Questions about replacing shocks and struts on a 2007 3 door Yaris - Toyota Yaris Forums

Hey,

This is Cassie. I am new to this site and to Houston (Texas). I own a Toyota Yaris, 3 door, 2007 model with approximately 80,000 miles.

I believe I need to replace the shocks and struts on my vehicle and need your advice.

I went to the nearby Toyota service center and they quoted me ~$1300 for just the front shocks and struts and alignment. In comparison, a local shop, whom my friend has used, and has average reviews of, quoted ~1000 for all four wheels. I noticed that most of the cost is for labor.

How much should such a service cost? And is it something I should go to the Toyota service center for? Or is any reputed mechanic/service center good?

Any advice on how to approach is welcome...I am an auto amateur.

Also...any recommendations for any service center/mechanic in Houston is welcome...preferably near Spring or Westheimer/Beltway

a friend's garage quoted me 580$ for 4 KYB shocks. You should be able to change all that in about 1.5hours, so probably you'd get quoted 2hrs of labour + alignement. So around 800-1000$ depending where you go. OEM parts cost more too.

Here are some pictures of a tire. Does this seem in line with what one would expect due to worn out shocks/struts?

Do you drive mostly within city limits and snag a lot of those just about unavoidable potholes (understandable) ?

I don't drive on surface streets within city limits that often, and I'm still on my first OEM shocks and struts.

I think Ripley's will give you an honest opinion. I've gone to the one on Rayford Rd near I-45 in the Montgomery County part of Spring.
They also have another location (the original) on the NW corner of FM 1960 and Kuykendahl.

looks like it has tons of positive camber, to make that kind of tire wear.

2.5 hrs is right plus parts but u can save by doing rear at home just have them do front and alignment ..

Can you take pictures of the full tread width? It may be that you only need new tires and an alignment

just looks like you have some serious alignment problems with being toed in.

If your shocks/strusts were bad, it would have a wacky wear on the thread.. like the circled one.
