Used Oil Analysis - Yaris '08 144,000km
Just received this from Blackstone last night. 144,000km on the engine and just under 10k km on the oil. I will be trying 13,000km next oil change. This oil analysis was done on oil that had my intake on the car during the oil use. I do a handful of redline pulls a week, sometimes low shift and baby the car and sometimes shift higher in the rev range. I have an oil catch can and any other mods are in my signature.
Most of my driving is highway (~75-85%) but that also means some is slow traffic barely moving (typical GTA traffic), majority is anywhere from 80km/h up to 135km/h. As of right now I have zero oil loss between 10,000km change intervals. Figured I'd post this here as an FYI. I used to run 5w30 Motomaster Forumal synthetic (Canadian Tire brand made by Shell. About 2 oil changes ago I switched to Mobil 1 due to them making a 0w30 and it's much easier start up throughout the winter months. It goes on sale for a good price a few times a year at Canadian Tire so I just stock up. I used a generic MotoMaster oil filter and change it everytime I change my oil. I stay away from fram filters except for when their synthetic ones go on sale (I have on on the car now)

Don't start another thread like the millions already on the internet. This is here for others reference purpose.
I know there is little wear because I did the UOA. I'm not sure if you think UOA's are only beneficial when an engine is excessively wearing and running terribly, but to me that becomes too late and a waste of an engine. I wanted to get an idea of how my oil is holding up since I'm running longer OCI's and I achieved just that

newer toyotas go for 10,000 miles/12 months on synthetic oils and that's what i'm doing in my kid's yaris too. i personally gave up on UOA because never saw abnormal ones in a toyota and yes i did a few before i learned it's a waste of time and money. good luck to you.

No problems with your 1.5 . Hope you get many more years from it . Those are very good numbers . Keep using the Mobil1 0w-30 . Could post this at www.bobistheoilguy.com ( click on Oil Forums ) and place under Used Oil Analysis - Gasoline . Very informative site . Thanks for the post .

Thanks for posting. I've done one to see what interval I should be doing on my car which sees a lot of autoX as well as short-trip daily driving, so it's nice to see the more "normal" readings. Do you really top-up 4qts of oil in per 10k?

I'll definitely post this on bitog for reference.
Cory: what oci was recommended for you w/ the way you autox your yaris? I don't top up at all between oil changes. I measure the oil going in, check to see if it's at the top of the full line on the dipstick and that's it. It doesn't drop at all between oil changes.

I would have about 4 to 5 ounces of oil left from the 4 quarts for the O.C.. that always included a new Toyota filter filled with fresh oil before install . I think that soaked up about 9 ounces of oil .

Yup, I always fill the oil filter and let it absorb as much as possible before I install it.

Under "Make up oil added" it says 4qts, which is why I asked.
I was doing 5k intervals because I can hear the valve train get louder at 4500km (meaning the oil has lost some viscosity). My wear levels were basically what yours were, with some copper and titanium showing (acceptable levels). They recommended trying 8K, which I have been doing. I will test again next oil change at 8K, and then probably stop testing and keep doing 8K intervals. Non-synth oil btw. |

Ya, not sure why it says that, definitely a typo.
Hmm 8,000km on Dino oil w/ autox use is pretty good.
