I wanted ABS and Nautical Blue. That is my requirements. They found one two states away. I was sitting there signing the papers for buying that one and the manager over sales had to talk to me about them cutting me a check (long story there). He didn’t understand why I did not want a car on the lot. Anyways to make a long story short the Nautical Blue one two states away that they were going to have for me the next afternoon was 15400.00 and he offered me the Flint Mica S on his lot w/abs loaded was 17900 for the same price.
They are crazy I was thinking in my head! They had a sell and negotiated their selves down just to sell a car off their lot! I did act as if I would not settle on that car in their lot because it’s not the color I wanted and it was much more expensive. However I did let him know that I might would consider it if there was an offer there that I could not refuse.

Anyways I was going to buy retail but ended up getting one hell of a deal!

"upgraded" stereo
Weather package
Security/keyless entry
ABS
Airbags all around
VIN etch

...I think that's it.

35.5 mpg and I couldn't be happier about that! It's head and shoulders better than my old SRT-4 at 22 mpg and required premium.

2007 Pacific Blue base sedan. Its got some features but no power. Bought it in January brand new with just 'test miles'.. had 40 when we got it. We paid 15,187.90 and put 1000 so we financed 14,187.90 on the dot. They had 2 sedans on the entire lot at the time. Our Pacific Blue and a flint mica. She hated the Mica and hated the LB. So we paid probably 1000 more then we needed, b/c they didnt have any.

hi again everyone. it turns out that i cannot own a yaris after all. when i came down today at dublin toyota here in the bay area to sign the papers, the general sales manager said that he will not go through with his previous offer and would not sell me the car. he basically wanted me to pay msrp instead otherwise he wont sell me the car. this happened after i already had called my insurance and had the yaris' vin covered under my policy. talk about dirty tactics but oh well. that's how everything goes.

That's a really crappy way to do business.

I'd be asking to speak to the Dealer Principle (or whatever you guys call the big boss at a car dealership) and I'd be giving it to him. I'd be very surprised if they didn't honor their original proposal after a few minutes with the boss, and in the event that they didn't I'd politely ask for the business cards of everyone I've been speaking to, and once in hand, the relevant contact details for Toyota's dealer complaints department.

If you put enough fire up their asses, you'll get what you want :)

Yeah that was what i did and the general sales manager spoke to us. Im a law graduate and my dad who was with me is an attorney. Basically it ended up with the general manager saying "if you want to pursue it then pursue a legal action". He said he was the boss and he doesnt want to sell us the car. this has caught me off-gurard really because even in a gentlemen's agreement, both parties should honor their commitment. I asked for all my papers back because they had a copy of my diploma and my original homework sheet of what the other dealers gave me. basically the general manager went looking for it but left the store after a few minutes with us waiting in there not knowing he left. to all potential toyota buyers, do not go to dublin toyota in the bay area.

one other thing, they tried to charge me almost 25% interest and i have an 800 fico score. it was a little insulting. because they ended up in the final deal with 5.99%, they decided to back out of the deal.

He told me that had received 20 emails within the first 5 min, but I was the first to see it. I knew I was getting a steal so I only asked him to go down to 9,900. Just bought my Yaris 4 days ago. It's a manual LB, and the only options are the $630 convenience package (AM/FM/CD, 15in Wheels, etc) and $209 floor mats. No power windows/door locks... no ABS... nothing else. Interesting to note that no manual Yaris LBs in Texas come with the power package option.

MSRP for this car was $12,664. I negotiated the price to $11,600. I went to 3 different dealers in Austin - the dealers wouldn't budge beyond this same price, so I bought from the one that offered free lifetime oil changes. With TTL (Texas car tax is 6.25%), the OTD price came to 12,580.

It's on OK deal, and I'm happy with the purchase.

Mine had sticker of 12660. Options = convenience pack, "cold weather pack" and carpet floor mats. No ABS--had it on previous car and in 5 years it came on like once...

That price included dealer delivery/handling fee of 630--document processing and other fees, tax, title license all extra.

Negotiated price of 11800 and got about what I wanted for trade-in.

Drove 2 hours to larger city to get it--local dealer only had automatic transmission and I wanted manual. Also only black one on any lot nearby.

I did majority of deal via email and phone--VERY easy this way--no pressure or salesman BS--just ask for someone on internet sales team.

I was quoted recently (April_2007) COSTCO pricing on a 2007 Yaris Liftback with automatic transmission, all-weather package, and floor mats: USD12,805.

I walked out on them and was off the lot and driving away when they literally ran after me and said they would beat COSTCO.

I wasn't ready to buy it that day, but now I know that I can get a base model w/AT for less than that. Should have haggled more to find out
just how much lower they would have gone, but I was out of time.

Any ideas about when Seattle area dealers might put on a big sale to start getting ready for the 2008s?

Also, any users out there like to comment on ConsumerReports concerns:
"most disappointing list"?
sloppy emergency handling?
a lot of noise?
an uncomfortable or compromised driving position.?

I like a quiet car, but I've been driving my wife's old Wrangler to work and any car will be an improvement.

AT drivers: does the staggered shift feel natural after driving for some time?

Which Yaris color offering is most visible to other cars?

Anyone out there in the Pacific Northwest USA or British Columbia able to get a really base model without the All-Weather Package?

Thanks for any help

I told them that including NJ tax, registration, etc. I didn't want to pay over $15,000. Amazingly, they gave me a car for $15,235 out the door, including 7% tax, $240 approximately for 4 years registration, $7.50 for the tire recycling fee, and whatever other small fees I forgot about. I think I made out fairly well.

I purchased my 2007 Yaris Liftback with 72,000 miles on it for $8,000. I have been a Toyota owner my entire life and I know that this car will perform its duty well after it is paid for.

Before purchasing my Yaris I sold my lifted Toyota 4Runner and I have since enjoyed driving my Yaris to work daily. With gas prices currently at $2.09 in Tulsa, Oklahoma my Yaris pays for itself and is much more fun to drive. I was putting over $200 in gas into my 4runner every month just to drive to work.

My payment of $150 is what the cost of gas used to be and now I only fill my car up (with a 20 dollar bill) twice a month.

I'm glad to see such a great forum and I hope to be a member here for a long time. FYI, I was a member before yarisworld got hacked so hello to all again!

I shopped around and made the dealers bid against themselves via email...it took about two days and really pissed off the sales people, but once I made it clear they couldn't get me into the dealership without a firm bid through email they were willing to work with me.

After about 2 days, one dealership got frustrated enough of counter-bidding to call me up and ask me what I wanted to buy the car...I made the offer and they took it.

Not to hijack the thread but here was a typical exchange with a sales guy I mentally called " Slick Willy":

Wed 11/19/08 10:31 AM

Hi XXX,

I'd like your quote for two different packages:

1) 2009, 3 door Yaris, manual with the powerpackage
2) 2009 3 door Yaris, with the allweather/convenience package.

The best quote I currently have is 14,400 for the powerpackage and 13485 for the allweather/convenience package.

Best,

Drew

Here is his first reply to me...

Wed 11/19/08 11:41 AM

Fantastic come on back in when you are ready to put down a deposit. I can match or beat your best numbers, but I won't play the best price game on email. Open until 9pm tonight. Can only guarantee that you will leave happy.

XXX XXXX
636 XXX XXXX

Since he was trying to play games and didn't include a quote, I just ignored him. He knew that I was in the market since I had test driven a Yaris at his dealership though...

About 2 hours later, Slick Willy wrote me back....

Wed 11/19/08 1:49 PM

I wasn't in the office earlier. I am now and have access to all the figures.

Again the point I was trying to make is that we aren't messing around here at Pappas Toyota. We are going to make you the best deal possible. Now with access to the figures I can again tell you that we will beat the prices that you have received.

without the power package I can beat them by $63, 13422 is invoice price and that is what you will pay

with power pack, I can beat them by $169, 14231 is your price

When can you come back in?

