Throttle Body Swap Fail, help needed

Hey guys,

I have a 1300cc 2NZ-FE with a tiny 3 bolt throttle body. I recently attempted to upgrade it to a 51mm TB from a 1.8 7AFE corolla engine.

http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51176

Unfortunately it didn't fit, the vacuum point didn't line up and the stock bolts are too short .

My next attempt to upgrade the throttle body relies on one you awesome fellas on the forums.

The stock US Yaris intake manifold uses 4 bolt throttle bodies, it should also mount directly to my engine.

I would like to know if anyone would be willing to sell me the stock intake manifold.

It would be greatly appreciated.

-Justin

Hey Justin,

Sorry, man...
My CNC engineer had told me two months for a throttle body adaptor, but now he isn't available to do any of my tooter stuff. He's totally occupied working on really big projects now so I'm out of luck.

That's a better idea just to get a stock intake manifold. It would be way cheaper than an adaptor.

Its all good Greg, trial and error is key to moving forward.

The hardest part will be finding a used manifold, I haven't seen any on eBay.

So as per your other thread, we said the 1ZZ throttle body works and you get one from a 7AFE

Um, why?

Just like the 1NZ went from cable to wires, as so did the 1ZZ.

I might be able to get my hands on a stock intake manifold for you. I had an extra and a friend was going to use it on his XB, but he never did. I'll ask him if he still has it.

Also in that same thread, we discussed that my stock throttle body is 3 bolt while a 1zz throttle body is 4 bolt and wouldn't work. The 7AFE trottle body was the largest 3 bolt I could find.

Thanks, it seems I have the 1zz throttle body after all but as suggested in that thread, I'll have to do some modding.

Thanks

Sadly I didn't, got some longer bolts, made the sandwich plate, installed everything and had a massive vacuum leak between the intake manifold and the tb.

I don't know but it seems the 2NZ-FE manifold is way smaller . I don't even think this mod makes sense on the stock manifold as the entry point on the manifold itself is about 35mm .

I'm going to try and source a 1NZ intake manifold or port out the stock one I have.

Trial and error is necessary, hopefully I'm helping someone who might attempt this as well

There are always challenges to adapting things to an unintended purpose. A 2NZ FE intake manifold is on ebay for $118. It includes free domestic shipping so that would offset some of the cost to ship where you are.

I reached a similar conclusion about the 1ZZ throttle body on the Blitz supercharger: the hole in the mounting face on the intake tube was the diameter of the stock TB, so I had to make a custom adapter that used the larger gasket, then connect the adapter with silicone couplers to a different version of the Blitz intake tube. Even if the original Blitz intake tube wouldn't have leaked, there would be very little HP gain because of the small tube inner diameter.

It took almost a year (on the calendar) to get all of the custom parts purchased and fabricated, and three separate tries to machine the adapter. I could repeat the process in about a week if I needed to, but the first attempt always takes me a long time. The next change will be to find and remove the new bottleneck, but that's probably going to require custom fabrication of cast or welded parts.
