Where The Wild Things Are...

I love it when I get a chance to relive a part of my childhood through mediums different than I originally had experienced.

I don't know if many of you will get this or feel the same way I do too, but I can't wait to see this film.

I have been giddy to see it since I first heard they were making a movie of it about a year ago.

Moving my sick grandpa into my house last weekend I stumbled across my original copy of the book, the one my mom used to read to me when I was little EVERY NIGHT. Made me so happy and just that much more excited for the film!

I CANT WAIT!!!! :)

Yup, one of my favorite books as a little kid, and spike jonze is one of my favorite directors. He did a lot of stuff with bjork, beastie boys, fatboy slim(the weapon of choice video with christopher walken), weezer, and he did a lot of work, and actually some of the pranks too on Jackass.

I'm hoping to be blown away by the movie. They are playing it at the local IMAX.

yeah i liked it. to each their own of course. like i said in a previous post i was not familiar with the book, like so many others, so i didn't go to the movies with any expectations or high hopes. just took it as it was. plus i loved the music which goes a long way with me.

which i can totally understand that. hollywood has turned many things i hold in high regard into complete garbage. xmen, comanche moon, dead man's walk, the beach, spiderman... really the list could go on and on. so i can see where they are coming from.

on the other hand, however, from my understanding the book is all of like 5 lines so you have to wonder where people expected the substance of the movie to come from.

leo's character isn't american he's british. that annoys me a lot because it illustrates just how egocentric americans are. cuz obviously no one wants to see a movie about a british guy right? such a pointless change is all. he never gets with sal or the french chick. so none of that drama ever even takes place. hmmm trying to think what else... i know the guy that gets attacked by the shark doesn't get exiled like he does in the movie but i don't remember exactly what happens with him cuz it's been like 8 or 9 years since i read the book. damn i can't think of anything else... it's sitting on my book shelf right now maybe i'll read it again.

I thought the movie was amazing.

Maurice Sendak had been asked dozens and dozens of times about a film but didnt consider it until Jonze came along.

Sendak himself has said that Jonze took absolutely nothing from his book...only enhanced it with his creative vision, and I agree 100%

The cinematography, soundtrack, set, costumes and editing alone make this film great to me, but adapting an ultra short childrens book into a full length film ABOUT CHILDHOOD is downright impressive.

From what I've read the reviews are pretty good... Idk what reviews you guys are reading...?

I've seen some of those quick movie reviews on the news, and they all say it's worth it to see the movie. Now I loved the book as a kid as well, but now I am an elementary school librarian, so I really have no choice!!!

I'll prolly go see it next week. :-)

~__~ I purposely avoided this movie. It gave me a month of anguish at work, we partnered with them.
