40 - 50 average but I work some crazy hours. Im in IT so I have software releases to work. They take place when site traffic is the least for our global customers (3AM Eastern was my last one).

But...I get to work from home now 100% virtual and I have a great boss so its all good. Plus I get a lot of comp time off the books....

stay-at-home dad, so i work 168 hours a week. before that, i was a high school math teacher, and worked 35 hours a week. every teacher will tell you that their work load is ridiculous, but if you're a math teacher, know your shit, and are organized, you can get all your shit done by 3pm and are home by 320. dont forget every conceivable holiday off, random half days, and winter, spring and summer breaks. GREAT JOB. i believe you work a total of 160 days out of the year. before that, i was an entry-level engineer and worked 60 hours a week. needless to say, the money was NOT worth the time. i made twice as much in comparison to being a teacher, but was 1 tenth as happy. how can you enjoy your money when you're at work so much?? remember: you can never buy back the time you lost at work or during your commute, so dont overdo it...

anywhere from 15-20 hours a week when i have my primary job. but when i have my second job during school, i work 15-30 hours a week. plus i have no less than 15 units worth of classes.

right now, i only have my primary job, but i'm taking organic/biochemistry over the summer from 5pm to 9:20pm. and this class is not easy, especially at an accelerated pace.

Like Static808, contracted as tooldesigner for a few years making good money but working 60-70 hrs a week and will never do again....current job I'm lucky to make it 40 (burn vacation time), life's too short to not see your kids/family.

Currently averaging 60 a week.As soon as my kiddo is born I'm dropping the work load down to 40 so I can focus on being a dad and get back into school.

such as replying to a PM sent to you by a kid that only works 24hrs in a deli and whose manager doesn't do anything and tells everyone what needs to be done while she walks around the store talking to other co-workers..............lol

40 with the occasional couple of hours of OT when needed. Sometimes if a job gets rushed we will work saturdays for an extended period of time.

I am a tradesman so I do a lot of physical work. 40 hours is about the max I want to work.

another 40 hour work week here, normal 4-8 hours OT every week. On call after hours and on weekends. Oh I work at LAX btw, maintenance contract for their cctv systems.

Not my EXACT situation but even so, oh dayam, life is good!

Most I ever worked was about 60 hrs/wk, for several months, for no more money. It's SO much better when you earn more for working more.

I have a wildly variable work week, being the sole IT guy for a company that writes wireless applications for cell phones. Some weeks I can do 80+, other weeks I might only put in 10 or 20 and use self-tracked comp time for the rest.

I have my own office, pretty much make my own schedule and am salaried. As long as everything runs smoothly (which is no easy feat) I usually don't gather much attention.

Would that be writing code in J2ME?

I typically work 65 hours a week on average (5 days, sometimes 6, 12-13 hours a day).

What is this 9-5 shit I heard about as a child?

LOL!! I work about 80 hours a week between my full time job and running my own business. On top of that add a 9 week old baby to the mix! I understand though, if I was working for the man, over 40 would suck-ass, and I can do a lot of my own stuff at work.

A late congrat's on the little one! As long as everyones happy with the hours go for it. The main thing is enjoying what you do....like you inferred, the 'man' likes to dictate when/where/how much....as long as you're in charge of those three, enjoy.

working as a railroader I work:
10-12 hrs a day, 5 days a week

others in my line of work, travel for 10hrs, spend 6-14hr in a hotel then travel 10hrs back home, get 24hrs off, and do it again...

we get no set days off, were on a 2 hr call window, and we work 365 days a year 24/7, money is good job sucks.

I run my own company. I go to the office 6 days a week and put in close to 14 hours a day... on sundays I am usually at home checking emails and doing some work as well, but in between errands and trying to get to see friends...

Of course, I do have downtimes and I tend to surf forums like this...

I work 35 hours a week +1 hour for lunch. The typical 9-5. However, as Peter says in Office Space, "I'd say in a given day I only do about 15 minutes of actual work".

If you're into moving cross-country, central WA could use you. I do the same thing, and I know you could easily find work in my area.

I'm constantly at work. I am a Spanish translator for verizon so any time they need a call translated I get a call on the company issued phone. it can be day or night for 5 days but they pay well for the trouble.

40-50 hours (swing shifts) depends on the week + going to school online that takes up a good amount of time, I don't know if anyone else attends school online, but classes are fast paced... you do two classes at a time but they get crammed into 9 weeks

Thanks Kurokoma-kun & Astroman! Nice to know people care! Unfortunately, I live in a very small town in northeast GA & can't do much traveling or get work too far away. My hubby is disabled so I have to be close in case of emergency. WA would be great (my son lives there) but can't blast Hubby off the east coast.

And at the moment, I'm thinking of doing something different. I've had it up to my neck with the printing business!

no it is not normal. it's not good to have no motivation. you really need to find something that motivates you, be it family, friends, cars, music, etc...
