If you put a rubber seal on the car as per photo's or something similar
you will have no water problems at all , and the only thing the AFE intake does to the
car is make it way better , and sounds pretty cool under hard excelleration.
there goes my fuel economy

Where did you get the moulding material to seal your bonnet? I am still getting water on my aFe filter when the car goes through the automatic car wash. She even threw a CEL about the MAF. I cleared it with the ScanGauge and the CEL did not come back. I will probably only seal the area near the intake.

you use the automatic car wash? I can't do that any more -- too low.

you could always make a lid for those rainy days or the carwash.

The rubber seal is made by a local company in NZ and is shipped through out the world it cost's $14.00NZ per metre ($8.55US)you require 2 metre's for the job.
It has an adheasive backing similar too 3m and sticks like shit to a blanket,
providing the area is clean.
there are other options out there as well as seen on here in Yaris world ,
but if anyone wants this product i am more than happy to send it to you , but would be best if 3 or 4 people local to each other bought it as then only one package would need to be sent
Postage if anyone was interested would start at $9.00US for 2mtr's
$15.00US 4MTR's
$20.00US 6MTR's
$24.00US 8MTR'S
Hope this helps you all .

To all the people worried about the filter getting wet. I have had the AFE for a while and driven my car down the freeway in pouring rain with out sealing my hood. Popped the hood and not a drop of water on the filter. The auto car wash probably sprays hard enough that water sneaks under the cracks in the hood.

Is not compatible, as the pipe diameter and the MAF housing are different.

However, there is a possible option from AFE that would work on the 1.8.

We will be testing one in a couple of weeks to verify it fit correctly.

There is some info about it on the TS subforum

Just an update ,now that i have a Scanguage installed as well , thought
i would try to seal the AFE to drop intake tempater , by putting a higher rubber seal
closing the gap betwen the top of the AFE box and bonnet.
got about a 2-3 degrees drop in intake temp while driveing and appears to stay cooler while sitting at traffic lights.
