This is my first time buying a new car,and I'm borrowing part of the money for my new Yaris from my credit union, and then I'm going to pay for the rest with a check. I will be giving Toyota two checks, one from me and one from the Credit union.Does anyone know,if Toyota take personal checks ? Or will I have to get a Certified check from my bank? How much do they charge to certifie a check? or should I get a money order?

Thanks, in advance :)

You'll want a certified check or money order, otherwise they'll most likely make you wait until it clears.

A certified check shouldn't cost you more than $3 or so. Make sure you DO NOT lose it - the money is taken out of your account when the check is printed (which is why they don't have to wait for it to clear– the check has the actual value printed on it).

We put $2,500 on our Visa - wanted to max the nice rebate we get on Visa purchases. ($2,500 was maximum Dlr would let us put on Visa). Paid the rest with a personal check. Left 30 minutes later with our new liftback.

Dlr can run a credit report and know your credit history in minutes.

Dlr knew ours because we had taken advantage of Toyota's 2.9% financing on our 2006 4Runner V8 a couple of months before. Guess being old and settled helps too!

Personal cheque OK here as well.

I paid $5000 on credit card, and the balance on personal cheque.
Drove out with the Yaris with no problems.

They dont really care.

They run Credit checks and Licenses verification so they know where you live. If you run away, they come with cops to arrest your ass.

If they dont let you drive your car off the lot right away, tell them "Im going to another dealer"

I had to go get a bank check to pay. I offered to pay the business manager in all 1 dollar bills, but she didn't like that idea too much.

I think if a Canuck offered to pay in one dollar coins (aka Loonie) I would find that hilarious.

I paid for my Yaris with a personal check.

Damn, I didn't think to ask if I could put part of it on my VISA; it would've been nice to get a few WorldPerks miles.

paid in full with a personal check. wrote the check and drove off the lot 15 minutes later, after signing mountains of paperwork. good luck!

Same here - bouncing a personal check that size is a major crime.

I wrote a personal check for mine. They wouldn't take credit cards, however, at the dealership I went to so it all depends on dealership.
