It getting really hot here, breaking 100F tegularly these days as we close in on summer. I wanted to know if i could use 14w-40 oil specially since I wanted to do a few track events.

I think you would be better served with a synthetic as that is what the race cars use. It will not break down as easily.
One thing about a thicker oil is that it could be harder on your seals and less lubrication during start up.
Mind you, just my humble opinion.

I don't think you need to go so thick. I would say 10w30 or 15w30.
I've read people using 15w40 or even 15w50, but they are in the middles east and they barely see anything lower than 100f...

I use 10-40 in my wifes Camry as it has 120k on it. It will burn more than a quart of oil between oil changes (5000 miles) if I use 5-30. With the 10-40 it uses about half a quart.
No problems.
Also, its possible to find 10-40 on sale more often because few vehicles use it. I got a 5 quart jug for $12 several times!

Pumping that heavy oil will eat up a couple horses. Use synthetic.

It really depends where you live. You want to use oil that is heavier at cold on very hot areas. (read 100F early in the morning), so i think 10 or 15w30 would be an ideal oil.
i am not sure about 15w40 or 15w50 as these are heavier at full operating temps.
synthetic or not, oil viscosity remain the same.

I forgot to mention the 15w-40 I have is a full synthetic racing oil with added zinc.

100 degrees and during competition 15-40 is going to use up ~2% of the engine hp?
Really? :iono:
