Sounds like a diesel engine

Hi Everyone,

First time car owner in the states. Yaris sedan base model 2007. 104+ miles, owner number 4 with the 3rd and second owner not having it for very long based on the car fax. The maintenance light came on recently but from the first I noticed the engine sounds like a diesel engine which I'm not used to since my mom had a yaris too and its a very quite car. Does it just need maintenance or is there something wrong? The sound dies down once I'm cruising but when i press on the gas it has that diesel engine sound.

Probably a leak in the exhaust. Most likely the doughnut gasket needs replacing. I've had that with my current 2007 Yaris, and a friend has also had the same with his 2009.

I'll have someone have a look. Are you in the states do you know what it costs roughly to replace the gasket?
