what should i get the new SCION XB or YARIS LB

If you don't need the room the Xb offers, then it's no contest.

I've driven the new xB....kind of a pig by comparison. I'm looking at the xD because of the 5-door. Not thrilled with the big schnoz, but in every other way, it's a Yaris TS (lots of interior styling cues, plus the 1.8L) If I had my way though, I'd take the Yaris RS 5-door our Canucklehead friends get. The exchange rate is preventing that now.

Hey, the exchange rate is less than 10% right now! Unfortunately, that is not necessarily reflected in the price of Canadian cars.

It's apples and oranges... the Yaris get's that extra little spot in the city, but no respect from trucks and SUV's.

If I didn't have an Xterra for the big things, owning a Yaris as my only car would be tough... but there's always Enterprise for that truck when you need it once a year! =)

I think the best thing to decide is what you are looking for in a vehicle.

Up until about three weeks ago I had a 2002 VW Beetle GLS. It was a blast to drive, but a maintenance nightmare. As it got closer to 100,000 miles I knew that I had a choice to keep making repairs or buying something newer. Now we already own an older Honda Accord (Wife's car) and a Chevy Cargo van for my larger work items.

I had a few specs for when I was researching cards. One, it had to be either Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. I later added the Mazda 3 to that group. It had to get at 30 MPG or more. So that pretty much ruled out every SUV type vehicle on the market. It had to have enough room for me to fit my corporate head shot lighting kit. It had to be around 15K before taxes.

So I went test dirving cars working from dealer to dealer. With some printouts from the dealer websites, I was planning on driving a Fit, A Versa, a Matrix, and a Yaris.

The Fit has a LOT of room and flexiblity for a car of it's size. The flat folding seats and storage compartments were very nice. They only had an auto in stock and it was peppy, not exciting, but peppy. The test drive was OK. Nothing to write home about but Ok. One thing I noticed about it was the wind seemed to catch the car quite easily. The base car had most of the power options, decent stereo. The sticker price was 15.5k or so. Dealers in Charlotte don't negotiate at all on the Fit because they are in such demand. MPG numbers are great for the amount of stuff you could fit in this car.

I never drove the Versa. The back seat design does not allow it to fold flat enough for it to be of value for me. Which was sad because the base interior looked VERY nice and well put together. I am sure that for someone less concerned with space that this might be a nice choice.Sticker price was 15.3K


Off to the Toyota dealership. I had seen a few "Hot on the Lot cars" at a dealership 30 miles from our house. One was a Blue Automatic Matrix for 15.5K and the other was a base 3 dr Yaris for 10.5K. At around 10 thousand dollars I figured I had to at least look at the Yaris.

The Yaris is a car. Nothing fancy, no power anything really. No radio, no cruise, no nothing except car (ok it had AC). I figured I should drive this first before I drove the better equiped Matrix. I was pleasantly surprised with the test drive. The gears were pretty smooth, the acceleration was quite good for a car or it's size. It handled well and was easy to manuever. This one has the bench seat and while it does not fold flat, it folds enough for my needs. I was very impressed with how this little car handled.

The Matix we drove was fully loaded with PWR windows, doors, cruise, etc. The storage capacity of the car is incredible. My wife kept saying that it would be really good for my work as a photographer. The drive itself was boring. It handled ok, but it felt sluggish compared to my previous drive in the Yaris. I am sure it's a fine car, but I did not connect with it as much as I did the Yaris. The MPG was something like 28-34. Which was in my range.

We ultimately decided on the Yaris. It was peppy to drive, cheap as dirt to buy (My first new cars was an1988 VW Fox for $9900) at $10,500 20 years later is amazingly cheap. Basically I decided that cheap, small, and super fuel efficient was more important to me than all of the power options. I am going to add some stuff to it. I bought the Rostra Cruise kit and am having that installed next week. Installed it's about $400. Security with door actuators will cost another $400 or so.

I drive about 40K miles per year. The VW got about 26 MPG average. I have run tfour tanks through the yaris so far. Tank one 35.1 MPG, Tank2 39.82 MPG (DFCO), Tank3 39.32 and tank 4 37.55. Most of this is city driving. At these mileage rates, It will save me about $1300 a year a gas.. Over five years that means it cost me about 4 grand to own the car.
And best of all it's fun to drive. It has 15 less HP than my VW, but it also 800 lbs lighter.

Anyway that is my long story about why I bought a Yaris.

The real problem is the fact that you can't get the GST refunded anymore, and there's a 2.5% duty. In Washington, I'd have to pay use (sales) tax. It ends up costing more U.S. than the Can. sticker. Ode for the days of 37% exchange.

We don't have Scions here (and by the looks of it that's a good thing). I just had a look on the website, the XB is butt-fugly, the XA is *okay* and the tC looks reasonably good. Seriously, whoever designed the XB needs to think that maybe that job isn't for him, infact, maybe living isn't his niche either.

Xb is probably a good car, but I can't see how anyone would like the exterior styling unless they also love large trucks and SUV's....sure it's smaller than them but...:rolleyes:

I like the styling of the XB, both old and new. More importantly, the XB has WAY more space than a Yaris (plus a tachometer and cruise). Ask yourself if you can live with a tiny car, if you can, the Yaris is for you. If not, go with an XB.

so i think this is what ill do since i already have range rover and escalade far as big car and i have my modified EVo9 with over 500whp to the wheels and a porsche for the weekend cruiser so i guess i dont need the size i just wanted to save on gas but have a car that looks damn sporty when its freaken fixed up..............................so i guess i will try to get my YARI.

OOOHHH!!! I'll tell you this, the xB is much cheaper featurewise but it does have 29MPGHWY and does look like a toaster now rather than the use to be box...

The Yaris on the other hand has a turn on a dime ability, you can use spare change to pay its down payment and even gasoline, it can be used to play soccer (using the car) and can get 40-50MPG and also the Yaris is a perfect auto sports car (all you need are stabi-bars, spring, better rubber and a nice sounding exhaust)

IT IS YOU CHOICE THOUGH, BUT IF YOUR GONNA GET AT and dont know stick, give yourself the favor and buy the xB or else you'll be a "little girl"...

If MT, don't get the xB because its shifter is like a stick stuck in a pillow! and clutch is made of airbags and foam...

i went to the dealer yesterday and it was a bayonblue or wat ever its called but its not my that of color so i ask the sells manager to order me a white one for the same price and yes he agreed to find me a white one....i know it has a powerpackage since the car i almost bought had all the power windows and lock and even keyless entry............any how i think its a nice DD car but i'll enjoy even more once its freaken fixed up.:thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:
