fnkngrv, it makes winter/cold weather driving much better. Much shorter warm up times, and protects the rad from salt and stones.

Yes faster warmup and less aero drag from the air being slowed down going thru the rad. I normally would of ran a smaller opening but I figure this will work for now. My old xB my left over opening was about half of this.

Looks great! I'm curious about engine temps. Blocking off both top and bottom inlets, does it ever get too hot? (overheat)

I run the lower completely blocked off and I never run into issue until about 5°C above freezing.

I have a mechanical temp gauge in the block, so I know the exact water temp. Normal with no block it runs at about 180-190°F. With the block it runs 190-210 on the hwy. But that's only after about 20-30min. If it gets any hotter I just turn the heater on and crack the windows and the temps come down.

i havent hooked up my scangauge to verify temps yet. but i figured my xB was fine even during the summer with a smaller opening, then mine should be fine...especially now

i probably should actually install the scangauge in this car...

I've been running a full grill block in my cavalier for around 4 years now. I know, different car, different challenges. I started with the plexiglass cover though I will say it gets pretty scuffed over time. I painted my cover and did that for a while until I fiberglassed it off. the end product came out pretty well though youtube flamed me pretty hard over it.

Depending on how the car gets its cooling, blocking off the grill doesn't matter at all. My cavalier actually got 90% of its cooling from underneath. Not sure how the airflow in the yaris works yet.

Its got a factory tray under the bumper. So its sourcing all the cooling air from up front

I did a very similar thing except I used black aluminum which means it just looks like one big hole to me