Thanks again

I ended up using that quote to bring down the price on the powerpackage further and then used the $400 from Toyota's graduate discount to get the powerpackage for 12,800 (13,600 with dealer delivery fees though...).

He kept calling me, texting and emailing me...a real high pressure attempt at selling (I'm in a PhD program and look young so they thought they could get me in and screw me at the dealership...) We had this exchange of emails...

> Did you find a car yet?
>
>
> Wanted to know if we are still in the running or if I should delete
> you from my files
>
>
> XXXX

Since he had been trying to play games for the last three days and I knew that he was trying to be slick I sent back:

> Hi XXX,
>
> You were about two hours too late when you finally gave me a number
> and I left to buy the Yaris from another dealer.
>
> Thanks for your followup though,
>
> Drew

Which was true, I had left on the 19th to buy the car a few minutes after using his quote to lower the price on the powerpackage. He replied...

I guess that means you paid a little more huh?
Oh well

enjoy the Toyota

XXX

Not quite...I'm glad that the other dealer beat his offer...I met the guy in person and he was an ass.

The moral of the story for me was that it pays to play the dealers against each other and not let them pressure you...shopping around for the right salesman was also important as the one we eventually did business with dealt with us fairly at all the other stages of the transaction (trade-in, financing etc).

I traded in my 2000 Dodge Durango. The Yaris I got had been returned after a week by a young woman who couldn't learn to drive a manual. Since the dealer sponsored my Scion car club, I called in every favor I ever had, including a commitment to show my car after I fixed it up.

Trade-in + returned Yaris + favors = $3500 plus tax, which I wrote a check for.

we got our base model '08 Liftback with 5 speed manual for $10,650 . The Blazing Blue 2 door hatch had a $12,850 window sticker . This included a trade of a 2000 Chevy PRIZM ( Corolla ) with 90,000 plus miles that had seen a collision with a deer . We figure we got $1,200 for the car and additional $1,000 dealer discount . Many TOYO dealers would give us less than $1,000 or none , this was even before the incident with the deer . Some even joked that it was a TOY-LET ( Toyota Corolla / CHEVY Prizm ) and was not wanted  . There was no rebate at that time . This was last NOVEMBER when YARIS sales were slow .

In May 2008, Bayou Blue auto with power package, alloys, keyless, fogs, mats and dealer added cruise - $14,500 OTD

In August 2008, Blazing Blue manual with power package, keyless, fogs and dealer added tint, mudguards and bumper protector - $14,529 OTD

Got a great deal in May, not so much in August (but not sticker plus some add ons), but gas prices were way up and very few manuals to be had and we are spoiled to the power stuff and keyless.

At any price the Yaris is a great deal.

Yeah; I tried that, too, but all in all they weren't desperate enough to invest a lot of energy into lowballing each other; if I didn't buy a Yaris, someone else would. Maybe your salesmen are just more motivated to sell than mine?

Obviously one will get a "better deal" (lower price) on an '07 than an '08 or '09; I always check the sidebar to see the year, as that makes a big difference...

All these folks buying '07s; interesting; wonder why so many are available???

If I really love a car, I keep it till the wheels fall off; maybe these previous owners are disappointed in and unimpressed with Yaris, as I (overall) am...

Doubt it.

^ Or with this economy, bought a car, got laid off (or just couldn't afford it), and had to sell it.

I think this is much more likely. Plus some people are just weird about keeping cars in general, always changing their minds and wanting something new. Another possibility: a bunch of used '07's coming on the used market now could represent a bunch of two-year leases having recently come to an end.

Should I try to get it down below 14000 or just be happy with what I've got? This is my first car deal (I currently drive a 1985 Toyota with 155K miles - I'm ready for an upgrade!!!). I will also be paying cash, if that helps. Thanks!

So really, they're coming down by $995. I would say that this is pretty good, the only other thing you could TRY is to get them to pay for tax. (14,000 out the door.) But it's very doubtful they would do it.

These are the prices you should see if you get a great deal.

This site is awesome for buying cars. Also, and I'm not advertising here, www.fightingchance.com. For $40 gives you a strategy to make dealers fight for your business. Not every dealer has a specific sales goals to meet, but send an email stating exactly what you want to all dealers around you and one will bite.

I plan on buying a Yaris and will use this to my advantage! if you save even $100 it pays for itself!

I purchased a used 2008 Yaris Liftback AT 43,000 miles from Enterprise for $10,600 before title and fees. It's a base model, so no power options or cruise control. They include a 12 month warranty on major services and 7 days to return the car if you don't want it. I had a salvaged car so I couldn't trade it in but they'll offer Blue Book and sometimes they'll thrown in $500-$1000 on top of it.

Hi! I'm new. Just got my 2010 3-door liftback (meteroite metallic) for $12,268 out the door. It is a 5-speed and has the convenience package, all-weather package, and the fancy floormats. I didn't care about ANY of that, but couldn't find one w/out it, LOL, so I hung in there for almost a WEEK and got a smokin' deal. ;)

Just purchased:

2010 Yaris, 5 door liftback (blazing blue pearl) - new
Automatic transmission
Power package (power locks, windows, mirrors)
Cruise Control
All weather guard package
Floor mats + cargo net thing

for $15,900 OTD (out the door), no dealer prep (car was on their lot, not a custom ordered thing), no extended warranty, no financing. Tax, tags, title, and price of car all included in that price.

I spent multiple days haggling at two separate dealerships, and this was the best price I could get at either. One dealership said they couldn't go lower than $15,900, so I walked out... and haven't heard from them since. Next dealer said they couldn't go any lower than that (after prodding, urging, and attempting to force them to "compete for my business", so I took the deal.

The initial (first) deals at each of the dealerships were around $16,900 or so, OTD. I wasn't about to pay that price. One dealer kept rambling about MSRP, and I bluntly told him "MSRP is a worthless number."

Despite various claims here and elsewhere, I could not negotiate with the dealers I encountered regarding the $250 document fee, for some reason. Seemed they absolutely wouldn't budge, although their answers seemed, to me, mainly bullshit. $250 to process papers that would have to be processed anyway to sell a car. Whatever.

I used some of the advice here on this site to gather my courage to haggle, so thanks to all.

I'll try to get pictures up soon. This is my first brand new car, first Toyota, and I hope to become a part of this forum in some way possible.

$7300 for a 2008 Yaris with power package, floor mats (of course), and AFE intake system with 5k miles. Salvaged title. Previous owner only had it for about 3 months then got into a front end accident so it was in brand new condition before that. It was fixed into pristine condition and I snagged it.

Bought it in April of 2009 and I'm coming up on 15k miles, smartest purchase I've ever made. I practically got a brand new car for half the price.

I'm still a staunch believer in used > new .... but ONLY when you do your homework and are willing to go out of your way to get a decent ride.

For example....

Ext. Color Flint Mica
Int. Color Dark Charcoal
Full Power Package / Alloy Wheels
Toyota Certified Used for 7yr / 100k miles

So I'm in the market for a new Yaris 2010 and I have a dealer offering my $14,620. This includes a power package with automatic transmission.

I wanted to get the car for $14,300-$14,500. Should I try to negotiate or just take the deal? Seems like the other dealers in the area only offer $15,000+ but one almost matched the $14,620 when I told them I had a better deal. Also what does I also read something about buying a car and getting it for less than $15,000 OTD. What do you do to get that deal or is it really rare?

Any feedback would be very helpful, I'm going to the dealer again this Sunday.

I picked up my 2008 3-dr manual tranny for $10,899 brand new. It had the NW cold weather package (bigger washer fluid reservoir, supposedly bigger starter) and a rear bumper cover thingy. Otherwise the car was pretty stripped down, no power windows/locks or cruise control. But it was a great price and I was able to add the things I wanted much cheaper than having them on the car from the factory.

It's an 08 3DR hatch, 5 speed, no power options but it does have air. One owner, totally clean in-state history, and only ~32k miles.

