I need a commuter car to, and from, work. I'm looking at possibly purchasing a 2007 Yaris sedan with 220,000 KM for $2000 CDN. The body is in great shape. The brakes were recently changed. The seller is a personal friend.

I'll have the car safetied (http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/handbook/section5.3.1.shtml), and new winter tires installed.

Is there anything else I should watch out for, maintenance/care wise?

$2000 is a killer deal. My wife's 07 we bought in 06 is at 250k. Not a single issue this far just oil/filter changes.

Just check the insurance rates for the Yaris before you buy. You might find it considerably more expensive than other cars.

Check your bolts:

Other than that potential detail, I think it's a great deal. Best of luck!

Snatch that car up NOW. If the seller is indeed a personal friend, then there will be absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle.

Friends don't sell lemons to friends.

I bought it. I had the rear brakes changed, oil changed, and new snow tires installed. I plan to fix the cosmetic (paint scuff in two areas) in the spring -- you can't tell unless you go up close!

2 grand is f'n insane. It also makes me sick. What did the ministry actually set the tax value at?

Congrats on snagging that deal.

Second that.

Two grand was what my rattletrap Tercel cost me...once the shot engine was replaced.

Helluva deal you got there.

Great deal, the car would sell for around double that on Kijiji or Autotrader.
