I just found this photo posted on the North American Toyota Pressroom site:

http://www.pressroom.toyota.com/Images/View?id=TYT2007072791896

No other details or acknowledgements are on the site yet, but apparently Motor Trend has also announced there will be a Yaris Liftback S for 2008!

I M H O all the Toyota sport models with the body kits look cheezy, that's a Yaris with the full options pkg with 2 ugly chunks of plastic . my dealer told me the sport mod for the 4 door was not gonna be offered in '08 as they coundn't sell them once people looked at the liftback. his words were "Toyota missed the boat when they made the sport 4 door " & that's my feeling anyway how can you call anything with 4 doors a sport model ?? I'm more happy with the clean look without the hunks of ABS . I'm gonna pull off the rear logo's anyway for that clean Black look ..............

I think the exterior looks just like RS Canadian model but with additional front lip skirt

Hopefully Canada can get that front skirt in 2008 model also.

I wish they'd forgo the useless body moldings and add some useful items like a tach and cruise control.

in motor trend it says the "S" liftback will come with OPTITRON GAUGES, wether or not that includes a tach remains to be seen.

Personaly I think the S package takes the car from a very bland cartoony look to a more slick and sporty.

"How can you call anything with 4 doors a sport model?" Did you warp here from the 1960's?

Umm..Evo's and sti's right off the top of my head.

Of course when you get your info from a salesman you couldn't be too bright....

i'm not sure with what you meant by this, but there are sedans (4-doors) that are actually "sporty". i.e. AMG sedans, the M5, Skylines in Japan, hell, even the Mazdaspeed Mazda 3 (not actually a 4-door).

personally for the sedan S, i think the kit makes a huge difference.

In the 60's anything with 4 doors WAS a family car .. but each has his own taste .. I did state I M H O 1st off in the post & my Quote was from the owner of the dealership not a salesman .I don't talk to them .

look at the side of the front lip, it is different, like a little wing kind of design... I don't find it too appealing myself, but hey, it's nice to see some options. I wonder what else they'll be updating...

Hmm who knows, I mean, we could probably look at the differences between the base sedan and the S sedan and extrapolate, Toyota would be extremely dumb not to include the gauge cluster with tach, at least!

But yeah, at this point it is just wishful thinking and speculation, only time will tell...

well, you did end his quote and say that you have the same feeling has him. and i'm really not trying to knock on your opinion, but you should really consider those sedans like the M5 (sport model of the 5 series), STi (sport model of the WRX and base models), EVO (sport model of the Lancer), etc before ask how anything with 4-doors a sport model.

totally agree with you when i read his response of the 60's.

I was at the Toyota dealer last night, and I showed them the pic of the S liftback, and it was the first time they'd seen it. My dealer has no info on the 2008s and can't allocate 2008s yet. However, she said they couldn't get any more 2007s, so the '08s should be coming in very soon. Hmmm ... I'm sure the cost will be significantly more than a 2007 Yaris anyway -- tach or not.

I doubt the price will go up much if at all. There might be some additional options available for '08 that would add to the price, but Toyota would be shooting themselves in the foot if they start jacking up the price. It's low price is the very reason many people are buying the Yaris.

I meant the 2008 Yaris S will cost more than a 2007 non S.

However, the"S" should include some higher-end options standard, so hopefully it should cost the same or less than adding all the options separately on the regular model.

I tell you -- if the S came with a tach, side airbags, power package, and whatnot (and was under $14,500), I'd probably wait for that instead of a 2007.

Is this all symptomatic of Toyota realizing that the liftback is the REAL Yaris?

The other way around:

The side skirt looks the same.. the front skirt is different around the fog lights:

I think he means sadans are like station wagons and trucks - utility vehicles and thus not "sporty" able.

this whole "sport sedan" stuff started in the early-90's.

Before then if you wanted "sporty" you bought a Sports Cars (which you can't seem to do anymore). Otherwise you bought a stodgy sedan, hatchback, stationwagon (hey were did they go? - to the same place as sports cars?) truck or van (hey where are the vans for that matter?).

JMO on the matter.

Assuming everything is growing the way it's suppose to:
2007 Yaris LB MSRP $11,150
2007 Yaris Sedan MSRP $12,025
2007 Yaris S Sedan MSRP $13,525

2008 Yaris LB "my guess" MSRP $11,850
2008 Yaris S LB "my guess" MSRP $11,850 + $1,500 (Price difference on the sedans) = $13,350

I'm hoping Toyota announces its 2008 info this week, since they've already teased us with that photo.
