does this frustrate anybody else?

Auto manufacturers are bragging about selling cars in the 40mpg range and we get all excited about it. Then I see something like this from almost 40 years ago!

Oh it infuriates me actually. But most people want faster cars instead of more efficient cars, not to mention greedy fuel companies probably have a lot to do with it.

You know the government hates fuel efficient vehicles. The less gasoline that gets purchased, the less money Uncle Sam gets from gas taxes.

Yeah, I wish they would concentrate on better mileage instead of other things.
I don't think I would want to sit in that seat for 376 miles!

It's all about weight.

Would you enjoy driving an older car as a DD? These older fuel efficient cars didn't have any of the new technology we all take for granted. Also, crash standards have added A LOT of weight to modern cars, which of course offsets fuel economy.

Last thing, highway econ testing was done at lower speeds back then.
