This is the Burj Khalifa or the Burj Dubai, world's tallest building.

quoting From wikipedia:
Although Dubai's economy was built on the back of the oil industry, revenues from oil and natural gas currently account for less than 6% of the emirate's revenues. Dubai's oil reserves have diminished significantly and are expected to be exhausted in 20 years. end quote. BTW, it is not the ARABS has so much money. It is some Arabs have so much money. Same as some Europeans have so much money or some africans have so much money, etc. When oil prices go up internationally, they go up here as well (middle east/ arab countries). but when they drop, they DON"T drop here. When oil was at 140/barrel I was paying $23/20 liters. when it dropped to 65/Barrel I was still paying $22/20 liters. Now I know my country doesn't produce oil, but still I believe I should be paying around 10. |

i was there :D :D :D ... seriously the fireworks was simply amazing, breath taking...
oh n btw yes we do have crazy rich arabs here. i may be crazy too. but ppl, really. i dont get it y do we get negative thoughts from ppl from other part of the world? wen we have the world's tallest building, tallest hotel n the only 7 star hotel. islands in the shape of a palm tree n the whole map of the world? its just nice that we're trying hard to be known in the world that who we are. yes middle easterns did tend to have bad reputation all over the world coz of the media. but we want ppl to know we're not ppl from the third world country. we have peace here n love peace. there is hardly any crime in duba, ppl are so nice n friendly. everyone loves the president n the prime minister here. and all the items we have for sale are duty free.. there is no such thing as tax system here... there is high security here... ok i admit we have oil here n it may run out soon, but by building all this amazing structures and by building a very modern city we expect tourism... thats how we may be earning from in the future. coz if oil runs out, its not gonna be the end of the world. we have to make dubai attractive now so that it can live on.. all ppl are warmly welcomed to dubai :D cheers |

well, lets not bring religion into this matter, after all, all the religions want peace. trust me, the media has given our religion a bad name. but what u may have heard about islam is possibly not true. every1 is free to follow any religion they want. and the ppl living here in dubai follow any religion they like :)
yes dubai maybe in a big debt, but the captial "Abu Dhabi" of United Arab Emirates are there for the rescue, coz the capital is really really really loaded :P well lets hope for the best n hope that economy becomes stable everywhere in the world :) amen cheers :D |

Falling oil reserves are why they are making their country into a hot-spot for the rich/vacationing. And I hope to visit someday, maybe even buy an artificial Island(yes I'm dreaming).

This looks like a fantastic building although it would probably scare me to be up that high.
I went up to the Seattle needle and that was a little weird with all the vibrations and the wind, you think you're moving (you probably are). I went up the Twin Towers in Manhattan (both) and the Empire State Building. That was high enough for me :) The fireworks looks incredible on my little screen, so I wonder what it was really like in person. I've seen some photographs of achitectural wonders in Dubai, especially that hotel with incredible views, built for kings and queens, no doubt. How do people come up with such incredible ideas and then manage to build them, too? I only wish I could afford to see these wonders in person. Alas, it's all very far and probably very expensive. Good thing we can see some online :) |

Incredible building. I can now see why I'm paying almost $3/gal...

The Arabs really have adopted all the wests bad habits. I think they are trying to out debt the USA, good luck with that one.
On another note, why are phallic symbols always so popular?
