Custom order HELP!

I have been trying to buy a Liftback with options since February, searching inventories across the country with no luck. I stumbled across this site recently and was surprised to hear of people who have successfully placed "special orders"

I would love to place an order but every dealership in my area has told me they can only "preference" a vehicle, meaning that if one is already built and shows up in the area, they can try to snag it, which will never happen because the options I want aren't even available in my state/region. (In New York the only "packages" available are Cold Weather and Convenience.)

I want to order a black liftback, manual trans, with power windows & door locks, keyless entry, ABS and side curtain airbags...

It is my understanding that some dealerships have "ordering authority" to have cars built and some don't.

I don’t mind waiting at all for my car to be built, but I don't know how to order one and it seems neither do any of the dealers... I've been to five dealerships. I even called Toyota National and they said cars simply cannot be special ordered which in contradictory to many owners on this site who have done it.

Could any of you who have actually successfully done this give me advice?.. or the name of your dealership!!
