I am a new yaris gal ^_^

hi all,

I am "yaris gal" nice to meet you.
I have been searching for a replacement car for my (now fixed) toyota corolla since its transmission broke.

While searching for an used Corolla, the yaris caught my eye and it is cute.

I bought a 2008 Yaris Automatic, with 33200 mile in it for $8000 - Certified preown toyota.

Do you have any suggestion or any experience on this car?
May I ask where I can locate a pdf of the owner's manual/handbook please? I have been trying to find one and unable to.... the one in toyota website are in bits and pieces and not the whole manual itself. I do not know why they did that.

There is a section called PDF/DOWNLOAD ZONE where you can find PDF Owners Manual for a 2007. Don't worry about model year. It is the same as your '08.

so what do you like about it/what do you want to do with it? there are many people that just drive it for the mileage, others like it for its small size and increase handling and what not, others to crazy and turbo it making unbelievable power.

I guess a better answer to "what can you tell me about the yaris?" is what do you want to know? :-)

ok... I was really shopping for a corolla... since it is like a cow... my last one transmission die and even though it is fixed now, I cannot trust it for long trip.

So we have to buy a new (er) car for 90% city rough driving and 10% long tip on the weekends (about 250 mile round trip, twice a month).

Saw the Yaris and I read up on it like a few years ago about the great green vehicle. While I care about the environment, I care about our wallet on the gas just as much.

It will be a little car for me to go to work and drop kids off daily and to do our twice a month weekend trips for the family of 4. Kids are still young for now, I do not know how they will enjoy sitting in the back seat later on...

my hubby will drive the fixed corolla to work now instead of his old pathfinder (with 12-14 MPG). so overall the gas saving would be the Yaris (32MPG?) vs the pathfinder (13 MPG)

With a quick math, if the Yaris (now has 33200 in it) can last till 150k mile... which is about 8 years later, the gas saving just paid for the Yaris plus half of a 2016 model Yaris :D

How will the Yaris hold up for medium distance trip (150 mile) or long trip (800 mile)?

I am on the east coast.

there are a few people that have taken their cars cross country and have had no issues. a few others that have logged in a lot of miles (300k+) my opinion is that it should last you a good while.

sorry to hear about the rolla. I thought they were made better than that. there again, every car is different. not sure of history, driving styles, maintenance and that sort of thing.

I honestly wish I had opted for the 5 door though I couldn't find one with the manual. other than that, it works great for me. I have a small daughter (3.5 yrs).

Long trips only thing to worry about is the windshield getting hit by lose pebbles or rocks slamming and cracking it.

Also the the luggage space is minimum you can't haul a lot of stuff with 4 passengers on board.

Check the tires and so on. Also fresh oil, filter and maybe new bearings and cv joints,and check brakes.

You're good to go.

The Yaris is fine for higher mileage trips. My 2010 does a 204 mile daily commute without a complaint. Other than oil, filters, and tires, I've only had to replace a broken windshield. It seems to be a very reliable little car.

hehe you too, ha? I got hit on the windshield. But it held up pretty well for a total of 24 or more hours trip.:wink: The funny thing is, after I got it replaced,.went to see this gal.Out first meet sorta thing.I got hit again:redface: Now I have a hairline crack on the windshield. :biggrin:

long trips are not to bad in a yaris, although me and my husband have only gone six hours straight, i think we could have easily done eight without being too fatigued.

I am about to hit 221,000 miles. I once drove from Deming, NM to Montgomery County, TX (870 + miles) in one day with no issues. I have driven to and through many places in the Northeast without issue as well.

Agree; that's a crazy-low price! Most that age/mileage go for around $12k.:thumbup:
