Hi guys, after losing my 2007 HB in an accident I switched to Jeep(baaad move) and now I'm looking at getting back to a Yaris.
There is a guy selling a used 2011 with 29k miles that he had for his house maid to take the kids to school. The car is in great shape, has all vin stickers and smells like new. The airbag light is on, is there a recall on this???
The asking price is $9000
Thanks

I have only seen the spiral cable (clockspring) recall notice for 2006-2010 Yaris. If you can get your hands on the car for a minute you can read the airbag system code using the following procedure:

You can use a small piece of wire or a small paperclip to do the jumping. If the car is still under warranty it should definitely be covered. You can also go to the "recalls" section of Toyota's website and plug in the VIN to find out which apply to it.

Seems a pretty low price I smell a rat!
But here in NJ where there is no inspection other than is the CEL on I would buy it if everything else was good!

I got under the car and checked the suspension, control arms and bushings seemed fine, checked frame for possible collision damage and everything seemed fine. No CEL at the moment per my Actron OBD scanner which indicates light should be off.
I am going to check the airbag codes per scotts methood tomorrow (hopefully)
Guy was asking for 10k when He started negotiating with me. Its a base model with power nothing.

thanks for the tip scott, managed to reset the airbag light, I couldnt read the code though.
I took it to my friends body shop today and he found that the yaris had been in a small impact on the drivers rear side. He did say there was no frame damage and the repair was done properly(so good I didnt even notice it), I told this to the owner and haggled him down to 8k. My guy looked at every other inch of the car and couldnt find anything else wrong with it. All VIN stickers are present so I pulled the trigger :headbang:

Nice. If it cleared and doesn't come back, then the problem was likely resolved, but they didn't reset the SRS ECU.

I just received my recall letter today re the spiral cable and the letter mentions that if the spiral cable is defective - that the air bag light will come on....so that may be the reason - at any rate the recall is for all 2006-2010 Yaris so you are covered for the repair.

So far so good, after they guy had it reset(don't know how, but I do know the light wasn't unplugged from the cluster and everything else is acting good)
I've driven 250 miles with and without a passenger and the system has been behaving as expected. (weight sensor working when passengers sit/exit the vehicle).
I checked for any recalls and for my VIN there are none.
The things the car had when I bought it:
Rear drivers water leak by taillight/trunk seem - Fixed with silicon by applying a nice big coat outside and inside the vehicle.
Rear drivers side bumper reinforment bar support - It was a bit smashed for the impact, I ordered a new OEM toyota(body shop buddy gets 40% on all OEM parts) one along with the shock absorbers for the bar.
Acc belt squeak - Gone after re adjusting the tension on the alternator, belt seemed fine.
I'm in love with this little sedan after having my 07 HB totaled :drinking:
