Smile Info on 2010s?

I love my 2009 base 3dr but have to say their are 2 things that are included in other markets now - which my car doesn't have- and IMO really could use- that would get me to trade my 2009 for a 2010- stablity and traction control, and a tachometer on a stick shift model. Although it was easy and cheap to do also IMO every Yaris should come standard with the rear anti-sway bar- that's how much difference it makes!

Any word available yet on the 2010s and how they'll be equipped and optioned ed?

Thanks.

Motor Trend is saying that the 2010 Yaris will have standard stability control. If you believe them...

I hope they're correct- it does become required by the Federal government at some point - a proven lifesaver- so why wait if you have it- and they do overseas.

I just hope they also fix the silly situation of offerring the stick shift model with no way to get a tach.

i'm not sure why anyone needs stability control to be honest. i dont even use it in winter with my is300...as for the yaris, when its snowy, just ease off the throttle if you feel the tires slipping..

I think it can help in very quick, unexpected emergencies Split- such as hitting black ice at speed in a turn, someone not seeing you in their blind spot and violently cutting you off at highway speed etc. Even the best driver could use a hand at those times IMO. The best safety devices are the ones that prevent the accident in the first place!

is saying totally new vitz(yaris) will go into production in late 2010 (2011 model year?) followed by a hybrid version a year later. - asahi is a major japanese newspaper; it may still be a rumor though.

A hybrid Yaris (which I have read about too- the Prius gets pretty expensive for the fuel it saves) would likely get some impressive mileage- but what about the Yaris' price point- perhaps the thing it sells on the most?

I just noticed that the 2010 Yaris info has been added to TIS. Here are the new car features for 2010:

1. Brake
The brake control system (ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, TRAC and VSC) has been newly provided; standard on all models for U.S.A. and optional on Canadian models (except Mexican package models).

2. Lighting
The daytime running light system has been discontinued on hatchback models for the U.S.A.

3. Meter
On hatchback models for the U.S.A., the slip indicator light is provided as standard.
On hatchback models for Canada, the slip indicator light, VSC OFF indicator light, and TRAC OFF
indicator light are available as an option.
On hatchback models (5-speed manual) for the U.S.A. and Puerto Rico, the combination meter with the tachometer is available as an option.

4. Enhancement of Product Appeal
A bracket has been provided on the frame of the lower-back area of front seats. In addition, the shape of the headrest used on some models has been changed.

5. Multiplex Communication
Components for the Controller Area Network (CAN) communication have been added. Along with the use of the VSC, the yaw rate and acceleration sensor and the steering sensor assembly have been added to CAN Controller Area Network) as communication components.

6. Cruise Control System
Since the brake control system (ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, TRAC and VSC) has been provided, a function that cancels the cruise control system at the time the VSC is activated has been added.

In the 2010 Model Lineup, the Manual Transmission is listed as a transaxle choice for the 5 door liftback, but it was for the 09 as well.

So does this mean the 2010 you will be stuck with traction control, and not be able to turn it off in the US (lack of an off light)? That sucks!!!

I am not sure if they mean that the VSC off switch will only be available on Canadian cars with the optional VSC or if it means that the switch and, hence light, will be on all cars with VSC. In the EWD for VSC it shows the VSC off switch with a note that says "w/VSC off Switch". Either way, looking at the EWD, adding the switch would be an easy mod.

My new 2010 Yaris 5door door sticker says VSC and TRAC standard

the owners manual says where the VSC off switch would be -if equippped-.
I have no off switch anywhere...not near the handbrake area where it should be.

So, if I have it, I can't switch it off standard.

By the way...how could I add a switch ? I don't want to get stopped on a slippery slope
by the electronics.....is the info already in these forums ?

Looking at the EWD for VSC on the 2010, I think that you will find that pin 30 is empty on your VSC ECU connector A30. It looks like that pin is grounded by the VSC off switch (on the non-US cars that have it). So, a quick and dirty test is to ground that pin and see if the Slip Off and Trac Off indicators light up.

sweet. I got a little project box I will velcro inside the cubby below the
window washer stalk. In the project box I will put 4 spst for cruise control,
resistors, and a simple toggle switch for VSC, all prewired and everything.

then I will run the wires and 1) tap into the CC lines and 2) search for the VSC disable
and if it all goes good I will report me results

On other Toyotas it is attached to the master cylinder. I haven't seen it on the Yaris yet, but would think that it is in the same place.
