Busted horn

My son recently obtained a speeding tickit. He at the time was decided he would take out his frustration on my steering wheel. Specifically punching the area of the air bag/horn. This action caused my horn to cont to blow. I taped the r side down with tape to keep it from keeping all my neighbors from shooting me:) Now does anyone have some insite on what was happened? are there sensors for touch that might have been disrupted or smashed? Any sugestions appreciated. thank you

It sounds like a type of road rage to me.

There are no fancy sensors, just a switch. But, it's part of the whole steering wheel pad assembly, which includes the airbag. The ticket he received is the cheap part of this. To replace that part you are looking at almost $700 from the dealership.

If you are lucky, just the cover is damaged, and in that case, you can get a replacement off ebay for about $75. The whole steering pad assembly with the horn switch and airbag goes for about $200 to $250 on ebay.

...Something tells me that I'd place his head where my steering wheel is and punch...Juuust to see if I could break his horn.

That's just me, I'm not a wiser father figure to this person, like you are.

Suggestion, NEVER allow him to drive your beloved yaris again, beat his ass, and make HIM pay for your repairs.....problem solved!

Sounds like a good idea...where does he live? If it's under your roof, that money is coming back to repair that horn...
