G-oil

Has anyone ever used or heard anything about G-oil? Its apparently the "greener" option to regular motor oil. I want to try it, but I have never seen or heard of it before.

Here is their website:

http://www.getg.com/

I looked on amazon and other websites, and people claim the product is good. What is everyone's thoughts?

I personally run from anything that claims to be "green" because I've found that is the only benefit it has, while everything that actually matters is worse and more expensive than competitors.

But looking at the numbers it might be worth using if you believe in that type of thing. I'd say though more research is needed. Like if they really run it in Nascar, that would be an interesting test.

I tried it out last summer/fall because of the rebates. I ran it for 5000 miles, and it appeared to hold up better then regular oil. If you look on Bob the Oil Guy, it seems it can't take any more then 10k miles.

Now that you bring it up, it looks like they are giving it away again, so I'm off to buy some for my next oil change. I almost hope it doesn't catch on too quick, so they keep doing this.

I ran it for 3000 miles last summer and got a used oil analysis on it. It sheared down to where is was more like a 5w20. That's not great, but since the Yaris can run on a 5w20, it doesn't really hurt anything. In all other respects, it worked fine. I might try it again if I can get my hands on the 5w20 that they're supposed to be bringing out.

The thing that might give you some pause is that the "green" raw material that they use to make the oil is animal fats. Yes, it's naturally produced, it bio-degrades and it makes use of a waste product. But, if you were expecting something derived from plants, or if you are queasy about using a product derived from animals, you might want to look elsewhere.

What I am concerned about is I go about 6-8 months between oil changes. Will this oil hold up that long? I only put about 4-5 thousand miles on the car within that time frame. I'm currently using Mobil 1 extended performance.

The G-Oil would last for four or five thousand miles. It's not a bad oil and I can't imagine it would harm your car's engine in any significant way, but for the money it's not any better than many other oils that are much cheaper. If it makes you feel good about the environment, use it. Otherwise, just stick with the Mobil One that you're using now.

So far so good with the G-oil. My car has a tiny bit more pep with this oil. I will update in a few days comparing my MPG with mobil 1 and G-oil.

They're offering another rebate that I could not resist. I put in G-Oil for my spring/summer oil change today.
