So I call up my insurance company (been with them 10 years) and ask about the 2007 Yaris. She doesn't even have the car in her computer. So she does an estimate (what she compaired it to I have no idea) and she comes up with approx. $85 a month for full coverage.

$250 Comp and $500 Collision deductables, the rest of the coverages maxed out just about... Not bad huh?

What about everyone else?

I just switched companies. The company I was with quoted over 300 a month, more than I was paying for my 91 Talon and my 03 Altima combined  :eyebulge: I can't remember exactly what I'm paying now. I'll have to check and add later....

I don't know if Can./U.S. prices are comparable. I pay a little less than that, but I'm older and live in a low population area.

well my lincense is all messed up for multiple tickets in the 2003 so i was qouted like 400-450. Until the dealership found me some good insurance for 250 full coverage and a sr22 (which i need because of my messed up license)

In British Columbia (Canada), there is one main insurance company: ICBC.

There are others as well, but most of the province uses ICBC.

My premium is CAD $2033 for the year.
That's about $170 per month.

Covers $2 million third-party liability, and deductible is $300 for both comprehensive and collision.

I believe the Yaris has a passive immobilizer, and I received an anti-theft discount because of that.

My insurance on the Yaris is only about $50, but we have two cars with them and also have our homeowners insurance through them.

Saskatchewan = exact same coverage, I'm 23, a -3 driving record until June (when it all gets cleared off) and pay 132$/month for the EXACT same coverage, except my deductable is 100$ for both comprehensive, collision, vandalism, and windshield repair.

why?
05-17-2006, 06:03 PM
I was estimated at about $800 US for the year, including a two car 5% discount and an alarm discount.

We'll see what the insurance company really says it is when they make it up.

It's possible that your premium is lower because your driving record and claims history is better than mine.

I'm at -25% discount, but I would've been at -40% had I not got into an accident nine years ago.

To further compare numbers, ICBC's BASE premium for the 2007 Yaris Hatchback is roughly 2600 dollars. That's if you are at base rate, no surcharge or discount.

Still pretty expensive if you ask me... But us British Columbians have to deal with ICBC, which is a crown/provincial corporation, 99% of the time. Even people who deal with Canadian Direct insurance maybe get at most another 5% off.

It depends a lot on location (& commute). Start in the centre of the GTA & prices usually go down as you start to move out towards the sticks.

The best I could get for the Yaris was around $150/monthly. I could've brought that down if I had home/other insurance with the same company.

Still a rip. Oh well.

The minimum (min liability only) is $61/mo and full coverage would be $244.72/mo ($250 deductale) for me.

Just a heads up here... if you plan on having a loan out on a new car you will be expected to have full coverage (comp and collison) otherwise you won't be able to get a loan

Yup i realize that. Ill be buying outright so i guess it will depend on my income as far as what level of insurance i get.

Well.... really think about it. Even if you buy it outright do you really want a brand new car on the road with no Comp or Collision? To me that is taking a huge risk  All you need is for someone to hit you who doesn't have insurance and you are screwed big time.... Good Luck and be careful

Yeah, aside from full coverage my insurance co. won't depreciate the value of the car for the 1st 2 years. Considering the car won't be paid off for at least three or four...

Well here in New Mexico i would have to say a fair amount of the pop dont have insurance at all... If i can afford to i will do full coverage but if not i will def get uninsured motorist. Im waiting on my tax refund so once i get that ill prob just pay for as much full cov as possible. Im currently dealing with an insurance company of the girl who pulled out infront of me (totalling my 98 escort) so that makes me realize how nice it would be to have full cov on a new car.

Now I know that a 4/5-door car enjoys lower insurance cost than a coupe. In other words, the extra doors will pay for themselves eventually. Too bad I did not know about that when I ordered my car.

My insurance went down $200 a year for the Yaris, from a Corolla, for high coverage and low deductibles. I'm in the insurance business if anyone living in California wants a quote, pm me.

dude i cant believe people are paying so little. Its virtually impossible to get rates like that on new cars in NY (at least in the city adn surrounding burbs). Im paying 650 for 6 months premium- full coverage 500 ded.

a big part of insurance rate is the AREA you live in...high traffic, vehicle vandalism/theft rate, your driving record, how many vehicles you insure under one insurance plan, and even your credit score will determine your monthly insurance rate. if you are high risk for credit..expect to pay out the wazoo even with a good driving record.

i have 6 vehicles insured, live in the suburbs of austin (low crime/theft), i have a perfect driving records for 10+ years, and very good credit..so $63 a month was about right..

my agent actually quoted me $3 more a month for the sedan! probably because its actually worth more...54$ to $57 ain't gonna dent the wallet anyways.

I also have to buy through ICBC - In British Columbia you HAVE to get base coverage through ICBC, extended coverage can be bought elsewhere but you dont save much unless your 65.....
I pay $125 a month full coverage with $300 deductible and I have 40% discount.
You Americans have it awsome with private insurance...

Its great now but about 4 years ago I pretty much totalled my malibu avoiding a headon with a semi and ICBC bent me over hardcore on that... Ended up with a 10% surcharge (110% insurance rates) plus they fixed the car... I fought with them for 2 full years, wrote letters to the commisioner of ICBC, local MP, local ICBC offices etc etc to dispute my claim and them fixing the car (cost them 10 grand - malibu blue booked at 8500). Every dispute process at ICBC is internal... hence good F'ing luck getting any resolution in your favour. To make a long story short I hadn't been insuring cars for a while... and when I decided this year to check my discount they had nothing on file about any accident...
If you have a family member with good rates....
Needless to say I despise ICBC

What are you guys insuring for such high rates? Does your Yaris have platinum seats or gold tinted windows or something?

I pay $210 per 6 months or $420 for the year (USD). That's for FULL insurance ($1000 deductible collision and $500 comp), $250k/500k/$100k liability.

Oh I forgot to add -- it's a 2007 4 door sedan.

In my case I could have gotten cheaper rates but you have to read the fine print plus it's CND pricing.
A lot of the policies I read over I would not touch with ten foot poll.
My policy is for 2 drivers, includes replacement car ( if involved in an accident costing more then $1000 they don't fix it they replace it)
1,000,000 coverage
flood damage
My coverage covers me in the US as well as Canada

I spend a lot of time driving around Buffalo and surrounding areas in NY.

have you ever taken the time to look at everyones cars in NY?
I crack up at all the newer and some brand new cars over there smashed to shit and duct taped together driving down the streets. Seems like every other car is banged up in one way or another.
Driving through the mall parking lots it easy to spot the out od state or Ontario cars, because they are clean, shiny, new looking and no dents or duct tape LOL
