A stick shift without a tach?

Ok, so maybe the first stick I ever used was a three on the column. Never needed a tach before but somehow it didn't occur to me that my new 08 didn't have one. Must be why I got the deal on it. Anyhow, what is that thing that clips to the front door post that has gauges attached to it? I could just hook up a tach but I'd like it to be part of the style of the car, not something that looks bolted on. I'd also like some suggestions on tachometers if possible.

How to put one in:
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=662

And I have seen a few Yarii with small tachs layed into the dash behind the steering wheel.

Why do you need a tach? Just listen to the engine revs before shifts, like you did with your previous 3-speed

+1

My last cars was a fast revving Contour SVT and a modded GTO and I never looked at the tach, and never bounced off the rev limiters.

I just like listening to music. Can't hear the engine then. I installed a tach in mine, it's pretty simple.

because a yaris with a few mods will make power to redline....helps to know where that is vs bouncing off the fuel cut

Right....it'll make about as much power as my John Deer lawn tractor. This car doesn't need a tach...it's a commuter.

true, but if you listen to the engine/exhaust note you'll know when that is coming up. in first gear my trd muffler opens up nicely around 5500 rpm and i know to shift shortly thereafter or i bounce off the rev limiter......

heads up display FTMFW!!!

i've always had a tach in the xA but before i had exhaust on it i did hit the rev limiter now and then simply because i couldn't HEAR ANYTHING lol.. i came from a mildly loud 1ZZFE so the hampsterwheel was easy to over-rev

Sorry....but I mean, let's be realistic. This car doesn't have any power.

My John Deere lawn tractor has 25% of the HP this car has stock.

sorry if it seems that way. I am just sharing my thoughts and opinions man. That is what a forum or enthusiast site is about. I am enthusiastic btw...I love my Yaris. I mean, I did buy one! I am also realistic about it...I don't know, maybe I am just used to driving fast cars or something but 100HP doesn't get me excited.
