire.

The "secret area" is the space directly above the recessed spare tire. You can store and hide items in there.

Yeah, it's also a neat place to put a notebook bag or umbrella.
My car's jack is located under the front passanger seat.

I think the cars with a full size spare does not have this feature/storage space.

Nice car!

I like the front and rear bumpers. It looks a lot more "aggressive" than mine.
Rear spoiler looks cool too. I wanted to retrofit one, but
a) it requires drilling into the car - not something I'm very comfortable with
b) it costs around US$600 locally! Then you still need to get it painted...

JayGee, thanks. the new models do have a more "aggressive" looking style to them. That was one of things that made me pick it. I was looking at Kia Rio, Nissan Versa and Yaris. The styling of the Yaris just appealed to me more.

I also like the older style Yaris now that I started paying attention to them on the road. Really nicely shaped and fitted little cars all the way back to the start.

Bought the tint at Lowes,it's cling on tint(no messy adhesive),and reuseable.
The box said Smoke,it's actually pretty dark without the sun.
Easy too apply,it came out decent,and it's a good quality,thick tint also

Hey, gotta enjoy those MPGs, man! Plus, I have driven fast cars before (MR2 Turbo, C4 Vette, Foxbody Mustang), and the Yaris is plenty fast for a fun drive through the twistys. They must have changed the suspension and shift feel from the last-gen cars, because this Yaris is much more fun to drive!

More fun to drive a slow car fast...than a fast car slow.

Hey guys, I just registered, I will get a few pics on my one month old baby, but no leather seats ( here in sweden it tends to be super cold, so it's no point having leather especially during winter, and I do not like to use the heater for my bum ) it's white, with alloy rims for winter season, and the black ones Toyota had to offer in the broschuer ( great typo I know but I'm not too picky ^^ ) which I will mount in a week or two so I will get a before and after , also gonna instal the wing which toyota had to offer later ( which I'm considering of tinting in carbon fiber to sorta break off the white balance, to match the black rims) also going to tint the windows ( unforntually here in sweden we are not allowed to even do Front with 5% so it's only rear.

Though of all the guys that showed interior pics only JayGee Had the massive display like I have. JayGee you happen to have the Active package on the car ( as far as I can tell they came out in four different versions , with style being the top of the range ) and you other guys without the display did you buy the comfort or did Toyota decide to give that massive display in few countries?

Don't know what you've heard, but weather probably isn't one of them , car is as of today 1 month old, and as it snows here quite a lot ( not this year though, enough for gravel to destroy a little bit of my beauties colour in the front bumper ) So yeah, owning a car here during winter sucks really, cracks in windshield , colour getting chipped off, but at least it gives us reasons to not slack on washing it, otherwise the salt and all the dirt gets to it, and we do need to keep our beauties clean and fresh now don't we ;)

sigh I bought a Yaris because the list of possible upgrade seems so little but now I am starting to find very nice things and I'm starting to think about asking for the possibility to install white 17" wheels

She's a 1.3 (99HP) 6speed in style version (the sportiest set up) + the comfort pack plus and the navigation system.
She's very young, about 1200 Miles
In fittings means:
- lots of abags
- traction control and other controls
- 16" alloy wheels (titanium coloured)
- 4 Disk Brake
- rear spoiler
- panoramic glass roof
- black rear windows
- sport shaped steering wheels in leather with multi control
- mixed leather and fabric (i use translator for this word) interior (seats and knobs) with lovely red seams (stitching)
- toyota touch and go (navi, usb, bluetooth etc)
- retro camera
- bi-zone automatic clima

I think that's all....... speaking about original stuff then I'm moving to install something to design my real car

Till now I've instelled LED bulb instead of standard bulbs everywhere but I want to increase the number of lights inside the little toy 'cause IMHO it's very dark in some side.

Hi there, this is Pete. I am introducing myself as well as my current ride,
I am an experienced Yaris Owner, which, according to P.J O'Rourke, means I already wrecked one. The car is pretty much stock besides a cheap aftermarket radio and good year all season tyres

Prior to the Yaris I was driving a citybug aka Toyota Yaris, which is even smaller - believe it or not.

no way in hell am I taking that out. rear seats, no electronic nannies, rear panels, spend way too much money on lightweight parts, ok absolutely.

but no way the a/c is coming out. One day a year of driving in 90 degree + weather is enough for me to keep it. If I lived in a place where the highest ever recorded temp was 60 or so Fahrenheit, then I'd think about it.

lol, don't talk about unesscessary weight of the 4oz of lights in the mirrors until you're willing to sack up and remove the a/c from your own cars

(for the record, my car came without factory a/c and it easily gets into the upper 90's in summer and into the 100's with humidity)

Sup my Yaris bros!

I am a newer member, and I did say I will post some pics of my Yaris Active, and here it is, everything came as standard ( except the black rims which I ordered from the brochure, so I chose 6 speed manual instead of automatic so I could mount these beauties when summer season is due, and the aluminum ones for winter ) ;)

Now I will go for an OEM style yaris, ordering the wing soon ( which I want to tint either black together with side mirrors or carbon fiber, did make a post of that but got so few replies I'd like some more opinions !!!! ) I will lower it as well, and you might have seen the post about the VITZ RS tail lights I have posted, in Thursday I will know if I have to rewire the connector or buy a different one, or simply not touch it and just order them :)

And I did fell in love with the body work of the RS vitz, so I will try and get my hands on one and import that as well if possible ^_^.

Forgot to mention I will tint the rear ( not allowed to tint the front :( in Sweden )

Also forgot the eye lids for the front lights >_>

But this is my white 2012 yaris :)

Enjoy

What is up with that plate niche being 5.5" tall and 15.5" wide? What are some good things to do with that beings that I don't need an official plate there and the standard American size is too narrow or too tall and European size is too big? http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii562/skimmerkevo/004.jpg

welcome from another florida member!!!! i love the color considering its the same color i have

It must be a Florida thing, although if the dealer had that awesome blue color 12yaris has, I may have taken that since it would match the seats.

Leaving the front bumper stock is a simple solution, but my personality will not allow it, it just seems unfinished....wanting. If I had the skills to cut out the back and pull it forward to match the front so it was all nice and uniform I would, but that's a difficult change to go back on.

A friend suggested getting a TRD sticker of appropriate size and sticking it onto a plate of brushed aluminum so it fit right in and would make the front flush and add a bit more contrast.

In the future I want to add some white light inside the grill to add some more 2nd kind of cool to the front. Intake, exhaust, sway bar, soundproofing and audio will also be addressed. Just need to get the funds. And the expertise, hopefully some of which will be learned from here.

Sorry, have to agree with barber...there are people here who have removed their A/C unit. I've felt the weight of the A/C unit and the blower unit doing a mod...and THAT is weight.

LED indicator lights on the mirrors is not unnecessary weight to affect your mpgs/auto-x results, etc..... Sure, it will have electrical problems later on, that i agree. Now...unless they were power folding mirrors like in Japan...then the motor could add some weight...but just LED indicators by themselves.

FYI, i have weighed a set with stock and with one....please provide proof lol.

I painted them, still thinking about doing something different

When we got our new Yaris...

Great to see so many different Yaris models around the world. Here are a couple of pics of my car, I've had this one 6 weeks now. The wheels are Toyota option 14" alloys, originally for early 2000's Yaris and Corollas, picked them up on Ebay for a good price and they fit the original tyres. I don't think they look too bad, anyway.

Just picked up my 3-door L in Blazing Blue yesterday. No frills other than automatic, so others can drive it. I have modest plans; rear swaybar, $10 cruise control, remote start, and maybe some tint and rims. My old 07 yaris sedan was totaled a couple weeks ago and this is it's replacement.

Added another shot with the 07 hubcaps painted black.

Here's my 2012 Yaris. I got the 1.3L MT 5 door Hatchback Yaris YR, it's the cheapest model here in Australia and it only cost me $15,800 brand new after wrestling the dealer for a good price.

I hope all these phone quality pictures don't scare you all.

However do pay attention to the differences the Australian Yaris offers compared to US Yaris.
Some that I noticed are:
Blinker lights on front fenders, no annoying headrest on the back seats, power windows, all the electric safety features and airbags (by law), hazard light button looks better than US (my opinion), Bluetooth connectivity?, headlights, rear lights, and maybe the color accents on the interiors. Correct me if im wrong because I don't live in where most of you live.

Whoop Whoop!! My Yaris finally arrived and I am chuffed to bits with it.

This is not the exact car, but looks identical to it.

Rockstar most of those things are standard in the US now in all cars, like the airbags and such, I think all 2012 have five star safety. The rear headrest are required. And my 12 has all the options too, maybe because its a fully loaded sport, but not sure....

Hmmm maybe it is because you have a sports model. But i've seen alot of the rear headrest as those big view-blocking ones instead of the more flatter ones i have.

Mine was AU$21k, equivalent to US$22550. Worth it for all the extras, imho.

Here in the Caribbean the 2011 yaris 1.3 sedan,8 air bags,alloy rims,mp3 usb deck,60/40 seats,rear soiler for 25k US.

Here's a coupe of photos of my Yaris, nicknamed "Yogo" ... all I've added so far are the wheels, some Yaris and VVTi badges, a side stripe, a set of window visors and a rear visor that's actually for the Yaris sedan. I'm managed to fit it and all's well so far, but I have to work out some alternative supports to make sure it stays in place, haven't worked that bit out yet!

Here a few pics of mine, not been on the forum for a while but I believe I was the first person to get a Third Gen Yaris when they first launched in the UK.

Mine is a Yaris 1.33 SR VVTI

A week before we picked it up, when we went down to pick our registration plate.

http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd159/greenfoci/P1040669.jpg

In this pic above I have added a Chrome Exhaust Finisher and TRD stickers.

I've also added a K&N panel filter in the year that myself and my wife have owned the Yaris we have covered 6500 miles, normally I change my cars on a yearly basis but I cannot see my changing anytime soon as it's one of the best cars I have driven in years.

This is my first post. This new Yaris has been sitting on the lot since November. Just bought it Saturday. It has the 5 speed and I've ordered the cruise kit from Scott. I'm selling a 2005 Prius that I've run the miles up on and like the Yaris so much better. I love shifting. Jim

Enjoying my new ride.

The MP3 player in this car is great. I put a 16GB thumb drive in the glove compartment USB slot and the random mode is actually pretty random.

It's also a welcome relief to cut my gas costs in half.

As for the dealer, when buying a car they're all the same. But getting a car serviced, stay away from Toyota of Poway.
