Here is one other possibility for those seals. The kit of seals in the bottom part of this image is 04331-52520 (Gasket kit, transaxle overhaul, MTM)

Now I just have to figure out how to drive that seal in with out damaging it. The lip sticking out of it makes it impossible with my standard seal drivers.

Yeah, I just chucked my largest seal driver up on the lathe and cut down the center to clear the flange

That's interesting. That part number shows in the EPC as only being for the Scion xB.

Hmm... Well we found it on the epc. Took a lot of digging though and it is most certainly the right part. It matches up exactly with what I pulled.

OK, looks can be deceiving. I am inclined to believe that you are correct and that part number is for an Xb as it is at least half an inch too small in diameter.

Does this look correct for the measurements? Shaft Size: 1.378 in. (35 mm.) Housing Bore: 2.48 in. (63 mm.) Outside Diameter: 2.491 in. (63.28 mm.) Width: 0.394 in. (10 mm.)

Yeah, no kidding. I was forced to put the old seal back in as I have to have the car back on the road. I'm just hoping it doesn't leak too bad as putting that old seal back in is probably the worst option. On another note I do have to say that royal purple gear oil is like night and day compared to the cheap stuff.

Well after another trip to the dealer we shall see what we receive tomorrow. Hopefully it is the right part as I about at my wits end with this seal but now I don't have a choice but to replace it. Stupid car repairs are never as simple as they should be.

The part number you need is 90311-34042 for the left and 90311-34023 for the right Ishino makes it, it should be available at any local parts store not just the dealer. If you still cant get it let me know I have 5 in stock they are about 5 dollars each. (happen to work at a transmission shop)

That may be it but I am very hesitant to say for sure as the on for the xb looks identical but just a little smaller than the yaris one

As for diy its not too terribly difficult but a couple of specialty tools are nice and one may be absolutely necessary. A slide hammer is one of the tools that makes the job a lot easier for both removing the axle and removing the seal. The tool that I found I couldn't do the job without was a ball joint seperator such as this http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...tor-99849.html. A simple pickle fork will only destroy the boot and there is not enough clearance between the ball joint and axle for anything else. I tried a similar tool to the harbor freight that I found at a parts store but it wouldn't fit between the bolt and axle. |
