Hey guys,

Recently I've washed, clay bar'd (my entire car), and waxed (Tech Wax 2.0) my entire car by hand. It took a while.

I clay bar'd it because it's been a really long time since I've waxed my car (heck, even properly washed), and there were a lot of stuck-on's so it needed to be done.

My car is Silver, so luckily scratches and swirls are not very noticeable unless you're really looking for them, or looking at the car from close up, but I know they're there and I want to fix them.

I bought some Meguiars Ultimate Compound the other day from good ol Canadian Tire when it was on sale but haven't used it yet.

I'm just wondering about order of process here. Since I just waxed the car about 2 weeks ago (I actually put 2 coats on the entire car because I was hoping the wax would fix the swirlies but it it didnt) should I just wait a bit to use this compound?

Or should I just go ahead and do it. It's a micro-abrasive so I'm assuming it's going to kill my wax job anyway and I'll just have to redo it, yeah?

Has anyone used this stuff before?

going to get a random orbital polisher too the make the job easier...doing this stuff by hand is a real pain.

it's cutting product.

so you have to pass wax again

The Ultimate Compound may actually be too aggressive for what you are trying to do IMO and might even make it worse.
Meguiars recommends you use the least aggressive product first so as not to further damage or remove any paint/clear coat that is not needed. If I were you, I'd try their SwirlX product first and go on to Ultimate Compound from there if you aren't getting results.
& yes you'll have to reapply wax.

I've used the Ultimate Compound a lot, especially when buffing carbon fiber parts. I haven't found anything that works as well as this stuff.

Their site says SwirlX is for small areas though. I've got swirls all over the damn car.

What type of Orbital Polisher are you looking to get ?

I have this Porter Cable :Porter Cable 7424 XP Dual Action Orbital Polisher

http://www.autogeek.net/dual-action-polishers.html

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/autogeek_2205_43732744

You'll also need 3 Pads: http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-soft-buff-2-pads.html

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/autogeek_2205_1369241

You'll also need a hook and loop backing plate of your choice

Get yourself some Ultimate Polish first and use the Red Meguiars pad and see if that clears your scratches for you.

If that doesn't work you'll need to use the Ultimate Compound with the Red pad

Then the yellow Polishing pad with the Ultimate Polish

And then a wax of your choice with the black finishing pad.

It sounds confusing but it's a brief explanation.

I wasn't planning on spending that much on a polisher. I was thinking more along the lines of 50 bucks and thanks for the diagram that helps me a lot.

well just get one with about 3-5000 RPM or OPM depends on the manufacturer how they rate it. At least get the pads.
