TORONTO, March 19 /CNW/ - Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today applauded the
Government of Canada's budget initiatives to encourage Canadians to choose
environmentally friendly vehicles.

"We're very pleased that the federal government's budget recognizes the
important role policy makers have in shaping the value that society places on
environmental responsibility," said Stephen Beatty, Managing Director of
Toyota Canada Inc...

...In addition, a number of Toyota vehicles should qualify for the $1,000
rebate, including the euro-styled Yaris Hatch or Yaris with a Trunk, the
ever-popular Toyota Corolla with manual transmission, and the Toyota
Highlander Hybrid intermediate SUV.

It's a fine line between which cars Ottawa considers fuel efficient and which ones it doesn't. In an effort to support so-called "green cars," Monday's federal budget promised a $1,000 rebate to buyers of vehicles that use less than 6.5 litres of gas to go 100 kilometres. The Toyota Yaris makes the cut. But several of its direct rivals fall short of the line by a fraction of a litre.

.................................................. ...........Fuel economy........Rebate
Toyota Yaris: $14,605 (four door).....................6.4...............$1,000
Honda Fit: $14,980 (five-speed manual)...........6.6
Hyundai Accent: $12,995 (five-speed manual)...6.9
Nissan Versa: $14,498.....................................7.2
Chevrolet Aveo: $12,995..................................7.55

Yeah- bastards.
jk, way to go. You can use the money to upgrade a few things or help pay it off.

From the manufacturer's web sites: (All manual trannys)

Yaris Hatch: 6.9L/100KM in the city and 5.5L/100KM on the highway

Fit: 7.3L100KM city, 5.8L/100KM highway

Accent hatch 7.4 city, 6.3 highway

Versa hatch 7.9 city 6.3 highway (6.1 with CVT tranny)

Aveo 8.9 city 5.9 highway

Ouch, check out the city kilometrage in the Aveo. Combined was 7.5!

For some reason I thought the Fit wasn't that good, but it seems that it's not far off.

Gas prices sure are hurting (comparatively speaking to before) Today I fueled up at $1.02 per litre. Most I've ever paid in my life. (Yes I know that other people in Europe pay way more)
Where I live in Canada near Vancouver, BC, we don't pay a 12 cent transit levy although they want to put one in soon, but our gas is only maybe 5 cents cheaper. :frown:

unfortunetely they just approved this rebate in march 20.. you kinna got your car a bit too early..maybe talking to your lease agent.. he or she might be able to help you...maybe change the apllication date...lolz..that the only thing i can think of..

One thing I don't get is that they say the rules are that its below 6.5 L/100 km
but the official stats on the yaris, on the toyota website, in the brochure book, and on the government website, are 6.9 L/100km

But on the website that has the vehicles listed it is 6.3 and 6.4 L /100 km

Do they actually qualify or is it some kind of mistake haha - cause I have my yaris ordered (over a Honda Fit) specifically because of the $1000 rebate (well, and the exterior of the Yaris is much better than a Honda fit, and the Fit doesn't come in white :(

marcus
04-03-2007, 12:12 PM
the reason it went down to 6.3 is because it average the gas mile between hwy and city it should be 6.9 city + 5.5 hwy / 2 = about 6.278545 round off to 6.3 and that makes yaris on that average.
