View Full Version : Why you picked RS vs Non-RS HB (LB) Yaris

So why didy ou choose the non-RS or RS version of your Hatchback Yaris? I am asking this because out of 10 Yaris I see, only 2-3 of them are the RS version. I know RS cost a little bit more, but are there advantage to getting the non-RS and then just pile the options on?
For me, I need ABS and I like how the back seat can be folded perfectly flat (if they didn't have this option, I would of picked the Honda Fit). Since only RS have the "magic seat" option and comes with ABS I just went with the RS.

I went non-RS because:
1) It's not available for the LB in the U.S. anyway.
2) I care not one whit about any kind of bling. I don't need chrome anything, color-coded headliners or leather anything.
3) I learned as a child to never stand on the brake pedal, so ABS is an expensive and unnecessary feature for me.
4) I think rice, such as a spoiler, is just plain silly, especially on a vehicle that will spend its life as a commuter.

agreed - I'm too old for bling-bling.
now real mods to increase a performance parameter is fine.
Spoilers? hated them 20 yrs ago hate em now. Always loved sportcars - but the fastest way to change refined style to guady is to add a spoiler or skirt.
like comparing an old TVR/Aston Martin/ Jag to an 80's era Camaro.

For me it was price. The extras were not worth it to me personally. I like some of the RS things, but couldn't do it. I got mine 16800 on the road tax in. I think the RS would have been close to 21000.

i got the le model (with abs, power windows, keyless entry) instead of the rs because of price, and extra 2k and the only feature i really wanted was the 60/40 fold flat seats (the mp3 compatible disc player would have been nice) and it just wasnt' worth it.
it really irked me that toyota only offered the 60/40 on the rs and not as an option on the le.
i'm not into the bling either but have to say that echo hrs' and some of the other cars on this site look great.

i agree, I guess when I get some extra cash, i'll but the skirts, and put an RS on my grill (just don't look inside, lol)

I chose the non RS because I didn't want the ABS which I felt didn't brake as well as the non ABS. For the track, the NON ABS was better for me since I could control the braking the way I wanted it to.
I didn't need all those items like power windows, but I did choose A/C. I wanted something that I could tune myself the way I wanted it.
I wanted light, plain and simple.

I just didn't want to pay the extra to get the showy things. I like the look of the RS, but I figure I'll get a sportier looking car when I have more money to put into it, and stay with this middle kind of Yaris for now (I did get the power windows, power locks, AC, etc, so that's nice.)

Honestly, the reason I fell in love with the Yaris and bought it was because of its looks. Seriously. I would've still bought it if it got worse mileage. I would've still bought it if it had a smaller or less capable engine. I bought it b/c it looks awesome and fits in the smallest of parking spaces!
I went with the RS because I wanted the top of the line... I wasn't trying to save money with this car... I just wanted a small car, and I wasn't about to forego any luxuries. The split-folding, fold-flat seats are definitely a bonus that I use often. That, and the black RS interior looks 100x better than the base model. Throw in the alloys, fogs, side skirts, and a spoiler, and it looks like a proper little supermini!

Anyhow, that's my $0.02. Seems like we all have our reasons! :respekt:

too bad there is no RS in the US otherwise i would have gotten the 4 door hatch rather than the sedan. i liked the LB version but it would be too cramped for me and anyone i would be commuting with...but all HAIL the LB...its spoiled unlike the sedan...more mods..

some people that dont get the rs are already thinking of the whole changing of the fabrics anyway lol....although the rs does look pretty sexy...

Yet another reason to hate canada... they get all of the cool shit there.
Here the Yaris is EconoMaster, there it's Hot Hatch...
I wonder if you could grey market one of those. I think for California, it has to have more than 7500 miles on it to register it here.

I"m jealous of what my friend has in Japan, push button start, rear disc brakes, super gadgets interior, bigger rims and turbo's and body kits from the dealers.

So they can max out their profit and introduce the rear discs and turbo's and 1.8's each year after.

Visit Japan and look at the cars there, and you'll all come back with this thought in mind...Toyota America sucks!
