I'll let someone comment who actually has the TRD... but $630 sure seems like a lot of cash for a muffler!

Your biggest issue is the insane install fee. You can pick up any of the mainline mufflers (TRD, Tanabe Medallion, etc) for around 300 US if that is what you are looking for and I would think find a much better install price than the dealer.

I have the TRD exhaust.
Paid $305USD and installed it myself in little over 30min.
It's only two spring loaded bolts, no welding.

Got it from Conicelli Toyota of Springfield PA via the net.
You can find it on Ebay too.
I generates a LOT more noise into the pass cabin and can take some time to get used to. I put some FatMat in the trunk well and it's surrounding areas to help quell the sound of it....
It uses a third included muffler mount too.

I've got the TRD system....put it on myself in my garage...not hard to install like was mention earlier just couple of bolts, add the provided extra hanger. I personally LOVE it gives the car a real nice growl! the instructions are really good.

I cut my muffler off and added a resonating exhaust tip with 2" piping.... it sounds BEAST lol. It has a very low growl to it. It definitely sounds fast, too bad it isn't :(

I mean I cut the muffler off about an inch before the pipe went into the muffler. Then I had a shop weld on a two inch wide, about 2 feet long pipe, and then had them weld on a resonating exhaust tip.

And yes and no, its weight and its that the car is naturally slow
