New to Yaris! But is my car okay?

I am glad I found a Yaris forum as I seem to have doubts about my Yaris 1.33 VVT-i Multimode Transmission. I bought a used Yaris (2011 Model) which has done about 30,000 miles. I have always driven automatic and this one's a I-Shift gear or Multimode Transmission.

My questions to Yaris owners are these:

1. Why does my Yaris struggle to get beyond 60mph? I have done 70-75 but only when on a slope.Is this normal for 1.3 engine Yaris?

2.Secondly, why are the gear changes so acutely felt and jerky? I feel them even when I am doing 50mph and accelerate to go faster and everyone in the car feels it. It is particularly acute when I start the car and ease off and the lack of speed is a bit of a handicap when entering a roundabout and I seem to block other cars as my car is still slowly gaining speed with jerks! I can see all other small cars smoothly passing me by while I am still struggling!

3.Is there any place in UK where I can get my Yaris checked by Toyota Company. I bought the car from the Toyota dealership in the area and I don't know what to do to get answers.

Can anyone help me get some answers?

I can't answer #3, but for #1 and #2 the answer may be that the MMT needs to be re-calibrated.

The MMT is really a manual transmission with some extra electronics and actuators to do the shifting for you.

The service manual for the MMT indicates that there is a calibration procedure (that is done using the Toyota electronic service tool) and that behaviors like your #3 would indicate that calibration is necessary.

Also, I believe that I heard mention of a service bulletin regarding certain vintages of the MMT, where a software upgrade was necessary to improve the shifting characteristics.

I would start with speaking with your local Toyota dealership about the behavior your are seeing. With only 30,000 on the car, hopefully it is still under warranty.

I had a MMT Diesel Yaris which never struggled to reach 80-90mph with some to spare. The petrol version should be the same, so there's something wrong there! The MMT does take some getting used to and does need a bit of input from the driver. The electronics are a bit thick (stupid) at times.
Try anticipating the gearchanges and lift your foot off the accelerator momentarily to achieve a smoother gearchange.
As CTScott says, it might need a re-calibration/update at your Toyota dealer.
Also as CTScott indicated,Toyota cars purchased in the U.K. from June 2010 have a 5 year warranty (100000 miles) So your car is well within that. Get it back to the supplying dealer with your concerns. If you have no joy with them contact Toyota G.B. too.
