I am thinking of ditching the whole living in a building idea and just maybe living out of a car. I like the yaris and the hatch seemed spacious even though it looked small on the outside.
I honestly don't want a wagon.

I think you could manage but a tent would probably be more comfortable.

I slept in the hatch once. Woke up with a wicked neck ache. NEVER AGAIN.
In Canada you can get a tent that straps onto the back of the hatch. I'd grab you a picture but I'm tired.

bah, im going to go look. I am going to try and see if its possible. After that im going to check an Xb. They look like the same length.
I am going to check a honda civic after this. If they have fold down seats like my scooby i can sleep in one.
Scooby has a HUGE trunk.

HAHA the other night me and my buddy were trashed so neither one of us wanted to drive so we slept in the car for a good 6 hours and it was fine... we are both 5'7"
check out the scion tc....they have those seats that recline all the way so u can sit in the back seats

Just a side note, If your looking for a pull behind tent trailer that weighs 260 lbs look up lees-ure lite trailers, well within our 700 lbs towing max.
I discovered it a couple weeks ago and definitly plan to get one for next camping season.

Tent trailer is fine if you intend to do all the camping stuff like cook etc., but towing/parking can be a pain. I would look at the Yaris sedan: its 19" longer, and I am quite sure I could fit in there with the seats folded down.
I've slept in lots of cars, the least likely being my ol' Morris Minor convertible: it was great! Top down, sleep under the stars; storm rolls in, sit up long enough to whip the top back up (15sec max)! My Volvo wagon is 6'3" in the back, and the seats fold FLAT; I've slept on hotel beds that were less comfortable. I've never found a bench seat in a yanktank that was comfy, though.
The tent trick is good as long as you park on grass/dirt. Pounding spikes into a parking lot is bound to get some unwanted attention.

i was thinking of the Xb more; because of the room. But, the Xb folks say there is plenty of room. So, my first step to being homeless is buying a car. So, my home would be my car and ect ect. Next step would be a laptop, then finding places to park.
I am thinking college parking lots and crap would do fine. Esspically if im going there.
Why a laptop you say? gotta do something more then sleep in the box all the time.

took my sedan on a 4k mile road trip, and slept a few nights in it, it was real cumfy in the pasenger seat, reclined all the way, and feat go right up perfect on the dash...but after maybe a week or 2 i think it might get a little cumbersome to do...

Hey, good idea!
I'm commuting to an airport 87 miles away, every saturday and sunday. I could just as well be sleeping in the car!!
Questions...
would it hurt the engine running on idle for 8 hours straight? Its 90 degrees at night where I'm at, so I'd need some air conditioning! It would use maybe 2 gallons of gas, which is plenty cheaper than the cheapest hotel room in Mesquite ($65!).
Secondly, that tent looked sweet! But how could I use it while having the engine running without getting all the exhaust into the tent (which would kill me)?
I haven't got the Yaris yet....but can't wait!

This is a weird-ass thread!! Why get a new car to be homeless in?:iono: Why not get a mid-90s pick-up truck and a new Mac and still have $5k??
Anyhow, to each his own. The yaris lacks sound deadening (insulation) so it probably gets a little cold!!

While working in Salt Lake City....One of the older gents I worked with slept on a mattress in the back of his pickup for 6 months (after his divorce:wink: )...and a younger guy had a small RV, he usually stayed outside fitness centers for use of the 'facilities'...life is good!!!!

Uh...... CO might build up its concentration and kill you. Mmmmm CO.
Also, the Yaris has no toilet or shower facility. You could improvise, but you will run out of windscreen washer fluid quickly...
