Not the best rims on Earth, but I wanted to get a crap set of rims to beat on for my first set. If these hold up to my driving I'll spring for real rims a couple summers down the line.

They will look good!!! I love mine, though paralell parking on the hills of san francisco has caused a couple of the rims to develop some sort of slight rash.
I haven't seen any in person but those rim protecting tires might be worth a look if you have any concerns.

 Let's see them installed! What kind of rubber you putting on 'em? I've never been a big fan of going with a cheaper wheel. Seems to me that the paint will peel and flake right off, or it could go down to how the owner takes care of them.

I'm going to wrap them in Kuhmo Ecsta AST's c/o my good friend BlackYaris. It might be a few weeks before I have them installed. Depends on how my schedule looks. I don't expect them to flake or break down. I'm going to throw some snow tires on the steelies and only wear these in the warmer months, so they shouldn't get too messed up. I'm not too worried about them anyway. I bought cheap rims so I wouldn't cry if I messed one up!

Those will look sweet on your ride. Good choice on tires too. I wish I would have gotten the AST's instead of my ASX's as they're supposed to last longer. I just wanted the reduced weight I guess. Either way, I'm proud of you for getting 17's; they look far better than any other size on this car... And since this car is basically about looks and handling (because it's so slow) the weight of your new rims won't make any diffrence. Congrats!!!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! These rims were $425 out the door with tax and everything. Killer deal if you ask me. I couldn't do Konigs, although I will be attending confessional on Sunday to repent for not buying from C2AUTO. I feel bad, but what are you gonna do? Everyone else... be cooler than me and buy from him.
I'll pull a Walter tomorrow and jack her up and give a sneak preview. In the next few months I'll be rocking smoked front and rear T badges, a smoked NCP91 badge, smoked modellista-ish tail lights, these black 17's, two new NST pulleys, a new SSK, and some Alpine type X speakers in the front. Should make the ride a lot more fun... if that is possible!

205/40 is WAY too small, at least go with 215/40 or 205/45. 205/40 is the tried and tested ricer size for their Honduhs.

Those are the ASX's you have pictured. I believe he wants the AST's. So you can give him those tires for $50 each? That's the only way I can see a total savings of $90 over tirerack.
205/40/17's are 23.5 inches in diameter, stock is 23.9 inches, so it's not to small. 205/45/17's are 24.4 inches.

I believe you are omitting the shipping cost, that is how I am adding up his savings.... actually the tires are about $65 each after tax, mounting, high speed balancing, nitrogen... the whole sha-bang
I rounded a couple dollars from the Rack's prices from when I bought my ASX's... either way Chino is getting a sweet deal

Here is a great little tool I use all the time.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
I had 215/40/17 tires on mine with the NF spring drop and the back rubbed on me. The wheels had a +40mm offset, but that was with me and my dad in the front seat. The outside of the tire wall just barely rubs on the inner fender.
Chino I dig the black with a lip...

Here are the actual dimensions and differences from OEM:
185/60/15 = 23.7" (OEM)
205/45/17 = 24.3" (+2.2%)
205/40/17 = 23.5" (-1.2%)
215/40/17 = 23.8" (+0.2%)
If you calculate the rim width, offset (+42) and tire width, then you may just have problems with 215's up front, particularly because ChinoCharles Yaris is (TRD) lowered.
I'd probably go with 205/40's, just because the car is lowered; otherwise, I'd go with 205/45's.
Another thought: If you're not concerned with tire rotation, then you could run 205/40's up front and 215/40's in the rear. We're only talking about 3/10 of an inch difference in OVERALL diameter between front and rear; split that in half and it's nothing! But the 10mm difference in tire width would look great and would compensate a bit (5mm) for the front/rear difference in tuck.
I realize not many of you stagger offsets or tire size front to rear, but it's very common in Japan, and it's very common on the Vitz.
Many Vitz owners in Japan stagger offsets about 5mm front to rear; for example, ET42 front and ET37 rear. Rather than staggered offsets (sometimes wheels aren't available in multiople offsets), you can basically accomplish the same look with a more even tuck by staggering tire width.
205/40's (front) and 215/40's (rear) are an ideal setup for the Yaris (lowered) because the differnce in height is insignificant, but the difference in width makes for an almost perfect tuck. And actually, you won't even notice the different tire sizes unless you read the sidewalls!

Thanks for the feedback. After some measuring, I'm confident that with an ET42mm, there should be no problems at all in the REAR with 215's.
However, 215's up FRONT won't work; if the car is lowered, they could rub under some conditions, not to mention it's not the best look pushing the wheel/tire package a hair over the edge.
With offsets, I know we're only talking 2mm! But just a couple of mm's can make a differnce!
For example: With ET40mm and a 215mm tire, you run an additional 7mm to the outside compared to ET42mm and a 205mm tire. That is huge when it comes to minor rubbing problems.
My advice for the (lowered) Yaris is never run less than ET42mm up front with 205mm tires.
If you don't plan to lower your car, then you can run ET40 with 205's or even ET38 with 195's (205's will stick out).
So, for ChinoCharles, I still say he could run 205/40's up front and 215/40's in the rear, and there shouldn't be any rubbing problems, and it will look awesome!

Actually, running a staggered setup with wider tires in the BACK could help correct my oversteer problems, so I can actually see some tangible benefits there. Problem is it makes buying and rotating tires an absolute bitch, so I doubt I'll do it. I could always go with some hub spacers to even things out.

Hey, ChinoCharles,
Yes, it may correct oversteer a bit, and it will definitely even out the unsightly tuck front to rear, and it will look great!
Buying tires of the same kind in 2 different sizes shouldn't present any problems at all; for example, the the Kumho ASX offers 205's and 215's... so do Falken, Nankang, Nitto, and Hankook... all reasonably priced.
Well, I've never been a fan of tire rotation on front wheel drive cars anyway. When the fronts are worn, the rears will still look like new! Just replace 2 at a time when they're about 75% done.
C'mon ChinoCharles, go for it and be the first! You're car will look awesome and you'll start a big staggering movement here.
