Verizon Android Phone (Droid)

If there is anyone who is following this, Verizon is actually targeting Apple directly, claiming that their newest 3GS phone is far inferior to the Verizon Droid that is being released soon. In just over 8 days now.

Who here is waiting for it, and actually is considering buying it?
I know I would be, pending I didnt already have a 1.5 year contract left with Tmobile. Ill just wait till they unlock it and then buy it.

Oh, what? I heard the iPhone might be available for Verizon customers starting next year.

Down with Iphones...

Nothing personal, but Apple is slipping, they are focused too heavily on overpopulating the market with the phone, rather than develop for it. Which is why Android phones are becoming popular very fast. Almost every provider has a high tech phone running Adroid market. (Tmobile has 2, soon 3) (Sprint has a couple) (Verizon is releasing its own "Iphone Killer") Even ATT is supposed to have one soon enough, although they deny the claims.

Its very possible that Adroid based platforms could become the new Blackberry of the Phone world.

Or I heard it from somewhere: Best scales down the current Phone platform market
Android/Google = Apple
Apple = Microsoft

Too much isnt always a good thing, its how you refine it.

Seems that actual phone users who want content and hardware are falling in love with the Google releases, and Iphone users are just enjoying what they have, but envy some of the great Android apps and function.

Droid will be faster, support more, and even by next year support FLASH on websites.

While iPhone either by Apple, or mostly AT&T is denied to do almost everything.

This is why I jailbroke my iPhone and my gf's iPhone, because I do not care for these two companies BS.

Actually all Android phones should support Flash by the end of this year, seeing Eclair is supposed to be released Late November, and all members should recieve it by Christmas, or at least that was the last updated release date.

I had Verizon, and then I got T-Mobile. So now I have 2 phones. I was thinking of switching to T-Mobile all the way once my VZN contract runs out, but after seeing the VZN Droid I think I'll stay with VZN. It already has the best coverage, and if you add this new phone to it, it's game over

...you'd have to switch to an Everything Data plan.

If that's not the issue, Sprint has the HTC Hero currently and the Samsung Moment in just another week or so I believe.

Yeah, the Touch does suck balls. You'd get along really well with the Hero.

On screen keyboard is thousand times better on the Hero in comparison to the Touch.

Yeah, it would appear that's not the case.

http://leoville.com/2009/10

See Leo's twiter update of October 25.
I heard the guy's tech show on Sunday. He went extensively on how Verizon wouldn't be coming out with that kind of ad if they were getting the iPhone anytime soon.

OP: I'll consider the android phone. I like the iPhone just fine but I think the plans $$ sucks. I was looking at the BlackBerry, but now that all these phones are coming out, I'm still considering my options. (I don't have a contract with any carrier right now, just the way I like it )

US cell phone users really need to band together to get out from under the thumb of carriers.

Our cell phone market sucks.

Would you folks pay full price for a phone to get true freedom of choice and no carrier controlled apps and features?

Well, that would be no different than buying your own computer and picking which ISP you want to use, so I guess the answer is yes, if I liked the phone enough and didn't have to compromise on features and of course, depending on the price.

(i'll check out your CNet link tonight)

i used the Droid today at work (verizon :/) and it runs well. I dont know about it being an iphone killer, since i feel its pretty different from the iphone in feel and use. also I suggest holding on til lthe HTC droid is out, imo, the Motorola droid build quality is meh, and it freezes alot. the HTC was rock solid all around, and i prefer it over the motorola...even when the HTC has no keyboard.

HTC is building hella nice devices...They also are the best builder of touch keyboards so far that are not Apple related. So If they are making a Droid for HTC, I would wait too.

Only thing the HTC Dream (Tmobile G1) lacks is internal memory, its space is so easy to fill...Should have the option to move to SD card, but even then that proposes problems if you remove the SD you lose your apps.

I've been following the commercials..very cool. I'm going to wait for reviews of this phone to come out first....every damn touch phone gets hyped nowadays...

I'm w/ Verizon, except i'm not paying retail price for the phone :(
Had a Omnia, i did a firmware update and it went black, its a brick now....so i'm skeptical of new touch phones...

I'll keep an eye out for this contender.