I have only a short driveway space, under 153" left after my boat in the garage & class B motorhome backed up to the garage. For 10 years I've been driving a rare 2 door hardtop Geo Tracker 1995 4wd. That car has been great & I've taken great care of it, but it's getting underbody rust & with 142,000 miles (I got it with 80k & only put 62k on in 10 years) I'm worried about more repair costs in the next few years.

I had looked at used Mini's but they are costly to buy & maintain & very low to the ground, painful for me with a bad back to get into. The Yaris 2 dr is the next shortest length vehicle. I searched online for used ones & found some. One I brought home for an overnight test was a 2009 auto with 34k miles with pw,pl, cruise, & most other options. They wanted $11,400 & the lowest I could bargain was $10,900 even though they had it for over 3 months.

Then I found one in South Bend, IN. I took the bus there yesterday & drove it home. It is a 2010 auto with only 4,600 miles, absolute red, with pw, pl, cruise, and most all the options available except no fog lights. It is immaculate & covered under the warranty. I've never had a car with a warranty before! The original owner had it for 5 months & traded it in as he wanted a bigger car. I paid $11,990 + only a $98 dealer fee. They said this was about a $17,000 car new & they had tried to sell it used for $15k. After 40 days they move their used vehicles to a wholesale auction house in Milwaukee. That's why they gave such a low price on it. They also picked me up at the bus station, & to sign the papers we drove 13 miles into Michigan for the lower sales tax which I'll pay when I go into to register & license it here. Sweet!!! I drove it home & got 39.5 mpg on a 120 mile stretch of the freeway at 74 mph with the AC on.

It does barely fit in my drive with an inch or two between vehicles. I need to figure out a way to pad the front bumper of my motorhome to prevent damage to the Yaris if I pull up too far.

:smile:Mark,

I read your mileage report. 10% ethanol lowers mpg about 10%. Sad that ethanol is all that's available here in Mich & in many places. You are lucky to be able to buy 100% gas. Wish the US would drop that mandate & move back to all gas. Ethanol is bad for my old boat motor & I don't like to use it in any vehicle. And as it lowers mpg it can't be a net plus for our economy & country.

Your Yaris looks great!

Yes... ethanol burns quicker than gas, therefore, fewer miles to the gallon. It is cleaner burning than reformulated gas with MBTE additive, but there are problems that go with the use...

Problem is ethanol retains water. It also is a problem with lines and dissolving plastics. New cars are designed to handle the ethanol quantities. Old cars, small and large engine carburated vehicles, boats, tractors, and lawn equipment cannot handle for the most part. Main compaint I hear with farmers are about major hesitation and starts! Also ethanol gas shelf life is much less than MTBE gasoline.

Again, welcome aboard... lots of good threads here in YW... check them all out

Cheers!

I got the three door with power pack - power doors, windows, alarm and keyfob, driving / fog lights floor mats and life time warranty (set to see if this is of any value), tint, and a few other things that came with the car. the car final cost was about $15,500 out the door with Florida tax tag and title included in this out the door price. I paid a little under MSRP

The dealership was a bunch of shit head thieves that is the one thing I hate about Toyota in Florida the dealers I have delt with in the Jacksonville, Florida area are very crooked and the mechanics are scary than the sales people.

Avoid KeithPierson Toyota at all costs.

I have always like the car but the dealers are assholes. At least the cars are reliable and I have to spend little face time with the dealers.

I really wonder how much money they make on these cars. This crooked sales men say they make $50 but that is a load of crap. They have to make at least $3,0000 to $4,000 selling cars below MSRP on a Yaris. I mean these showrooms are high overhead and the profit margins on little small cars have to be at least 12% or they could not pay those high commisions and all the financing notes on those fancy palaces toyota dealers are buiding with airconditioned service bays. THey do get hold back and stairstep payments and this would have to be factored into the gross sale price. THey must make 30% profit margins on those fat mac daddy vehicles like the large SUV's and higher margin vehicles.

:smoking::smoking:

They make fat profits, are exempt from federal reporting laws and we feel it in the ass everytime a new car is purchased.
