Unhappy attempted break in

Yeah, so I went to get into my car before work this morning and noticed glass and broken bits next to my car. Apparently someone tried break in and get my sunscreen and my notebook because that's all I have in there. Since I don't have power windows or locks, they weren't able to get the door open that way and couldn't reach the manual lock.

Anyway here are some pictures. I'm pretty bummed out but I'm glad it's just a window and not the whole car missing.

Ugh that sucks.

Is insurance going to cover the damage?

Cr@p! Some people just don't get it. Why break into the cheapest (almost) car out there - the expensive ones are bound to have better pickings

I called and made a claim and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I sure hope they cover it.

Same thing happened to my car... except it was done in the back window, the smaller one on the sedan
and I was parked close to a Lexus, BMW, and Porsche

The only thing I lost is the Micro Image sticker, thankfully!

Depending on what your deductable is, you might be paying for the window yourself.

i wonder why they won't take down the big window instead.

to OP: Yarii with power locks would not have unlocked by pressing the button. Security feature Toyota put to disable the unlock button once the door is closed.

the window is 50 bucks at the dealer and you could probably install it yourself. Probably would be cheaper to fix it on your own than go with insurance and pay the deductible. If the weather stripping is toast, its 25 - not sure about the plastic trim

Your insurance most likely wont pay for it. It happened to me before with the xA. Bit instead of a small window being broken, it was my entire front windshield. Insurance didn't cover it because the damage was not over $500. So, i ended up paying it myself.

Thanks guys. Talked to insurance today and they filed it as property damage, which I seem to be covered pretty well for so I hope everything works out ok as I really can't afford to pay for it myself right now. Going to get estimate tomorrow after work, and insurance said they'd send a check as soon as I got that done, so we'll see.

To help clarify for the general public, two kinds of insurance generally come into play. One is collison like when you have a wreck, an the other is usually called comprehensive and that is when something happens to your car like theft, weather damage, or vandalism.

I've had that happen before. The only thing I had visible in my car was a banana. They broke out the window (not the small one) to steal it, but they didn't take anything else from car. Now I leave nothing in view--not even a piece of paper or pen.
