Hey everyone....Within about six weeks I'll be living in beautiful Portland...yeah!
I will be buying a Yaris...2 door, I think auto, preferably red.
What I'm asking is for a heads up out there for such a car...I'd prefer to buy from an individual.
Also...I don't think there's a lot of snow out there, but if it does snow do they use salt?
I'd like one with less than 50k and am prepared to spend up to 9k cash. That might change.
Also, any ideas on tag fees? Here in Fl they are ridiculous for a transfer.
So if anyone can help with all this I'd appreciate it.
See you soon, Mark

Welcome! I mostly just lurk, but I'm a Salemite looking to pick up a Yaris around the time I get my degree in a few months.
You can find a list of Oregon's title and registration fees here (http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/pages/fees/vehicle.aspx). The title transfer is $77, and if you keep the original plates, it's only a $6 transfer fee--or $24 for a new pair. The only weird thing about Portland is that there's an extra $19 annually tacked onto registration (which is normally $86 for two years) for Multnomah County residents.
Also, if for some reason you decide to look for a brand new Yaris, I believe Wilsonville Toyota has a red L automatic in stock. I've definitely seen some red hatchbacks on Craigslist too.

I used to live in Portland about 5 years ago. No one uses salt that I'm aware of anywhere on the west coast. In Portland they used GRAVEL on the freeway and most of the pickup trucks dont use mud flaps so watch out for flying rocks in the few times it snows. The front of my car also had a crap ton of rock chips in the paint. Yaris did fine in the snow there with sipped all season Goodyear tires.

You might also PM member (Yarisworld member) mrmiles. He seems to have the ins and outs of that metro area pretty well 'dialed in'.

Forgot: user Thirty-Nine is a Portland-based Yaris owner as well.

:bonk: on my part. When I think Thirty-Nine, I think 'forefront of knowledge re the small car marketplace', not Portland.

I work for Nike and while I did not travel to Portland last December (I go there every 3 months) I hear from colleagues that the weather was crazy early February. It is not common to have a lot of snow downtown, however ice is another story...good luck riding a Yaris that suits your needs!

Well I'm in Portland now/two days in. But, the car I found, right before I flew out of south Florida is a 08 Yaris Manual...with 18k on it....5speed....for 8k....one owner. I think this is a pretty fair deal....am I right? I figure shipping is 900 buks.....Let me know what you all think of this deal. Thanks.

Okay....after a couple of months of looking, I found one. Picked up a 09 Yaris 2 door HB 5 speed with 51k on it. Original owner and new tires...wooo hooooo. I will accept any tips or advice.
Yaris On!

The snow this year was bad due to a snow storm, but typically it will be light snow for a few days, nothing to worry about. no salt, but gravel is used in some places, as well as the oil based de-icer in select areas (WHICH I HATE). What part of Portland did you move to? Welcome to YarisWorld and the rainy nasty Northwest :p

The Mt. St. Helens cruise is fairly close to Portland and one of the bigger cruises/meets/potlucks I go to each year... or try to go to. Missed last years, won't be missing this year!
