This is why I love Toyota

I just want to share a pleasant experience.

So, the interior climate controls are backlit as you all may know. The backlight on the temperature control knob on my car went out. The other two knobs light up just fine. Its mildly annoying. I decided to remove the control knob and fully disassemble it to diagnose the problem.

I determined the bulb in there went out because it was getting power and ground but not lighting up. The bulb is removable by twisting it and pulling it out, simple as that (once the assembly is taken apart)

I called the dealership parts department to see what I'm dealing with. I honestly thought they wouldn't be able to sell me just the bulb because there is extensive disassembly involved to actually get to such a small part. After all, this only serves a small and mundane purpose.

To my pleasant surprise, they do have just the bulb for the assembly and they ordered it for me for a whopping $6 instead of the whole control assembly for about $70.

This is why I love Toyota. Their clever designs allow us to replace the smallest integral parts without a need to replace entire assemblies for such minor functions.

Cheers!

I just did this as well. Toyota charged me 8$. But I needed it and paid it. Ouch. It was very easy to do. And there’s YouTube video. Note that rav 4 has very similar control knobs. And I watched that video to see how to remove bulb. Then i watched center console disassemble specific to my yaris. Super easy.

The orange piece. Twist it clockwise and it pops right out.

The orange you see is actually some sort of rubbery lens cover. It can be removed and it’s clear under the orange rubbery covering. You could probably get some other colored lens covering

Yea I’ve seen that older yaris models use green as their interior color. I had a 2010 model before my 2014 and they both used orange but I think 07-09 used green. I think I’ve seen blue once upon a time too

Please tell me that in 2017 it's an LED not a filament-based bulb....
