question was from my bro..
who is planing on buying a liftback at this coming labor day.
he's got the TC and maybe he's gonna trade that car for a new yaris.

He wants to lowered the Yaris and i told him get either Tein or Tanabe.
when he asked me back which one is better, i got no clear answer.
i told him Tanabe DF is good since many people use it..and i'm ordering one for my wife's Yaris.
but when i said that Tein is lower than the DF, he start asking many questions.

can anybody help?

i have the S.Tech's, and they're great. i've had no rubbing issues, even with a crapload of weight in my car. i do scratch something under my left passenger door over speed bumps if i have a full car...well worth it, and i recommend them.

I was also wondering the same. My 16x7 rims will be here this week and I will be running a 205/50-16 tire. I have also ordered the TRD struts and shocks. I need to get my springs ordered ASAP so I can put everything on at once. What are recommendations as far as how low I can go without ANY rubbing? DFs? S.Techs? Thanks!

I would love to, but they don't exactly fit in my budget right now. I got the TRD struts and shocks for $313 shipped, and can get the S.Techs for $176 shipped. $489 vs ~$900 is too big of a gap for me!

yeah but its one of those things where you have 500 now and you do the springs and such - then a few months from now you have 400 dollars in your hand and you think, what should be my next mod....thats when you realize that you should have just waited the extra few months and got that good stuff the first time...Thats what happened to me anyway...

I'm happy with my DF's,I have gotten some minor rubbing during race track type cornering. I think shocks would cure it though cause it was kinda bouncing when it was doing it.

i have a funny feeling that i'm gonna....To be honest they only rubbed one time and it was when I pushed it really hard. If you don't plan on taking the car to the limit,I doubt you would ever rub, this of course with 205/45-16's,with a 50 series I could see rubbing possibly becoming a regular occurance.

so i shouldn't go with the DFs or S.Techs then? So more like a 1.2-1.5 drop would be max?

I believe the teins give a 1.9 drop.

depends on what diameter you are trying to cram in the wheel well without modifying any plastics

if you want 205/50/16 go with no more than 1.5 to avoid rubbing, if you go 205/45/16 you could go that 1/2 inch more or be ok with 195/50/16 I think

I believe the teins give a 1.9 drop.

that is correct

i have the S.Tech springs with the TRD shocks and stock wheels and tires. my friends and family say that my car is too "bouncy". could be a little more stiff for me.

what about with TRD springs and Shocks at Trdsparks.com with stock steelies. i am trying to see a pix of that but looking thru this whole forum i am seeing Tein or tanabe. knowing the drop for TRD springs are 1.2 and Tein is about 1.9 and tanabe is 1.7 or 1.8 so very similar. mostly i want to see the gap before i pay for them and dont like it...... and end up dealing with them

i've seen couple of people who bought and installed spring ended up saying..,
"I should've bought something more lower!"

and with this...i vote for us to meet and see each other cars!!...
especially with those that already have the springs.
so far i only saw them all rolling..not stoping and have a little Yaris to Yaris talk!!
i was gonna go to that El Toro meet, but my moving stuff was too much to ignore...

i wish that there's another one...a big one!!

I just did mine and I used DF's. I'm running 15s though. I like the ride and I don't ever plan on pushing my car to the limit. I have although took some very hard corners on these and they handle great. Again I'm no pro, but I think the DF's are great for the average driver that likes corners!
